What would you think if the president of your country changed the Consti-tution every year? It is pretty obvious you would think there is something wrong, considering that the Constitu-tion of a country is the foundation, the principles, and the cornerstone on which a nation is built and as such cannot be changed all the time.
I make this comment that seems to have nothing to do with LACMA be-cause, over the years and so many times, Ive heard statements such as: A Board that presents no new pro-posals to be voted on in the General Assembly is not working properly. My mind-set differs considerably from this statement, and would like to share my opinion with you:
1) In LACMA, the General Assembly routinely votes to approve the re-ports, the next host country for the convention, and the new members of the Board. Besides this routine, the only proposals that are to be voted on by the General Assembly are chang-es in the Statutes of the association. In this sense, it is important to note that the Statutes of LACMA are like the Constitution of a country and if LACMA is a solid organization, built on an intelligent and solid Consti-tution, there should be no need to change the Statutes every year.
2) I have heard so many members say to me that LACMA should keep its spirit, that the association shouldnt be changed, and many other similar statements.
I do believe in this regard that the Board has to work hard to bring ser-vices to the membership, to improve and to innovate (while keeping the spirit!) but all those are actions and ideas that do not have to be voted on. Both the Board and the Secretariat must brainstorm to create such im-provements, work hard to make them happen, and offer them to the mem-bers, for their benefit. Sometimes, of course, a deeper change may be needed, thus requiring the approval of the General Assembly.
In the next two years we will continue the hard work to renovate the train-ing courses, to launch new ones, to educate our membership as much as possible by making use of LACMA News and Info LACMA; to get in-volved and help members that have problems collecting their invoices from other members; to represent the FIDI members of our region and, in short, to offer the best possible services within the framework of the principles of LACMA.
This year we have implemented a new forum to exchange ideas with the Per-manent Commissions of the associa-tion with great success. Now we want to expand this experience to all the membership. By exchanging ideas and listening to all members, we can certainly create more and bring bet-ter results for all. You will notice in the next issue of LACMANews a new space, dedicated to print correspon-dence received from the members. We encourage all of you to write us,
send ideas, and give us your opinion and feedback.
We have a bright future ahead of us. Latin America is in the spotlight and the moment has arrived to seize the opportunity. Let us invest in improv-ing the quality of our companies and face the future ahead of us by train-ing our people! LACMA is here to help you. Dont miss the chance!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Chilean members and LACMA Secretariat for a wonderful convention in Santiago. This con-vention has definitely raised the bar and now we are challenged to do the same, or better, in Curaao....AND WE WILL!!!
FIDIs conference in Lisbon was also an excellent experience, and I am very happy to report that there is a closer cooperation between both organizations, starting with some ac-tions FIDI is studying in order to try to lower the FAIM accreditation cost, as LACMA had been asking for some years now. By working together, try-ing to understand each others needs and listening to ideas and concerns, we will certainly see some positive de-velopment in our industry.

Qu pensara usted si el presidente de su pas cambiara la Constitucin cada ao? Es bastante obvio que pen-sara que algo raro estuviese pasando, considerando el hecho de que la Cons-titucin de un pas es la fundacin, los principios, y la piedra angular sobre la que se erige una nacin, y como tal no puede ser cambiada todo el tiempo.
Hago este comentario, que parece no tener nada que ver con LACMA, por-que a travs de los aos y tantas ve-ces, he escuchado comentarios como: Una Junta que no presenta nuevas propuestas para votacin en la Asam-blea General no est trabajando co-rrectamente. Mi forma de pensar difiere considerablemente de dicha declaracin, y deseo compartir mi opi-nin con ustedes:
1) En LACMA, la Asamblea General vota rutinariamente para aprobar los reportes, el nuevo pas sede de la con-vencin y los nuevos miembros de la Junta. A parte de esta rutina, las ni-cas propuestas sobre las que se emiten votos por la Asamblea General son los cambios a los Estatutos de la Asocia-cin. En este sentido, es importante sealar que los Estatutos de LACMA son como la Constitucin de un pas, y si LACMA es una organizacin slida, construida sobre una Constitucin slida e inteligente, no habra nece-sidad de cambiar los Estatutos cada ao.
2) He escuchado a tantos miembros decir que LACMA debera mantener su espritu, que la asociacin no debe-ra ser cambiada y tantas expresiones similares.
Creo, en este sentido, que la Junta debe trabajar duro para ofrecer servicios a la membresa, para mejorar e innovar (manteniendo el espritu a la vez!), pero todas estas son acciones e ideas que no requieren de votacin. Tanto la Junta como la Secretara deben reali-zar lluvias de ideas para crear dichas mejoras, trabajar duro para hacerlas realidad y ofrecerlas a los miembros para su beneficio. Algunas veces, por supuesto, ser necesario un cambio ms profundo, requiriendo, por ende, de la aprobacin de la Asamblea Ge-neral.
Durante los prximos dos aos con-tinuaremos trabajando arduamente para renovar los seminarios de entre-namiento, lanzar nuevos seminarios,
educar a nuestra membresa lo ms que se pueda haciendo uso de LACMA-News e InfoLACMA; involucrarnos y brindar ayuda a los miembros que ten-gan problemas de cobro de facturas con otros miembros; representar a los miembros de FIDI en nuestra regin y, en resumen, ofrecer los mejores servi-cios posibles dentro del marco de los principios de LACMA.
Este ao, hemos implementado con xito un nuevo foro para el inter-cambio de ideas con las Comisiones Permanentes de la asociacin. Ahora deseamos expandir esta experiencia a toda la membresa. Mediante el inter-cambio de ideas y escuchando a todos los miembros, podremos ciertamente crear ms y producir mejores resulta-dos para todos. En la prxima edicin de LACMANews encontrarn un nue-vo espacio dedicado a la correspon-dencia impresa enviada por los miem-bros. Los motivamos a todos para escribirnos, enviarnos ideas y darnos sus opiniones y sugerencias.
Un brillante futuro nos espera. Latino-amrica est en la mira del mundo y el momento ha llegado para aprovechar la oportunidad. Invirtamos en mejo-rar la calidad de nuestras empresas y dar la cara al futuro que se avecina entrenando a nuestra gente! LACMA est aqu para ayudarles. No se pier-dan la oportunidad!
Deseo aprovechar la oportunidad para agradecer a los miembros de Chile y a la Secretara de LACMA por una ma-ravillosa convencin en Santiago. Esta convencin, en definitiva, ha elevado los estndares, y ahora nos enfrenta-mos al reto de hacerlo igual o mejor en Curaao... Y AS LO HAREMOS!!!
La conferencia de FIDI en Lisboa fue tambin una excelente experiencia y me complazco en anunciarles que existe una cooperacin ms cercana entre las dos organizaciones, inician-do con algunas acciones que estudia FIDI con el fin de reducir el costo de la acreditacin FAIM, tal como lo ha estado solicitando LACMA por varios aos. Trabajando juntos, intentando comprender las necesidades del otro y escuchando ideas e inquietudes, de se-guro podremos ver un desarrollo posi-tivo en nuestra industria.
