Nutritional Causes
• Poor Food Choices• Larger Food Portions

• Increase in Soft Drink Consumption– 58 gallons per year
Physical Causes
• Decrease in Physical Activity• Increase in Spending Time Inside
– TV– Videogames– Computers
Ways to Combat Obesity
Get Active
• Get at least 60 minutes of Physical Activity per day
• Try to get 60 minutes of vigorous activity about three times per week
• Walk instead of drive whenever possible
• Participate in Physical Ed.
Improve Nutrition
• Eat Smaller Portions• Eat Only When You’re Hungry• Eat Slower
– Mind needs time to recognize when you’re full
• Drink more Water• Eat more Fruits and Veggies• Eat/ Drink junk food in moderation
Get Friends Involved
• Start Programs with Friends• Walk around• Get together to do Activities
– Ice Skating– Bike Riding– Frisbee– Football– Baseball– Etc.
