This book is dedicated to my family, my friends Anna, Brittany, Aurise, Juliette, Delaine and Karina R., and my teacher Mrs. Mattson who helped me with making this book.
On a cold white sheet of ice in the Arctic, a fresh fall breeze fills the morning air. Mother Polar Bear has just awakened from her deep sleep. Mother Polar Bear lifts her eyelids. The sun peeks up from behind the icy glacier. The Arctic wind blows the water, making waves that wash over the rocks.
On the light blue ice near the ocean, Mother Polar Bear hunts for ringed seals for her cubs. Mother Polar Bear finds a seal with her terrific eyesight. She tears the seal up with her very sharp teeth. The sun shimmers on the rippling waves. Suddenly, she hears something with her keen sense of hearing. She has a really bad feeling.
Just then, Orca pops out of the water! It tries to eat Mother Polar Bear! Before Orca can reach her, Mother Polar Bear quickly drops her prey and lunges on to a piece of ice where her cubs are hiding in the snow. She is safe! Under water, a nearby fish sees all of the splashing chaos! It swims away as fast as it can to get out of Orca’s sight.
Luckily, Orca cannot jump up onto the ice. Mother Polar Bear is safe! Her cubs peek out from behind the snow bank to see if Orca is gone. They are worried about Mother Polar Bear. They run to find her. All of that chaos makes Mother Polar Bear tired. The sky is turning dark and Orca goes to its home under water. The full moon glitters on the waves. Snow begins to fall and lands softly on the ice. It is time to go to sleep.
