Shear Thickening fluid (STF)

1. Hardens instantly2. Behaves like a solid

when encounters mechanical stress.

3. Formed of silica particles suspended in polyethylene glycol. Forming a Colloid

4. The energy of a sudden impact stick together the particles forming Hydroclusters.

5. Four layers of STF-Treated Kevlar can dissipate the same amount of energy as 14 of neat Kevlar.

6. Requires no electricity.

Magnetoreological Fluid (MR)

1. Hardens instantly, after a person actives the magnetic field.

2. Requires current traveling to create a magnetic field.

3. Based on a ferrofluid, “oils” filled with iron particles between 3 and 10 microns.
