LAKE ENGINEERING COMPANY SNUBBER REPLACEMENT SEALS

Replacement seals are available from Lake Engineering Co. for most snubber models. Seals are

available in both ethylene-propylene rubber and fluorocarbon rubber, e.g., Viton®. Fluorocarbon rubber is

recommended for high temperature applications.

This catalog provides detailed information for the more common, standard snubber models. Seals for

non-standard snubber models, e.g., large bore snubbers are also available.

Each snubber model is represented in this catalog in a separate section. Illustrations are included in each

section indicating the installed location of each seal. For most models, a unique seal kit is defined for

each snubber size. However, two kits, one for the cylinder and one for the control valve, are required for

each Grinnell snubber and for each Basic Engineers snubber. The control valve kit for Grinnell snubbers

includes seals for the control valve, reservoir, and associated fittings.

TO ORDER: For seal kits, specify the LEC Kit No. and the material code (EPR for ethylene-propylene;

FKM for Viton). For individual seals, specify the LEC Part No. and the material code

(EPR for ethylene-propylene; FKM for Viton).

HOW TO IDENTIFY GRINNELL SNUBBER MODELS

This catalog describes replacement seals for the Grinnell Figure 200 and Figure 201 snubber models PH-

65, PH-69, PH-72, and PH-74R.

Note: Seals are also available for Grinnell "Configuration A" snubbers.

Various control valve models are used for Grinnell snubbers. These are described in Table 1. Various

hydraulic cylinder models (manufacturers) are also used; these are described in Table 2. W hen ordering

replacement seals for a Grinnell snubber, the snubber valve model, cylinder model, and cylinder bore size

must first be identified.

Each control valve described below is mounted on the snubber using one of the following

three mounting styles:

Style 1: Valve suspended between hydraulic fittings, above the cylinder

Style 2: Valve mounted directly (manifolded) to the cylinder

Style 3: Separate tension and compression valves mounted directly (manifolded)

to either end of the cylinder.

Notes: The cylinder cap is the end block at the opposite end of the cylinder from the piston rod end. The cylinder cap may be either round or square.

The cylinder head is the end block at the piston rod end of the cylinder. The cylinder head may be either round or square.

The cylinder tube is the cylindrically-shaped component comprising the body of the cylinder.

Tie rods are long threaded rods that are used to join the cylinder cap, tube and head for some snubber models. For other models the cylinder tube iswelded, screwed, or bolted directly to the cap or head.

A retainer plate is used on some cylinder models to retain the piston rod bearing and/or rod seal assembly. The retainer plate is located directly in frontof the head; it has the same outside dimensions as the head, but is considerably thinner.
