Nelson Mandela wrote an autobiography Long Walk to Freedom. As a teenager, he met an

this great narrator of historical events in his book.
The author creates a vivid image of Chief Joyi.
He uses adjectives and imagery to describe what he looks like.

Ancient, wise, fearless, caring.
Chief Joyi flings his spear. He squats down at the fire.

Part 4: Writing a book review
No two book reviews look the same. Read this book review that was written by a 13-year-old
girl.
(Start with the title and the name of the
author.)
(Tell something about the story. Use the
present tense. Don’t use any slang.)
(Tell more about your personal
experience of the book.)
(Underline titles of books. Conclude the
review with your honest opinion.)
Now write a book review about the novel you have read. Remember to follow the writing
process: Planning – 1st draft – Proofreading – Editing – Final draft. Your review should have
a word count of 110 – 120.
Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer Artemis Fowl is a criminal mastermind. He tries to force Holly, a fairy-elf, to help him with some personal problems. However, it is not so easy to get Holly on his side. As a 13-year-old reader, I found the different personalities of the characters the best part of the book. Every fairy, pixie, sprite, elf and human has his or her own personality and glitches. Not everyone will identify with Artemis, though. My favourite characters are Holly, the fighting elf; Butler, Artemis’s personal bodyguard; and Mulch, a dwarf with a passion for digging. The story is original, the writing style is gripping and the characters are fascinating. Artemis Fowl is one of the best books I have ever read.
