In the 2011/12 financial year, many Youth Clubs were either closed or run down and the Youth Budget was cut by £100,000 for 2012-13. Labour supported the budget cuts. The Labour and Independent coalition has failed to financially support the Carmarthenshire YFC and Urdd Gobaith Cymru. The Independent & Labour administration brought out a plan to close the Parc Howard and Carmarthen Museum at Abergwili. There was much opposition from organisations and the general public. Following an Education Scrutiny Committee action was postponed. Why? The timing of elections may have been a factor! The County Council’s contribution to Mentrau Iaith was cut in half (£50,000) in the budget for 2012-13 supported by Labour. The Athrawon Bro budget for 2012-13 has been cut by £68,000 and £165,000 for 2013-14. This again supported by Labour. Labour voted to close Caemaen and St. Pauls residential homes, but Plaid Cymru won the vote to stop closures. Recent records show how the Independent / Labour administration closed many day centres and luncheon clubs. It is the efforts of local communities and Plaid members that have kept them open. The County Council has abdicated responsibility for a number of these clubs and are now run privately. It was the Labour/Independent coalition which closed it down.

In the planned three year budget Labour supported cuts in ‘Post 16 Transport’ to the tune of £65,000 in 2013-14 and £422,000 in 2014-15. Does Labour want to review what their councillors have already supported?

Labour’s budget has a cut of £55,000 over the next 3 years at Pembrey Country Park, Llyn Llech Owain by £84,000 and the Millenium Coastal Park by £70,000.

Under the Labour/ Independent administration, 70% of Social Care has been privatised leaving just 30% in council control. Labour members forget it is their Labour party colleagues in the Welsh Government who are allowing the Health Board to potentially downgrade services.

The Labour party in Carmarthenshire has promised many things in its manifesto for the upcoming election. Unfortunately, having controlled the council in coalition with Meryl Gravell and her Independent group for the

past eight years, Labour’s actions do not match their promises. Here are just some examples of Labour’s double standards.

After EIGHT years of a Labour and Independent coalition running the County Council, Labour has absolutely no credibility to keep their promises. Vote for change in the upcoming election.
