Child Mind Cenovus Play CentreCan’t find a sitter for your child while you work out? We can help. The Bold Center’s child minding area has play structures, arts and crafts, and other activities led by our staff. Your kids will love it, and so will you.

HOURS OF OPERATION (APRIL 1 TO AUGUST 31)

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays

9 am - 1 pm: drop-in*

1 pm - 4 pm: parent-supervised play (free)

Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays

4 pm - 8pm: drop-in*

Saturday & Sunday: closed

*Child mind drop-in fees apply.

RATES1 child | $2.75 per half hour, $50 per 10 hours

Family (2-4 children) | $6 per half hour, $85 per 10 hours

Infants | $5 per half hour (1 hour maximum)*Rates may be subject to change.

CHILD MIND GUIDELINES• Reserved for children ages 6 months to

12 years old.

• Drop in with your child (max of 3 hours per dayper child).

• Parents must remain within the Bold Center.

• Parents must provide own snacks.

• Registration forms must be completed.

• Sick children cannot be accepted for care.

• Please remember to bring clean indoor shoes.

An Infant Care program is available for children aged 6 months to 2 years. Only 2 spots are available per hour.

User GuidelinesThe Bold Center works to provide a safe, enjoyable environment for all users. Full guidelines are posted throughout the facility.

Children & Youth SupervisionThe safety and well-being of children and youth in our facility is a priority. Children 8 years and under must be actively supervised at all times while in the facility by a responsible person 12 years or older. If issues or incidents arise, parents or guardians will be contacted.

AccessibilityWe are committed to integrating all residents into our programs and services. The Bold Center is fully-accessible, with an elevator to all three levels of the facility. We continue to partner with community liaisons and support services so that everyone, regardless of their physical or cognitive abilities, can participate in activities at the Bold Center.

Support workers are not required to pay for admission when accompanying clients to use recreation facilities.

WristbandsGuests accessing areas that require paid admission will receive a wristband from Guest Services. Guests must wear and keep wristbands visible while in the Bold Center’s proof-of-payment areas.

Wristbands will be required for re-entry if a guest wishes to access the facility at various times throughout the day. In some cases, wristbands may be issued for participation in registered programs. If you do not have a wristband, you will be asked to pay or leave.

Pay To PlayEveryone who wishes to access any of the leisure opportunities provided at the Bold Center must pay an admission fee. Admission may be in the form of a paid membership or daily drop-in fee. Guests may be required to provide proof of age to qualify for special membership and drop-in discounts.

Registration InformationHow to RegisterRegistration for all programs will remain open until the end of the first class, provided the minimum registration has been met one week prior to classes starting. You can sign up in person, or by calling the Bold Center at 780-623-3829 or Portage Pool at 780-623-6777 with a valid credit card.

Payment and ConfirmationPayment is required in full at the time of registration. Accepted forms of payment include debit, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, cheque, or cash. Individuals will be subject to a $20 NSF charge for insufficient funds or stopped cheques.

CancellationsClasses may be combined or cancelled due to insufficient registration. To ensure classes run with a minimum number of participants, please register at least one week before class start dates. Participants will be notified if classes are combined or cancelled, and transfer or refund options will be provided.

TransferringParticipants can transfer to a different class, provided that space permits and they do this before the start of the second class. Instructors reserve the right to withdraw or transfer participants if a registered participant’s skill level doesn’t meet requirements.

WithdrawingParticipants who withdraw from a program at the end of the first class will be issued a full refund or credit. Withdrawals made after the end of the first class will not receive a refund without a doctor’s note or supporting documentation. Refund restrictions apply to workshops, courses and programs which run for 3 or more consecutive days.

Statutory HolidaysUnless otherwise indicated, classes will not be offered on any statutory holiday.

Par-Qs, Waivers and Medical ConditionsPar-Qs and waivers are required for all classes and lessons, and must be completed annually. Please advise staff when registering for programs of any medical concerns or special care instructions.

Drop-InsDrop-ins are available for all classes.

The Lifejacket Loaner Station is opening for its second year on Friday, May 18th!

Lifejackets will be available all-day long until September for community to borrow and return.

LIFEJACKET LOANERSTATION REOPENING!

Pool Safety • Evacuate pool and follow staff instructions

when alarm/whistle is sounded.• A maximum of three children under 7 years of

age must be actively supervised in the pool (and on immediate deck and amenities) by a responsible person 12 years of age or older.

• Keep children under 7 years of age within arms' reach at all times. Children who are not supervised will not be allowed in the pool area.

• Everyone must be able to complete the facility swim test before entering deep water (above chest depth). Youth aged 7-11 must demonstrate this ability and those 12 years of age or older may be asked.

• Know your limits. Be aware of changing water depths. Lifejackets are recommended for all weak or non-swimmers.

