Traffic Safety:SPEED LIMITS, STOP SIGNS

AND RESPECTThe one set of issues that resonates with most of LOE residents

is the need to improve traffic safety throughout our neighborhood. Specifically, finding ways to curtail speeding and drivers continually running or rolling stop signs.

Many of us go walking around LOE, often with young children or pets – all of whom can make rapid direction changes much faster than you can respond if you are speeding, or running a stop sign. Please think about how little time you save by not observing LOE’s traffic rules. It can’t possibly be more than a few seconds. Think also of the devastating effect of an injury or a death you could cause by trying to save these few seconds.

Speeding: Prior to possibly considering more drastic suggestions that were raised at the November Town Hall meeting (such as implementing speed bumps across LOE’s main arteries), we have asked our Patrol to dedicate more time controlling speeding in LOE with the use of LOE’s radar gun.

Running Stop Signs: This continues to be a huge problem. All of us have witnessed daily drivers “run through” these signs, without even so much as a pause. Please practice this very simple tip: (a) Wheels must stop their movement to have actually stopped the vehicle. Avoid the “bump and go” philosophy and (b) Do a “1 count” – use a simple second (one one thousand) count – while stopped, and then move ahead. Here again, we have asked our Patrol to dedicate more time observing all intersections in LOE.

Respect: Please cooperate if you are stopped by our Patrol Officers and treat them with respect. In the past, unacceptable behavior have included shouting, showing disdain, blatantly failing to stop when signaled, running into a home. The Patrol Officers WORK FOR US and are simply following Board orders to increase safety in the community. We take courtesy and respect very seriously and behaving improperly carries our highest fine.

We encourage you to look at your own driving habits. If you have gotten a bit sloppy with your stops or speeding, please change this behavior before one of our neighbors or visitors gets seriously hurt. Also please speak with your family’s visitors and let them know that LOE is serious about our traffic safety. Below is a schedule of fines for infractions.

Thank you!

LOE Book ClubWe meet the 4th Monday of each month at 7:30 P.M. (unless

we decide to skip a month or change the meeting day). We take turns hosting the meeting and sometimes change the date or book, so please contact [email protected] to get the details for each meeting. Our group has lively discussion (not totally about the books) and we challenge ourselves to read out of our comfort zones. It’s never too late to join us!

February 24 – Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia OwensFor years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley

Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life—until the unthinkable happens.

Thank You For Making Our New Year’s Eve Party Wonderful!

A huge thank you to all our neighbors who made this New Year’s Eve Party such a great success! We were prepared for a busy night, but we were positively surprised to see how many of our families were able to join us to celebrate the New Year.

An enormous thank you to our amazing volunteers: Shel & Isela Saripella, Sharon & Bruce Sealy, Debi & Wayne Gan, Karen & Bob Parker, Anisa Nicholson, Kirby Loid, Kurt Swinnen, Kim Pipkins, Kevin Cook, Friedel Liptay and family, Carol Peters, John Jondle, and Sue & John Strebel. We couldn’t have done it without you.

We want to also thank our neighborhood photographer and his assistant. Dan & Celeste Fritz did an outstanding job providing amazing photos from our photo booth! Your pictures can be obtained by writing Dan an email: [email protected].

And last but not least, a special thank you to Sweetland Cakery for the delicious cupcakes and to Debbe & John Zumberge and Veerle & Kurt for their donations towards the spectacular fireworks event.

“Oh What Fun We Had”Thank you LOE families for joining us for some Holiday cheer.

We enjoyed decorated cookies, hot chocolate, and a special visit from Santa Claus himself. Thank you all that volunteered their time and efforts to make this joyous occasion possible. Also a very warm thank you to TNG for providing cookies, kolaches and hot cocoa! Until next year...... Ho Ho Ho.

Mailbox Beautification Initiative

Thank you to the many residents that have taken the time to improve their mailboxes!

Mailboxes are very visible and should be maintained to complement the front yard landscaping which contributes to the curbside appearance of our homes. Check your mailbox to make sure it sits straight, posts are straight, and is painted with cleaned or painted numbers. These standards were set up by the developer 20 years ago for the benefit of our community.

Please familiarize yourself with the Mailbox Resolution which can be found on the community website at www.lakesoneldridge.nabrnetwork.com,  under the Resources tab and Governing Documents. This document provides detailed specs for standardized LOE mailboxes along with helpful hints on how to repair the most common deficiencies. Mailboxes that are not maintained are considered a deed restriction violation.

Mailbox Deed Restriction Violation letters will begin to go out March 31, 2020.

If you need to replace just your mailbox, you can purchase the Gibraltar mailbox at www.amazon.com and have them delivered to your door!

Gibraltar Mailbox w/flag Model #E1100B00 - $18.50 plus shipping the brass unfinished numbers and Gold paint can be found at Home Depot or Lowes.

You can also purchase all supplies at Perfection Fireplace located at 6742 North Eldridge – Open Mon – Fri 8am – 5pm – they will also install the mailboxes for you for a fee. Contact them with questions at 713-937-4575.

As you can see from the sample pictures below, most of the fixes will be a fairly simple task requiring only a couple hours of each homeowner’s time and very little out of pocket cost for the great majority of homes.

We thank you in advance for your support and active participation.
