“Dear families, you too should be fearless, ever ready to give witness to the hope that is in you since the Good Shepherd has put that hope in your hearts through the Gospel. You should be ready to follow Christ towards the pastures of life which he himself has prepared through the Paschal Mystery of his Death and Resurrection.” (St. John Paul II “Letter to the Families” p94-95)
Pope St. John Paul II shares with us these very challenging words to fami-lies as we celebrate this Christmas Sunday honoring the Holy Family. In a time when the challenges to the family are many and varied, especially in separation and divorce, that is all too real for many families in our Church and in the world. But this doesn’t mean we are not called to emulate and seek the better in the example of the Holy Family.
“God's love never ceases to summon us. We cannot forfeit this invitation. We have been created in the image of God, and despite the reality of hu-man sin, the vocation implicit in are creation can never be erased.” (“Love is our Mission: The Family Fully Alive” #18) The US Bishops remind us of God’s continued call even in the midst of sin and hurt within marriage and the family. The invitation to seek the better, the holier, the more loving in our actions is an invitation to be united in joy and love. (Cont’d on pg. 8...)

Debéis estar dispuestas a seguir a Cristo hacia los pastos que dan la vida y que él mismo ha preparado con el misterio pascual de su muerte y resurrec-ción.” (San Juan Pablo II “Carta a las familias”) El Papa San Juan Pablo II comparte con nosotros estas palabras tan desa-fiantes para las familias que celebramos este domingo de Navidad en honor a la Sagrada Familia. En una época en que los desafíos para la familia son muchos y variados, especialmente en la separación y el divorcio, esto es demasiado real para muchas familias en nuestra Iglesia y en el mundo. Pe-ro esto no significa que no estamos llamados a emular y buscar lo mejor en el ejemplo de la Sagrada Familia.

Hemos sido creados a imagen de Dios y, a pesar de la realidad del pecado humano, no se puede borrar la vocación implícita de nuestra creación.” (“El Amor es Nuestra Misión: La Familia Plenamente Viva” #18) Los Obispos nos recuerdan que somos llamados, hasta cuando hay pecado y dolor dentro del matrimonio y la familia. Earlier this month our parish celebrated the The Rite of Acceptance & Welcome. This blessing is for adults and children who have been journeying into joining the Church through the Sacra-ment of Baptism, Confirma-tion, and/or Holy Commun-ion and are committing to the next level of their faith commitment. They plan to be received into the Church at the Easter Vigil in April. You'll notice our back walls contain photos of these children and adults. Please welcome them by name and pray for them along the full initiation into the Catholic Church.

The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph The devotion to the Holy Family was born in Bethlehem, together with the Baby Jesus. The shepherds went to adore the Child and, at the same time, they gave honor to His family. Later, in a similar way, the three wise men came from the East to adore and give honor to the newborn King with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh that would be safeguarded by His family. Today’s cele-bration demonstrates Christ’s humility and obedience with respect to the fourth commandment, whilst also highlighting the loving care that His parents exercised in His keeping. Almost intuitive-ly, one can recognize that the mysterious, exemplary, guardianship enacted by Joseph was con-ducted firstly, in a yet more intimate way, by Mary. Consequently, the liturgical feast of the Holy Family speaks to us of the fond and loving care that we must render to the Body of Christ. Look-ing at the Holy Family, we see the love, the protection, and the diligent care that they gave to the
Redeemer. We can only ask the Lord, through the intersession of the Holy Family of Nazareth, for a greater love for their Son In-carnate, who has decided to remain here on earth with us every day until the end of time. La devoción a la Sagrada Familia nació en Belén, junto con el Niño Jesús. Los pastores fueron a adorar al Niño y, al mismo tiempo, dieron honor a su familia. Si eres una pareja que han decidido regularizar su estado matrimonial o gustas explorar más acerca del beneficio de recibir el sacramento del matrimonio habla con el Sr. Anto-nio Ojeda. Aquí se enlistan los siguientes requisitos para ser presentados antes del ma-trimonio. (Si es católico; deben tener sus tres sacramentos de Iniciación: Bautismo, Co-munión y Confirmación)
1. Certificado Bautismal: Original y reciente y valido por lo menos 6 meses antes del matrimonio, la pareja presentará el certificado de bautizo, y/o primera comunión y confirmación. Si uno de los novios no es católico, tendrá que pre-sentar una carta de afiliación a la religión que pertenece.
2. Testimonio Personal: Los novios llenarán esta forma; Testimonio del testigo: Generalmente esta forma es llenada por un familiar o conocido del novio y de la novia Forma de dispensación: En caso de que uno de los novios no sea católico, él/ella promete que los hijos serán bauti-zados y criados como católicos.
3. Licencia de Matrimonio: Deben obtener su Licencia Matrimonial (sino se han casado por el civil); por lo menos un mes antes de la fecha de la boda y deben presentarla el día del ensayo. Si la pareja quiere validar su matrimonio, entonces debe mostrar el certificado de matrimonio.
4. Certificado de preparación Matrimonial: Requisito de asistencia al retiro de preparación matrimo-nial el 12 de Enero 2019 (solo por inscripción)

