SEcUrITy ALErT!Do You Overlook & Take For Granted Your Security?

In light of the recent break-in’s, assaults, thefts, etc., that have occurred in our surrounding neighborhoods (gated & non-gated), the Lakewood Grove HOA Board wants to remind everyone to be pro-active with your own security.

Security is often overlooked and taken for granted. Unfortunately, occassionally we all need a reminder that security is the responsibility of each of us. Off and on, we have seen some vehicle burglaries, theft of personal items, home burglaries, and vandalism to common/personal area property. Recently, there have also been reported sexual assaults in the nearby subdivision Longwood. http://www.click2houston.com/news/22710918/detail.html

While Lakewood Grove has patrol services that are provided by the Constable District 4 officers we still need to be pro-active and take common sense precautions. The patrols are just one part of a bigger response to security here in Lakewood Grove. The biggest part comes from you, the residents. From the cases we know of thieves have been burglarizing cars that are unlocked only and driveways that are not lit up well. As for the sexual assault, the perpetrator went through an unlocked garage window and through an unlocked door to the home from the garage.

As a resident, you need to think about security and discuss it with your family. Has ease and habit left us in a position to be vulnerable to poor security? Here are some basic ideas: Always lock your house and garage. Don’t forget to close and lock your windows also. Set your house alarm. Close the garage at night and when you are away. Lock your vehicle(s) and do not leave valuables in plain sight. If you have a car alarm, set it. If you have a dark driveway, leave an outside light on. Talk to your children about leaving that bike out in the yard or driveway all night or toys that are just laying in the open. Create and keep handy a list of emergency phone numbers and emergency contacts.

If you see suspicious activity, get as much information as you can safely get, things like: a license number, make/model/color of vehicle, place of residence, direction of travel, do you know the person? Call law enforcement, and advise your HOA Board and above all, do not confront the person(s). Lakewood Grove is an active community, look out for your neighbor and your neighbor will look out for you! Think about security; discuss it with your family and your friends often. Be safe and enjoy living in Lakewood Grove.

cONSTAbLE’S cOrNErBy Sergeant James Rouse

The winter months are coming to an end and soon the weather will be more admirable for burglars. We usually have an increase in motor vehicle and home burglaries during this time.

Most vehicle burglaries occur during the night and can be avoided by simply locking your car door. Typical items stolen from vehicles: GPS, IPOD, Laptop computers, electronic games, tools and guns. If you do not want items stolen from your vehicle, make sure nothing is left inside to be stolen. Additionally, do not leave pressure washers, welders or any other tools in the bed of a truck.

Home burglaries are common but occur mostly during the daytime when no one is home and your neighbors are at work. Remember to set your home alarm, lock your door, windows and close your blinds when your home is left unattended. Most people store their valuables in their master bedroom; burglars know this and usually head straight for the master bedroom and leave the rest of the home untouched. I suggest you keep your valuables in a place that is not so common for the criminal mind.

Also, have someone check on your home while you are away for any extended period of time. It is a good idea to have that designated person pick up any newspaper or flyers left on your lawn or front

door otherwise your home is an easy target to get burglarized. If you become a victim of a burglary, providing serial numbers to

your property is very important, they can be added to our NCIC/TCIC system as “stolen” and MAY be recovered.

Take pictures of any other valuables such as jewelry, painting or family heirlooms for identification and insurance purposes. Have this information ready for the police, without serial numbers or pictures the chances of recovering your property are slim.

Contact the police anytime you see suspicious activity.Harris County Constable Pct 4 281-376-3472 or 911

Keep our Neighborhood CleanLitter is becoming a real problem in our neighborhood. Let

your children know to “Give a hoot and don’t pollute.” Lakewood Grove belongs to all of us. Let’s keep it clean. Courteous neighbors don’t allow their pets to soil their neighbor’s yard. Please pick up after yourselves and your pets. Recycle when possible. Let’s keep our little corner of the world BEAUTIFUL!

A Whole New Way Too LivePart 1

1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Almost 2000 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. Team Tiara is a non-profit foundation dedicated to raising money to fund research and education for this devastating disease as well as outreach services to those affected by it. Team Tiara started 5 years ago walking in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day. Each member has raised $2300.00 every year to walk 60 miles in three days, sleep in pink tents and shower in converted semi-trucks. This group of men and women are now at a turning point and are raising money to provide real-time assistance to those whose lives have been touched by breast cancer. One way they will be able to do this is to provide mammograms for those without health insurance so they do not have to wait what could be months to get their lump checked at the free clinics. This could mean the difference between a Stage 1 diagnosis and a Stage 4 diagnosis. They will also be able to fund expenses such as babysitting for young children during doctor’s appointments and treatments, travel accommodations or any needs these families have.

Team Tiara has been featured on Chanel 2 News and will be featured in many other publications throughout the year recruiting new members, participating in many fundraisers that will range from car washes, Southern Living Parties, Cookbook and Calendar Sales to their big event in October – Team Tiara Gala: A Whole New Way Too Live! Follow them on their journey by going to www.teamtiara.net or you can join them on their journey and be a part of this new way to live.
