Our rendezvous is in Loreto, the first capital of the Californias with one night at La Mision Hotel. The morning of the 30th we’ll head to Agua Verde, where we´ll start paddling for eight days in “the world´s greatest aquarium”, according to Cousteau, and find ourselves “in a state of leave- taking, never to go nor to stay, but remain suspended in that golden emotion of love and longing: to be loved without satiety”, to quote John Steinbeck, The log from the Sea of Cortez.

Day 1The day starts with you leaving your home town and flying to Loreto, B.C.S., Mexico. In Loreto, the Ecomigrations staff will meet you at La Mision Hotel (your overnight hotel) for a trip orientation at 8:00 pm.

Day 2After breakfast the Ecomigrations staff will meet you at 9:00 am. at La Mision Hotel to transfer you by van (30 min trip) to our launch beach. From there you’ll take a one hour boat ride to our first camp site at La Ballenita. After our camp introduction, safety talk and kayak orientation, we’ll have our first meal on the beautiful coast of the Sea of Cortez, and after that we’ll be ready to begin our first afternoon paddle in Baja.

Day 3-5We’ll be paddling south each day for 4-5 hours and we’ll cover 7-20 miles (depending on the group´s speed and the weather conditions), with frequent stops to stretch our legs and eat. We’ll also have the opportunity to explore coves and beaches along the coastline of the Sierra de La Giganta. Each day we’ll reach isolated beaches along the way for overnight camping. In the morning and afternoon we’ll have time to hike and learn more about geology and the native flora and fauna of this wonderful ecosystem, or we’ll simply jump into the skiff for an occasional morning of fishing or to have our “happy hour” while we enjoy sunset from the sea. During this part of the trip we’ll also learn about the lifestyle in the few coastal villages with friendly Baja families, their past history and their present day lives, in the hope of understanding why this part of the world is important not only for them, but for all of us. Some afternoons we can also take breaks from paddling because the snorkeling opportunities are too good to miss!

Day 6After breakfast, we’ll break camp and load our boats to reach our final site at Espiritu Santo Island. On our way, we’ll stop at Los Islotes, a rookery home to tons of different species of fish, invertebrates and birds. At Los Islotes, we’ll have the opportunity to snorkel with highly curios sea lions, in their own element, and on their own terms.

Day 7-8Based on Espiritu Santo Island, a National Marine Park for the protection of the flora and fauna of the Sea of Cortez, and a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site, we´ll continue our Ecomigrations activities, a hearty variety of water sports in beautiful protected coves and pristine and fertile reefs, hiking desert trails with their unique and protected animals and plants.

Day 9After a final breakfast on the island. we’ll break camp and load our boats to reach our final destination: La Paz. On the way, before taking you to your hotel, we’ll stop for your final skorkeling opportunity of this adventure with whale sharks gathered in the La Paz bay. Once in La Paz, you can enjoy a nice hot shower and you’ll have time to take a walk downtown or take an afternoon siesta.

Day 10This is a travel day back home, unless you have arranged to spend extra time in Baja California Sur.

We hope sincerely see you soon again!!
