Today, Greg talks to Keith Brawley, creator of Laguna

guitars, about the new Laguna 924, his music and

latest CD release.

So what kind of guitar turns you on?

Greg: Well, I’ve always been attracted to the offset,

double-cutaway style. And I like a wood that feels good

and responds well, like swamp ash, which really pops.

In designing the 924 with Laguna, what did

you want to achieve?

Greg: Basically, the fundamentals of the guitar were

already in place, and it was great. But I tend to be

a maple neck guy, so I thought, what would

happen if we did this with a maple neck, flat

top, modified headstock and just experiment

with some different pickup configurations?

Were there any long-standing guitar

problems you were looking to solve?

Greg: As aggressive rock progressed and

became more involved with the whammy

bar, then tuning stability became more of

a factor, which is why I wanted a double

locking trem for ultimate stability. This

Laguna here is rock solid. What can I say –

it’s pretty much everything I could ask for

in a guitar.

Tell us about your new CD, Sound Proof.

Greg: It’s really exciting. I’m with a new

band with some up-and-coming guys.

I wanted this to be a fun album, not

over-think things. It turned out

great. It’s a lot more riff based –

fun and relaxed.

en, when you were a 13-year-old blues prodigy, you played at venues like The David Letterman Show and

The Apollo – when did you first pick up a guitar?

Ben: When I was 7, I asked my dad for a guitar for my birthday. So he bought me one, and I instantly fell in love with it. Then I stole all his Stevie Ray Vaughan CD’s and learned all his songs.

And now you’re releasing a CD of your own.

Ben: Yes, it’s called Ben Robinson. It’s one of the most eclectic albums I’ve ever worked on in my life. You can go to www.benrobinson.com to hear it.

What guitars did you use on it?

Ben: For rock, I used my Laguna 524 guitar because of the humbuckers and for the sporting-event whammy style. I also used a Laguna 322 if I needed more of a traditional blues tone. And those two were the only guitars I used.

So what do you like about your Lagunas?

Ben: The fact that it is a simple but effective design. You can do anything with it. More importantly, when you pick up and play a Laguna, it just feels so right in your hands.

So what’s next for Ben?

Ben: Touring with the new record. Just riding this train and finding out where the music takes me.

Through the power of a song, musicians can move the hearts and minds of the people to conserve the Earth’s natural resources for the benefit of all, for all time. We at Laguna Guitars know that trees are a solution to

many of our environmental problems — and that great wood also makes great guitars. It’s our belief that the preservation

of forests is as vital to our planet as it is to our sound. So Laguna has partnered with www.AmericanForests.org to proudly plant one tree for every Laguna guitar we make.
