Welcome 2.

The Lacombe and District Music Festival Association would like to welcome you to our 32nd

Annual Music Festival! It is our hope that students will enjoy performing for and learning from

the fine slate of adjudicators who are taking part in this Festival! The public is invited and

encouraged to attend the performances at various venues as listed in this program.

Admission at each session is by donation, in the basket at the door. Thank you!

Notes for our Participants:

All entrants must be ready to perform 15 minutes before the scheduled performance

time. If you need to warm up or tune up, do so prior to the 15 minutes. The adjudicator

could be ahead of schedule due to cancellations.

Please be sure to bring a published copy of your selection to give to the adjudicator’s

secretary prior to the performance. The first bar of each line in your music scores must

be numbered. Each book should be clearly marked with the class number and

competitor’s name.

You are encouraged to perform your selection from memory. However, if you need a

copy of your selection, it also must be a published copy. PHOTOCOPIES WILL NOT

BE ALLOWED. Failure to comply may result in disqualification.

Each participant will be introducing themselves and the selection they will be

performing.

Festival entrants are responsible for providing their own accompanists.

Please pick up your music/speech selection and adjudication sheet from the

adjudicator’s secretary following the completion of your class, if the same have not

been given to you. Do not approach or speak to the adjudicator.

Marking System: The grades used in marking are as follows:

90% - and over (Gold seal with a red ribbon) - Superior

80% - 84% (Red seal) – Honours

Below 80% (Blue seal) – Merit

A grade of 80% or over must be achieved to receive a First Place Certificate.

There will be no First Place ties.

All contestants will receive a certificate and participation ribbon.

Policy for days on which school is cancelled: If schools are closed due to bad weather

all school groups coming from their school to perform during school hours will be

cancelled. HOWEVER, all solos, duets, ensembles, and community groups will

continue as scheduled. If in doubt call the Festival Office at 403-782-6029.

Notes for our Audience: 3.

Please remember to turn off your cell phones while attending performances.

The use of flash cameras is not permitted. Video recordings may only be done of your

own competitor. Adjudications may not be recorded in any manner.

Please remain seated during performances and adjudications.

Our Festival is a registered charity under Canada Revenue Agency, funded by entry

fees, grants and donations. All our committee members are volunteers and we have

no paid staff. Our entry fees are kept minimal by the generosity of our supporters.

Please be generous with your donations in the admission baskets at the venues.

Donation cheques are tax receiptable.

If you are interested in joining our Festival Committee, contact our committee chairman

Norm Start for more information. We will begin planning for the 2014 Festival at our

April meeting.

If you are interested in joining the volunteers who help during the festival (no

committee commitment necessary) contact our volunteer coordinator Melanie

Ducholke.

Notes about Awards, Scholarships & Provincials:

Awards and scholarships are offered in every discipline, and awarded according to

recommendations by the adjudicators. Thank you to the many individuals and businesses that

sponsor these!

If you have been chosen to be the recipient of an award you will be contacted prior to

the Grand Concert and asked to be in attendance that day.

If you have been selected to perform at the Grand Concert you will be contacted prior

to the Grand Concert to determine if you are able to perform that day.

If you have been recommended to perform at the 2013 Provincial Music Festival you

will be contacted by our Provincial registrar, Cindy Prins. You will need to confirm your
