“HeartsonFire” Last Sunday we had “doubting Thomas” who needed to touch Jesus to believe in Him. The Gospel today picks up after the famous encounter with the Risen Lord on the way to Emmaus. The same two disciples who had been traumatized by the death of Jesus and so were returning to the safety of Emmaus. Here they are pictured as relating the experience of being spun around by their meeting with Jesus on the road: this very Jesus who had broken bread with them. Their hearts were on ire during this intimate liturgy and so back they come to re-late their story to the community. Are our hearts on ire with Jesus? Are there peo-ple in our lives with whom we are willing to share about Jesus and how our faith and our lives are strengthened because we have come to “Rediscover Jesus” here in our community?

FAMILY CATECHESIS/ FAMILY SUNDAYS

Today Fr. Michael and Fr. Louie will speak about a new exciting model we will begin for the Religious Education of Families in our community. The Family Catechesis program is unique in that it helps parents grow in their own faith while they guide their children in core faith formation. This lexible and engaging program nurtures faith. The altar candle lamp now on the St. Joseph's al-tar has been purchased and donated by the St. Mary Magdalen Ladies Altar Society. This candle is dedicated in memory of all living and deceased members .

CENTENNIAL NOTES April 7, 1909, marked the dedication of the current

St. Landry Church in Opelousas by Archbishop Blenk of New Orleans. This massive Romanesque Revival church still stands as one of the largest churches in southwest LA. St. Landry Church Parish traces its establishment back to 1776 and is the second oldest parish in the Diocese of Lafayette. Over the years, many new parishes would be formed from the boundaries of St. Landry in Opelousas. In 1920, Bishop Jeanmard formed a second parish Holy Ghost, in order to expand ministry to African-American Catholics in Opelousas.
