Maurice, Jonathan, Vantrice, Afiq, ZeligPHYSICS LAASSummary of Report- Variables- Experimental Diagram- Procedure - Results Analysis- EvaluationConclusion Who is the murderer?OverviewThe horizontal distance travelled by the ball is proportional to the velocity of the marble as it leaves the rampOur HypothesisIndependent Variable (IV) : Speed of the ball, downslope, when it first leave the ramp, v

Dependent Variable (DV) : Horizontal distance travelled by the ball, x

Control Variables (CV): Position of wooden board from edge of bench, Vertical distance between the wooden board and the tableVariables

Apparatus:1) ramp2) protractor3) marble4) plumbline5) metre rule6) retort stand7) carbon paper8) wooden board9) data logger10) spirit level11) cellophane tape

Apparatus & Labeled Diagram

Procedures1.Suspend a plumb-line from the edge of the bench using cellophane tape as shown in Fig. 1.1 to ensure that the wooden board is perpendicular to the bench.2.Mount a wooden board horizontally using two clamps so that the board is situated about 30 cm below the bottom of the ramp. The side of the board which has a blank piece of paper attached to it should be facing uppermost and the narrower edge of the board should just be touching the plumb-line as shown in Fig. 1.1.3.Place a piece of carbon paper on top of the blank paper. The shiny (ink covered) side of the carbon paper should be facing down.4.Position the ball at the top of the ramp. Release the ball so that it rolls down the ramp and onto the board below. Remove the carbon paper and observe that the ball makes a small mark on the blank paper.

5.Using a metre rule, measure the horizontal distance x (between the plumb-line and the mark on the paper) and using the data logger, measure the speed of the ball v as it leaves the ramp.6.Increase the value of v by increasing the angle of inclination between the ramp and the bench and repeat steps 4 and 5 until you have six sets of readings for x and v. 7.Plot a graph of x against v to find the relationship between the two values.

GraphEvaluationIt is calculated from the graph that the speed reached by the woman is 5.13m/s.However, it is not possible for the woman to attain the speed stated withing a distance of 0.105 m, the acceleration would be too high for the woman to achieve that for herself. Therefore, its concluded that the woman was murdered. An external force was acting on her body when she was thrown of the cliff.Key Points to take note from Calculation(s) (from previous slide)In conclusionShe was murdered.