• RCIA: Preparation for Adults looking to join the Catholic Church through full Initia-tion and receiving Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation.
• Marriage Preparation for Engaged Couples/civilly Married: Marriage prepara-tion for newly engaged couples and those looking to "convalidate" their civil marriages are welcome to attend our quarterly marriage preparation ses-sions and retreat.
• "Catholic Netflix"- www.formed.org: St Lucy has a FREE parish subscription for ALL PARISHIONERS who want to grow their faith through an online media platform. Our parish subscription code is 9FH34Z. We encourage you to register. The Formed.org app is now available on Android and Apple devices.
• Parent Faith Formation: Bi-monthly meetings for parents of children paired with our Faith Formation program. This year we are studying Bishop Barron's Catholicism Series.
• Baptism Preparation for Infants: Every month we offer a Thursday evening class retreat for parents and Godparents of infant children looking to receive the Sacrament of Baptism.
• Bible Studies: Throughout the year we offer series of Bible Studies on various topics on Monday evenings or Tuesday mornings.

El Papa Francisco en su Exhortación apostólica "Amoris Laetitia" nos habla de la naturaleza de la vida de la familia y el matrimonio y de cómo la protección de la vida se entiende completamente en el amor de la fami-lia. “En este contexto, no puedo dejar de decir que, si la familia es el santuario de la vida, el lugar donde la vida es engendrada y cuidada, constituye una contradicción lacerante que se convierta en el lugar donde la vida es negada y destrozada.” (A: #83)
Es en esta escuela de la vida, la familia, vemos y compartimos la plenitud del llamado de Dios que implícita-mente llama a cargar la cruz y seguir a Jesús. Una vez más, los obispos comparten: “Muchas de las ense-ñanzas morales de Cristo—y por lo tanto la ética católica—son exigentes. Pero suponen en los cristianos un espíritu de disimulado, una vida de oración y un compromiso hacia el testimonio cristiano social y económico. Sobre todo, presuponen la vida en una comunidad cristiana: esto es, una familia de otros hombres y mujeres que han encontrado a Jesús, que confiesan juntos que Él es el Señor, deseando su gracia para que dé forma a sus vidas y los ayude a responderle.” (“El Amor es Nuestra Familia” #164)
Finalmente, nuestro Santo Padre Francisco nos recuerda la belleza de la alegría de la vida familiar:
“El amor vivido en las familias es una fuerza constante para la vida de la Iglesia…. Pope Francis in his Apostolic Exhortation “Amoris Laetitia” speaks to us of the life giving nature of family and marriage and how the protection of life is fully understood in the love of the family. “Here I feel it urgent to state that, if the family is the sanctuary of life, the place where life is conceived and cared for, it is a horren-dous contradiction when it becomes a place where life is rejected and destroyed.” (AL #83)
It is in this school of life, the family, we see and share the fullness of God’s call that implicitly calls for the tak-ing up the cross and following Jesus. Once more the Bishops share, “Many of Christ's moral teachings, and thus Catholic ethics, are demanding. But they presume in Christians a spirit of discipleship, a life of prayer, and a commitment to social and economic Christian witness. Above all, they presuppose life in a Christian community––i.e., a family of other men and women who have encountered Jesus, who together confess that he is Lord, watching his grace to shape their lives, and helping each other respond to him.” (“Love is our Mis-sion” #164)
Finally, our Holy Father Francis reminds us of the beauty of joy of family life, “The experience of love and family perennial source of strength for the life of the church.… Through their union and love, the couple expe-riences the beauty of fatherhood and motherhood, and shares plans, trials, expectations and concerns; they learn care for one another and mutual forgiveness.” (AL #88) Please pray for all families that the blessing of God may be with them always.

St. Lucy's Altar Society Birthday Luncheon
The oldest organization in St. Lucy Parish was formed in 1937. In January 2019, the Altar Society will be 83 years old. The ministry of the Altar Society is to maintain the altar linens and sanctuary of the church, to unite members for spiritual growth and to provide members the opportunity for social gathering. During these 83 years the Altar Society has served 4 pastors and 3 St. Lucy churches. So, on January 3rd, we will celebrate with a catered lasagna luncheon from Mama Mia's. We look forward to seeing all members because it is you who have worked over the years to maintain and upkeep the altar and the linens. See you on Jan 3 at 12pm in the PAC.
