Many cities in the world are expected to become very overcrowded

because people are moving from countryside to cities in search of work and better lifestyle

Although some industrialized nations are struggling with aging, this might be offset by immigrants/expats coming from developing countries, where overpopulation is an issue.

Urbanization and Overpopulation

Unless serious precautions will be taken, overpopulation and urbanization might create serious issues in cities, where facilities, such as water supplies and public transport cannot cope with demand from increased number of people.

Metropolitan CitiesMore metropolitan areas will be created to accommodate increased number of urban dwellings

Environment and CityUrbanization creates challenges for the environmentAir pollution from carbon dioxide, sulfur oxide, greenhouse gases, etc. might lead to global warming and climate changeMore green spaces will be needed in cities

Renewable Energy in Future Cities

More solar and wind power will be generated Industrial facilities, like chemical and power plants, that use fossil fuel will be equipped with carbon capture and sequestration technologies

Public Transport

Infrastructure will be renewed by transforming urban centers into efficient, sustainable cities using integrated water system, green economy, reuse and smart grid infrastructure and fast urban transportation systems

Private Cars and City Streets

Electric and hybrid vehicles will replace tradition onesDriverless cars with electric engines will proliferate

Urban Buildings

More energy self-sufficient homes will be available

Urban Dwellers

People will be more environmentally friendly and have moral obligation to save their cities clean for future generations

In summary, every city is unique and needs to assert itself on the global stage. There is no one-size-fits-all approach. The future of any city must adequately serve the needs of its communities and must be rooted in its own individual identity and its own model of urban environment shaped by its heritage
