Target audience: Practicing pathologists and pathology residents.

Gila!: To acquaint the participant with the histologic features of a variety ofbenign and

malignant neoplasms and tumor-like conditions.

Objectives: The participant will be able to recognize morphologic features of a variety of benign

and malignant neoplasms and tumor-like conditions and relate those processes to pertinent. references in the medical literature.

Educational methods and media: Review of representative glass slides with associated histories. Feedback on consensus diagnoses from participating pathoiogists. Listing of selected references from the medical literature.

Principal faculty: Weldon K_ Bullock, MD Donald R. Chase, MD

CME Crejlit; .Lorna Linda University School of Medicine designates this continuing medical

education activity for up to 2 hours of Category l ofthePhysician's Recognitiori Award of the American Medical Association.

Tissue from: Cecum Accession #28487

Clinical Abstract : ACT scan done during work-up for acute bowel obstruction in this 78-year-old female showed

a complex mass in the area of the cecum. A large mass was found adherent to the cecum and a portion of small bowel, with exudates and adhesions suggestive of prior perforation.

Gross Pathology: Within the cecum was a I 0 x 9 x 9 em fungating mass that had eroded through the cecal wall

and into the mesenteric root.
