• My God, why have you forsaken me? Mt. 27:46, Quoting prophecy, Ps 22:1. Doesn’t say that God turned his back on him “because he was full of sin.” 2 Cor. 5:21, he became the sacrifice for sin. He accepted the punishment for sin, not the guilt.

• Himno # 15, 3a estrofa, última línea, “Cuan-do el divino rostro de ti Dios apartó”; última estrofa, 2a línea, “En ese mismo instante en que Dios te dejó”. La Biblia no dice esto. No dice que Dios literalmente abandonó a Jesús.

• Hymn # 15, 3rd stanza, last line, “When the divine face withdrew from you”; last stanza, 2nd line, “In that same instant in which God left you.” The Bible does not say this. It does not say that God literally abandoned Jesus.

• Consumado es: Jn. 19:30, “Cuando Jesús hubo tomado el vinagre, dijo: Consumado es”. Corresponde a Mat 27:50, “habiendo clamado a gran voz”. Lenguaje de triunfo, Jn. 12:32; Gén. 3:15; Heb. 2:14-15.

• It is finished: Jn. 19:30, “So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!” Corresponds to Matt 27:50, “cried out with a loud voice.” Language of triumph Jn. 12:32; Gen. 3:15; Heb. 2:14,15.

• Entregó el espíritu. Jn. 19:30, “Y habiendo inclinado la cabeza, entregó el espíritu”. Jn 10:17, 18, “pongo mi vida”. Ya no sería azotado, escupido, desnudado… no habría corona de espinas, escarnio. ¡Ya se acabó!

• Delivered up His spirit. Jn. 19:30, “And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.” Jn 10:17, 18 “I lay down my life.” Now there would be no more scourgings, being spat upon, stripped … there would be no crown of thorns, mockery. It was finished!

• En tus manos encomiendo mi espíritu: Luc. 23:46, “Padre en tus manos encomiendo mi espíritu. Y habiendo dicho esto expiró”. No dice “mi espíritu humano”. Para ser hombre sólo necesitaba cuerpo, Heb. 10:4, 5.

• Into your hands I commend my spirit: Lk. 23:46, “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit. And having said this, he breathed his last.” Does not say “my human spirit.” To be a man He only needed a body, Heb. 10:4, 5.

En verdad era Hijo de Dios: Mat. 27:54, “El centurión y los que estaban con él custodiando a Jesús, cuando vieron el terremoto y las cosas que sucedían, se asustaron mucho, y dijeron: En verdad éste era Hijo de Dios”.

• Truly He was the Son of God: Mt. 27:54, “So when the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they feared greatly, saying, "Truly this was the Son of God!"

• El velo del templo se rasgó en dos: Mateo 27:51, “Y he aquí, el velo del templo se rasgó en dos, de arriba abajo; y la tierra tembló, y las rocas se partieron; 52 y se abrieron los sepulcros, y muchos cuerpos de santos que habían dormido, se levantaron”.

• Con razón se compungieron de corazón: Hech. 2:37, “Al oír esto, se compungieron de corazón, y dijeron a Pedro y a los otros apóstoles: Varones hermanos, ¿qué haremos?”

• With good reason they were cut to the heart: Acts 2:37, “Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?"

• Luc 23:49 “Pero todos sus conocidos y las mujeres que le habían seguido desde Galilea (sirviéndole, Mt 27:55) estaban lejos mirando estas cosas”. Últimas en dejar la cruz, primeras en llegar a la tumba vacía.

• Lk 23:49 “But all His acquaintances and the women who followed Him from Galilee, (ministering unto Him, Mt 27:55) stood at a distance, watching these things.” Last to leave the cross, first to come to empty tomb

• Jesús estuvo muerto. Incrédulos dicen que se desmayó, que no estuvo muerto. Un factor importante: Jn 19:31, sábado de gran solemnidad, judíos no querían dejar los cuerpos en la cruz.

• Jesus was dead. Unbelievers say that He fainted, wasn’t dead. An important factor: Jn. 19:31, Sabbath of great solemnity, Jews did not want to leave the bodies on the cross.

• Homicidio o.k., pero violar el sábado, no. Romanos dejaban cuerpos en la cruz, para ser destruidos por putrefacción o por animales y aves de rapiña.

• Pero Dt 21:22, 23, quitar del madero. Jn. 19:31,32, quebraron las piernas de los dos criminales. De esa manera, no podían recuperarse, y los podían quitar de la cruz.

