The relatively unknown Bobal grape with its unique flavour is only to be found in this re-gion and not anywhere else in the world. It was once used to profitably produce bulk wine, but the price of grapes are now in free fall and most of the small growers are elderly with no one to take over the family lands. At the same time, small wineries have sprung up, creating high quality bottled wine using the Bobal grape, promoting its unique taste and qualities.

Zev Robinson’s background as an artist informs a personal, poetic approach to the work. Thirty people, winery owners, grape growers and others, speak of their sometimes conflict-ing concerns, providing a powerful insight into the traditions and future of the region to-gether with the artistry and economics of wine-making. Part 1 covers the Bobal grape and the current situation in the area that it is grown. The two further parts will look at the mar-keting of the wine and the wine-making process.
