PART 1 GENERAL

1.01 GENERAL DESIGN REQUIREMENTSA. Fume hoods shall function as ventilated, enclosed workspaces, designed to capture, confine, and exhaust fumes,

vapors and particulate matter produced or generated within the enclosure.

B. Design fume hoods for consistent and safe air flow through the hood face. Negative variations of face velocity shall not exceed 20% of the average face velocity at any designated measuring point as defined in this section.

C. Average illumination of work area: Minimum 80 foot-candles. Work area shall be defined as the area inside the superstructure from side to side and from face of baffle to the inside face of the sash, and from the working surface to a height of 28 inches.

D. Fume hood shall be designed to minimize static pressure loss with adequate slot area and stainless steel exhaust collar configuration. Maximum average static pressure loss readings taken three diameters above the hood outlet from four points, 90 degrees apart, shall not exceed the following maximums (typical sash height at 30"):Face Velocity Measured S.P.L. (W.G.)75 F.P.M. .18 inches100 F.P.M. .30 inches125 F.P.M. .45 inches150 F.P.M. .60 inches

PART 2 MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION

2.01 FUME HOOD MATERIALSA. Steel: High quality, cold rolled, mild steel meeting requirements of ASTM A366; gauges U.S. Standard.

C. Ceiling Closure Panels: Minimum 18-gauge; finish to match hood exterior.

D. Bypass Grilles: Low resistant type, 18-gauge steel, upward directional louvers.

E. Safety Glass: 7/32" thick laminated safety glass.

F. Sash Cables: 7 x 7 steel, coated, 1/16" diameter coated to 3/32". (Military spec. quality)

G. Sash Guides: Full length extruded corrosion resistant polyvinyl chloride or powder coated steel with PVC guides to protect against metal to metal contact.

Specifications

2. Access to fixture valves concealed in wall provided by exterior removable access panels, access panels on the inside liner walls, or through removable front posts.

3. Hoods must be of full frame construction. Hoods that use metal brackets and spacers to hold interior and exterior panels in place are unacceptable.

B. Exhaust Outlet: 10" round, 20-gauge stainless steel exhaust collars.

C. Access Opening Perimeter: Top and sides of face opening to be radiused or angled.

D. Bottom Horizontal: Foil shall be flush mount type and provide a 1" bypass to ensure a clean sweep and to minimize eddies along the work surface when sash is in the closed position.

E. Sash Design:1. Bottom sash rail: 1-1/2" frame section, 16-gauge steel, PVC, or stainless steel. Provide flush pull, full width of

bottom rail.

2. Safety glass: Set into rails in deep form extruded polyvinyl chloride or neoprene glazing channels.

3. Counter balance system: Single weight, pulley, cable, counter balance system which prevents sash tilting by means of a "shaft driven" system and permits one finger operation at any point along full width. Sash not using this type of counter balance system is unacceptable. Maximum 9 pounds pull required to raise or lower sash throughout its full length of travel. Design system to hold sash at any position without creep and to prevent sash drop in the event of cable failure.

4. Open and close rubber bumper sash stops.

F. Fume Hood Liner: Polyresin (reinforced polyester panel) smooth finish and white color in final appearance. Flexural strength: 14,000 psi. Flame spread: 15 or less per U.L.723 and ASTM E84-80.

The 51100 SERIES hood is an airfoil-type hood with a 45-degree angle around the fascia and a flush mount radius airfoil across the bottom. The result is minimized turbulence with increased performance.

The superstructure is designed to remove fumes, both those heavier and lighter than air. Baffle positions are fixed for both safety and consistent and complete containment of fumes at all sash positions.

The interior of the hood is lined with a U.L.-certified Polyresin board. The exterior is fabricated of cold rolled steel and finished with acid wash and powder coat. The solid frame galvanized steel construction provides both stability and convenient knock-down ability to improve flexibility. Posts are 5" (127mm) wide.

The 51200 SERIES hood features the same aerodynamic design as found in the 51100 Series, but with entrance from two sides. This provides an educational viewing hood that is commonly used in classroom/classroom or classroom/prep room situations, or whenever demonstration of experiments is desired. All remote controls (electrical and plumbing) are configured to the "instructor" side.

The superstructure is designed to remove fumes, both those heavier and lighter than air. The interior of the hood is lined with a U.L.-certified Polyresin board.

The exterior is fabricated of cold rolled steel and finished with acid wash and powder coat. The solid frame galvanized steel construction provides both stability and knock-down ability to improve flexibility. Posts are 5" (127mm) wide.

The 51400 SERIES hood is the latest in fume hood design. The slope back front operator face and safety glass side ports allow open end viewing. The back is lined with a Polyresin board, making it ideal for applications against a back wall or island and peninsula settings of back-to-back unit arrangements.

Utilizing models with the full-view safety glass back panel option allows 4-sided visibility. These units are especially suited for walkaround island applications. The rear post width allows units to be built within wall structures, with the viewing back side visible to the classroom and the side ports and slope front side contained within a safe zone "prep room arrangement."

The superstructure is designed to remove fumes, both those heavier and lighter than air. The structure exterior is fabricated of cold rolled steel and finished with acid wash and powder coat epoxy paint. Framing is galvanized steel construction with U.L.-certified Polyresin board liner material.

Canopy fume hoods are designed to collect and exhaust heat, steam, and odors when mounted above hot plates, water baths, or portable equipment. They are available in three models and six standard widths. Custom sizes are also available. Standard canopy hoods are available in 18-gauge cold rolled steel, finished with acid wash and powder coat epoxy paint. Stainless canopy hoods are fabricated of 16-gauge 304 stainless steel with a #4 smooth grain finish.

52001 Series Ceiling Enclosures

52004 Lattice Assembly

The 52001 SERIES ceiling enclosures provide a professional, finished design in any setting. Ceiling enclosures are fabricated of cold rolled steel and finished to match the fume hood superstructure. Ceiling enclosures extend from top of hood to ceiling height or soffit.

To specify, provide model number and size of hood, plus floor-to-ceiling or floor-to-soffit dimension.

The 52004 lattice assembly consists of 1/2" diameter aluminum apparatus rods with side mounting plates and cross clamps.

Lattice assembly may be added to hood in field when not ordered with hood.

To specify, provide model number and size of hood.