• Otras profecías cumplidas. Jn 19:36; Ex. 12:46 “ni quebraréis hueso suyo” (cordero pascual). Jn 19:37; Zac 12:10, “Mirarán al que traspasaron”.

• Other prophecies fulfilled. Jn 19:36; Ex. 12:46 “nor shall you break one of its bones” (of Passover lamb). Jn 19:37; Zech 12:10, “They shall look on Me whom they pierced.”

• “Hoy estarás conmigo en el paraíso” – no en otros días o años. Por eso, murió ese día. Otra profecía (la de Jesús) cumplida.

• Today you will be me in Paradise” – not in other days or years. Therefore, he died that day. Another prophecy (that of Jesus) was fulfilled.

• Juan era testigo de la muerte de Jesús. Jn 19:35, “Y el que lo vio da testimonio”. Esto es muy importante: ¡Cristo murió por noso-tros! No es posible refutar el testimonio ocular del apóstol Juan.

• John was a witness of the death of Jesus. Jn. 19:35, “And he who has seen has testified.” This is very important: Christ died for us. It is not possible to refute the eye-witness testimony of the apostle John.

• José de Arimatea pidió el cuerpo de Jesús. Luc 23:50-52. Miembro del concilio que no había consentido en el acuerdo ni en los hechos de ellos. Discípulo secreto de Jesús. Esperaba el reino de Dios.

• Muy significativo. Apóstoles no encargados del cuerpo, sino judíos muy respetados. No hubieran sepultado a un hombre vivo (desmayado). Pilato sorprendido que Jesús muerto, Mar 15:44; preguntó al centurión; éste confirmó que estaba muerto.

• Very significant. Apostles not in charge of body; very respected Jews were. Would not have buried a man alive (fainted). Pilate surprised that Jesus was dead, Mk 15:44; asked the centurion; he confirmed that Jesus was dead.

• ¿Por qué tanto énfasis sobre la muerte de Jesús? Si Jesús no estuvo muerto, no resucitó y si no resucitó estamos en los pecados todavía, 1 Cor. 15:17.

• Why so much emphasis on the death of Jesus? If Jesus was not dead, He was not resurrected and if not resurrected, we are still in our sins.

• Sepulcro nuevo. Jn 19:41, “sepulcro nuevo, en el cual aún no había sido puesto ninguno”– el único sepultado allí. No sepulcro familiar. No confundir con otro. Conservar identidad. Nada de engaño.

• New tomb. Jn. 19:41, “a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid” – only one buried there. Not a family grave. Not confuse with another. Conserve identity. No chance of deception.

• Que había labrado en la peña. Mat 27:60. No como cueva (Gén. 50:13), varios sepultados. En algunas cuevas hay túneles (hubiera sido posible remover el cuerpo secreta-mente). Nade de esto en tumba nueva la-brada en la peña.

• Which he had hewn out of the rock. Matt 27:60. Not like cave (Gen. 50:13), where several buried. In some caves there are tunnels (would have been possible to secretly remove the body). None of this in a new tomb carved out of rock.

• El mismo Jesús que murió en la cruz, este mismo Jesús fue sepultado en el sepulcro de José de Arimatea, y este mismo Jesús resucitó del sepulcro el tercer día.

• Para que los discípulos no roben el cuerpo. Mat 27:64, “no sea que vengan sus discípu-los de noche, y lo hurten, y digan al pueblo: Resucitó de entre los muertos”. No tenía sentido, pero confirmó la resurrección.

• Lest the disciples rob the body. Mt. 27:64, “lest His disciples come by night and steal Him away, and say to the people, 'He has risen from the dead.’” Didn’t make sense but it confirmed the resurrection.

• Sellando la piedra, Mat 27:65. ¿Los apósto-les que huyeron (Mar 14:50) se atreverían a resistir a los soldados romanos, quebrar tal sello oficial y remover la rueda de piedra? (¿o hacerlo sin despertar a los soldados? Creer esto más difícil que creer verdad.

• Sealing the stone. Mt. 27:65. The apostles who fled (Mk. 14:50) would dare to resist the roman soldiers, break the official seal and remove the wheel of stone? (Or do all this without awakening the soldiers?) To believe this harder than believing the truth.

• Emplearon todo medio posible para evitar que Jesús saliera o se quitara de la tumba. Esto dio tranquilidad a los judíos, pero al mismo tiempo confirmó la resurrección.

• They used every means possible to keep Jesus from leaving or being taken from the tomb. All of this gave Jews peace of mind, but at same time confirmed the resurrection.
