YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention ProgramCHANGE TODAY FOR A HEALTHIER FUTURE You can reduce your risk for type 2 diabetes and gain tools for healthy living. DID YOU KNOW? • About 86 million American adults have prediabetes,

up from 79 million in 2010.

• People with prediabetes are likely to develop type 2 diabetes within 10 years, unless they take action to prevent or delay the disease.

• Diabetes is a leading cause of heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney disease and nerve disease.

THE GOOD NEWS . . . Lifestyle changes such as eating healthier, increasing physical activity and losing 7% of your weight can prevent or delay development of type 2 diabetes in those at high risk for the disease. With the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program, you can work with others in a small group setting to learn how to adopt habits that will improve your overall health and well-being and reduce your risk. The program, which is led by a trained Lifestyle Coach in a classroom setting, is delivered over a 12-month period, beginning with 16 weekly sessions transitioning to bi-weekly then monthly maintenance.

VOLUNTEERISM & GIVINGFinancial SupportANNUAL CAMPAIGNThe generosity of others is at the core of our existence. It is only through the support of our thousands of volunteers and public and private donors that we are able to give back to the communities we serve. The Y’s Annual Campaign provides financial assistance to families who would otherwise be unable to participate in value-rich programs that allow youth to create a future beyond their imagination.

When you give to the Y, you continue to strengthen our community and move us all forward. As the nation’s leading nonprofit for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, the Y uses your gift to make a meaningful, enduring impact right in your own neighborhood.

HOW CAN YOU HELP? • Raise funds by asking others to give a gift and ensure the Y is accessible

to all members of the community

• Give a gift to the Y’s Annual Campaign

SPECIAL EVENT & PROGRAM SPONSORSHIPSupport the Y’s Annual Campaign by sponsoring a special event or program. Your generous contribution allows the YMCA to offer special events that raise money for our Annual Campaign and offer our youth and family programs at a reduced or free rate ensuring the Y and its programs are accessible to all members of the community. For information on becoming a special event sponsor contact Travis Pernsteiner, Marketing Director by calling 608.519.5483 or by email at [email protected].

ANNUAL CAMPAIGN BANNER DONORIndividuals and businesses giving a gift of $1,000 or more annually are recognized as an Annual Campaign Banner Donor. Recognition includes banners that will be seen by the thousands of YMCA members each day and being recognized for helping make a meaningful, enduring impact right in your own neighborhood. To become a Annual Campaign Banner Donor contact our Director of Development, Andrea Pengra, by calling 608.519.5457 or by email at [email protected].

VolunteersPOLICY VOLUNTEERSVolunteers, by their very nature, help root the La Crosse Area Family YMCA to its identity as an association of people motivated by an ethic of service.

Policy volunteers are the people who serve on boards, committees, task forces, and those who act as trustees. Policy volunteers may have skills in finance, human resources, real estate, construction, law, public relations, or other areas of expertise.

The La Crosse Area Family YMCA invites you to have a lasting impact in your community, help solve problems closest to home—or better yet—prevent them by serving as a policy volunteer. For details contact La Crosse Area Family YMCA Executive Director, Bill Soper, at 608.782.5944.

PROGRAM VOLUNTEERSProgram volunteers have direct contact with Y members and people in the community. They help the YMCA deliver programs and services. As a YMCA program volunteer, you can lead an exercise class, read to a preschool class, coach a basketball team, cook for a bake sale, design a program brochure, greet people at the front desk, and/or serve as a role model for young people. We invite you to get involved as a mentor, tutor, coach, or instructor and have a lasting impact on individuals in your service area. No matter how you help, you’ll make a big difference as you work with others to create a feeling of connectedness in your community.

We also welcome young people to serve in all of the above capacities as long as, like adults, they have the proper skills, training, and supervision.

Besides program volunteers, we also have opportunities for individuals wishing to give some of their time and talents through office support. Whether it’s working on a computer or helping label envelopes, your skills are welcomed and appreciated at the Y.

To learn more about our program and support volunteer opportunities, contact our HR Director, Jackie Ripp at 608.519.5465.
