Principal & Vice-Principal’s Message
Christmas Concert *****NEW INFORMATION*****
Lakeview’s Christmas concert is on Thursday, December 21st at Carpenter
High School.
Due to the overwhelming attendance we experience each year, Kindergarten
students, Grade 1, and Choir will start at 1:15 p.m.
When the kindergarten and grade 1 students are finished, we will have a 5-10
minute intermission and then Choir and the Grade 2 students, including the
grade 2s from Miss King’s room and all Mme. Guenther’s students (1/2G) will
perform at 2:00 p.m.
During our intermission, those who are not able to stay will have time to leave
to return back to work. Grade 2 parents and Mme. Guenther’s parents will then find
a place to sit and enjoy the Choir and the next performance.
Bussing to and from Carpenter High will be provided during the day for all K-2
students and those in Choir.
If it is not your child’s Kindergarten day, please have him/her at Carpenter at
1:00. We will meet the students in the commons area. Once your child is done per-
forming, please meet him/her in the commons area as classroom teachers need to
return back to school.
The Grade 3s, including the grade 3s from Miss King’s room, Grade 4 students,
all Mme. Landry’s students (3/4L), Choir and Gr. 4 Dance Club will perform in
the evening at 6:30 p.m. The evening performers are expected to be at Carpenter
High School at 6:15 p.m.
There will be a silver collection at the door for both performances.
Thanks to Studio505, a DVD Keepsake is also available this year for $15.00. An
order form is attached to the newsletter.
Please enjoy our concerts and we look forward to receiving feedback regarding the
organization of the afternoon performance.
Merry Christmas!

Turkey Donations
Thank you to Brander Properties for donating 3
turkeys and 3 hams. Also, thanks to the Gutek, McLaughlan, Sadler and
Brander families for donating turkeys for our Friendship Feast. As well,
thanks to the Beck family who donated $20 to our Friendship Feast and to the
Spencer and Groenewegen families for the ham donations.
When reading with a beginner reader, it’s important to do the following:
Give them time to read. Reading is a skill, and like many other skills, it takes time to develop. A beginner reader should spend 20 minutes a day reading to or with someone. The books read during this time should be relatively easy and at their reading level.
Let them reread the same books. Rereading the same words over and over again helps build fluency. Overtime, you’ll notice that your child will stop less often to figure out unknown words.
Take turns reading. By listening to your fluent reading, your child will hear what good readers sound like. After you have read a short passage, ask your child to reread the same passage. This provides a chance for him/her to practice read-ing with expression.
Your child has been taught specific strategies to use when he/she is reading. Ask your child to explain the strategies he/she is using at school.
Visit www.readingrockets.org for more information on how you can launch
your child into a bright future through reading.
OurSchool Parent Survey Just a reminder regarding the letter sent home in November explaining OurSchool Parent Survey:
Lakeview Elementary will be participating in an online school survey for parents and guardi-ans called the OurSCHOOL Parent Survey. We invite you to review the information below, and complete the survey using the login information provided. The OurSCHOOL Parent Survey gives you the chance to provide your feedback anony-mously into school initiatives. It ’s voluntary, but we encourage you to participate, so we get a better understanding how you feel the school supports learning, positive behaviour and promotes a safe and inclusive environment. The survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete and must be completed in one sit-ting. For more information about the OurSCHOOL Parent Survey, please visit The Learning Bar Inc.’s website: www.thelearningbar.com. To access the survey, go to www.ourschool.net/686r8
Staples Christmas Card Orders Thanks to all who participated in ordering Christmas cards, cups, puzzles etc… from Sta-ples. We sold approximately $6000.00!! We have not yet heard when the orders will arrive, but will send the orders home with your child as soon as they do. Please watch our Face-book page for updates!
