Fuel presents

EVERYDAY MOMENTSBy Hofesh Shechter

A sound installation for one audience member in a completely dark room.

In 2011, Fuel commissioned a series of podcasts from different artists inspired by their favourite everyday moment, designed to be listened to at a particular time and in a particular place.

Hofesh Shechter’s podcast, designed to be listened to alone, in a dark space, is an invitation to move without inhibition - the way you always wished you could when no one is watching.

Monday 28 September – Friday 2 October

Lakeside Theatre Hut, Square 5 11:00am – 4:00pm

FREE (Pre-booking at venue advised)

THE UNBUILT ROOMBy Seth Kreibel

The Unbuilt Room is a performance-game exploring how places create memories... and how memories create places. Small groups of players explore a verbal maze without leaving their seats in immersive, imagined theatre inspired by choose-your-own-adventure stories and early text-adventure computer games. Performances last 20 minutes. “Kriebel’s words are powerful, conjuring rooms without you even leaving your seat. The timer went and our cries of disappointment were spontaneous and real... This game is absorbing, enlightening and often funny.” Londonist

A gripping and haunting new play about sex, fear, religion and magic, from the BAFTA-winning writer Rebecca Lenkiewicz.

Walkern, 1712. After decades free from witch hunts, Walkern’s cunning woman Jane Wenham is blamed for a tragic death – and charged with witchcraft. A terrifying ordeal begins, as the village is torn between those who want to save her life, and those who claim to want to save her soul.

That’s Amore is a hilarious, fast-paced, passionate and poignant piece of physical theatre which explores the vast world and culture of romantic love: from chance encounters to hidden desires, and emotional extremes to the science of romance, it explores the flesh and philosophy behind what makes our hearts beat faster.

PORTRAIT By Racheal Ofori

A frank and funny look at the trials and tribulations of modern existence, seen through the eyes of a young black woman. Candid and satirical, this one-woman show uses music, poetry and dance to challenge cultural stereotypes, explore identity and role models, and ask the critical question: just how do you navigate today’s world? An exciting debut solo show from writer, performer and rising talent Racheal Ofori inspired by her own experiences.

Supported by Arts Council England and the Royal Victoria Hall Foundation.

A DUET WITHOUT YOU Chloé Déchery

A Duet Without You is a solo performance trying (and inevitably failing) to be a duet.

Re-enacting a pas-de-deux without a partner, Chloé Déchery embarks on a series of fragmented conversations with international artistic collaborators Simone Kenyon, Deborah Pearson and Pedro Inês.

Beyond distance and despite absence, Chloé and her collaborators try to experience what brings us together and what drives us apart.

I, MALVOLIOWritten and performed by Tim Crouch

A charged, hilarious and sometimes unsettling rant from a man adrift in front of a cruel audience. Part abject clown, part theatre-hating disciplinarian, Malvolio asks his audience to explore the pleasure we take in other people’s suffering.

Tim Crouch re-imagines Twelfth Night in this brilliant one-man show that unlocks Shakespeare’s play and tells a timeless story of bullying, prudery and practical jokes. This is a show for anyone who has ever been told off, called a name or fallen in love with the wrong person.

“Immaculate, moving, funny, wise.” **** The Times

PYGMALIONBy George Bernard Shaw Produced by London Contemporary Theatre

Pygmalion is a satirical comedy about a Henry Higgins, a phonetics expert who, as a kind of social experiment, attempts to make a lady out of uneducated flower girl, Eliza Doolittle.

JAYWICK: A NEW VERBATIM PLAY Produced by Ashleigh Wheeler and directed by Hannah Joss

Seeded by greenhouse, a Farnham Maltings initiative

“Jaywick is one of them places where you either make it, or break it. And a lot of people been breaking it round here.”

Join Essex-based writer Dan Murphy and company as they share their new verbatim theatre piece on Jaywick, the Essex seaside town currently rated the most deprived area of Britain. This work-in-progress play, made up entirely of verbatim conversations between Dan and the residents of Jaywick, tells a disquieting story of growing inequality in the UK– but it also reminds us how community spirit and humour can thrive, even in the most difficult of circumstances.