• No running on pool deck or in change rooms.• Do not dive into shallow end - go in feet first.• No fooling around, wrestling or rough play,

especially on diving board, slide, swinging rope or pool edge.

• No prolonged breath holding or breath holding games.

Pool Protocols • Tell staff about medical problems (heart

condition, epilepsy, etc.)• Do not swim if suffering from a cold, flu,

bacterial or viral infection, communicable disease or severe skin condition. *Do not enter pool if you currently have diarrhea, or had diarrhea within the last two weeks.

• Report contamination (vomit, blood, and feces) right away to staff for cleaning. Water contamination may result in long and costly pool cleaning and shutdown.

• No spitting, and avoid swallowing pool water.• Limit your stay in the steam room, sauna or

whirlpool to no longer than 10 minutes at a time. *Please consult a doctor if you have epilepsy, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart conditions or are pregnant.

• Clean swimming apparel is required in the pool.• Take a cleansing shower before every swim to

avoid carrying dirt, bodily secretions, bacteria or residue from hygiene products into the pool.

Change Rooms• Remove shoes before entering the

viewing area.• Finish eating and drinking before entering

change room. Use garbage bins provided.• Children 7 years of age and older must use the

change room designated for their gender, or use the family change room.

• No open or glass containers are allowed in the change room or pool area.

• Protect your belongings by securing them in a locker. Do not bring valuables to facilities. However, small lockers are available in lobby areas, free of charge, for wallets and keys.

• Use washroom facilities before swimming, especially children.

• Children who are not toilet-trained must wear waterproof diapers (available from the cashier).

• Ensure children and/or adult diapers are properly secured and changed regularly to prevent oversaturation and leakage.

• Persons under the influence of intoxicants will not be allowed into the facility. Consumption of alcohol and/or drugs on the premises is not permitted.

Swimming lesson registration opens Saturday, March 31st at 11 am and closes the end of the second class in each lesson.

The spring session begins Monday, April 16 and ends the week of June 11, 2018, with some exceptions.

Red Cross Swim PreschoolStarfish (Ages 4 to 12 months)*Babies must be able to hold their heads up.

Babies and their caregivers work on getting wet, buoyancy and movement, front, back and vertical position in the water, and shallow water entries and exits.

Duck (Ages 12 to 24 months)Tots and their caregivers work on rhythmic breathing, moving forward and backward, front and back float with recovery, and shallow water entries and exits.

Sea Turtle (Ages 24 to 36 months) Toddlers work on submersion, front and back floats and glides, jumping into chest-deep water with assistance, kicking on front and front swim. This is an introductory course designed to increase the swimmers comfort in the water. Caregiver participation is optional.

Sea Otter (Ages 3 - 6)Swimmers work on front and back floats and glides, kicking on front with a buoyant object, and will be able to swim 1 metre upon completion of this level.

REQUIREMENT | 3 years-old and

comfortable submerging head.

Salamander (Ages 3 - 6)Salamanders work on improving their front and back float and jumping into chest-deep water unassisted. Kicking is added to the front and back glide, and swimmers will be able to swim 2 metres upon completion.

Swim Kids 2 Build skills for front/back swims in deep water, and build endurance in flutter kick with assisted glides. Learn proper use of Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs).

Swim Kids 3 Learn front crawl, diving, and making wise choices around water. Work on floats and changing direction in water. Build strength in flutter kick and swim 15 metres continuously.

June is Parks & Recreation Month A partnership between Lac La Biche County, Be Fit For Life, P.L.A.Y. (Physical Literacy And You) Group Lac La Biche & Active Kids Society

June is Parks & Recreation Month,

when local organizations partner

to get residents healthy, active,

and connected to nature through

play. During June, kids can develop

physical literacy through free

activities, learning fundamental

movement skills like running, jumping,

hopping, balancing, throwing, and

swimming. These skills give children

the means to participate in most

sports and recreational activities,

leading them to be active for life.

FCSS GrantsLac La Biche County FCSS grant funds are available for non-profit organizations and social service groups that are involved in the delivery of preventive social services to Lac La Biche County residents. Programs must provide preventive social services that meet provincial funding criteria. SUPPORT SERVICES

Canada Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) for SeniorsThe CVITP is a collaboration between the Canada Revenue Agency and community organizations. We host tax preparation clinics for seniors. We also have volunteers to help seniors (only those with modest incomes and a simple tax situation) prepare income tax and benefit returns. This program is free, and services are offered by appointment.

Paratransit ServicesThis door-to-door service offers rides to medical appointments, professional services, shopping venues, and social events. Paratransit users also benefit from a wheelchair lift and can bring a guest at no extra charge, should they require support during their trip. When you register for the programs, you’ll receive a monthly invoice similar to a Lac La Biche County utility bill in the mail.

Rural (within Lac La Biche County limits): one way $8, round trip $16
