banner of The Kuppanda Cup is an annual thirty day

event held on the months of April and May. It is one of

the largest community run sports event of its kind in the

South and attracts over 200,000 visitors each year.

Starting in 1997 with 60 families, we aim to be

having 300 teams participate.

Drawing international exposure, Participants and

spectators enjoy the event due to the electrifying

atmosphere, unique festival experience, and a well run

competition with reasonable prize money.

The soul of our event is the family. We have created an

event that is fun and will entertain all ages in the

family. We pride ourselves on our culture and the

community we support. In order for us to do this, our

goal this year is to increase the number of supporting

partners working with the Kuppanda Committee.

Sponsorship opportunities to support one of the biggest

event held in Kodagu are many and varied. We have

several options in a tiered sponsorship proposal and

we trust it includes an option that suits you as a

sponsor.

KODAGU

Nestled amid ageless hills that line the southernmost

edge of Karnataka is the luscious Kodagu (Coorg)

region, gifted with emerald landscapes and acres of

plantations. Kodagu (Coorg), the thickly wooded

grandeur on the Western Ghats, is the most beautiful

hill station of Karnataka.

It occupies an area of 4,102 square kilometers (1,584

sq mi) in the Western Ghats of southwestern

Karnataka.

As of 2001, the population was 548,561, 13.74% of

which resided in the district's urban centers, making

it the least populous of the 30 districts in Karnataka.

Kodagu is well known in the world for coffee and its

"brave warriors". Madikeri is the headquarters of

Kodagu. Kodagu is home to the native speakers of

Kodava language.

Kodagu is considered rich with wildlife and has three

wildlife sanctuaries and one national park: the

Brahmagiri, Talakaveri, and Pushpagiri Wildlife

Sanctuaries, and the Nagarhole National Park, also

known as the Rajiv Gandhi National Park.

KODAVA

The Kodavas (anglicized as Coorgs) are a patrilineal ethno-lingual group from the region of Kodagu

(in Karnataka state of southern India) who natively

speak the Kodava language. Traditionally they were

land-owning agriculturists with martial traditions.

By religion most of them are of the Hindu community.

The Kodava Hindus, are a non- Brahminical sect who

believe more in reverence towards nature and their

ancestors then in the strict following of the Vedic

Hindu principles. Kodavas were called Kshatriyas

based on their legendary descent, the rights they

held to carry arms from the ancient times and their

military traditions. They practice family exogamy and

caste endogamy.

Although there are a variety of theories as to the

origin of Kodavas, including theories of them being

either the indigenous inhabitants of their region, or of

foreign decent over two thousand years ago,

evidence has not been able to be ascertain these. B P Govind

FAMILY HOCKEY

The Kodava hockey festival was started in the year

1997 with the intent of creating a platform in which

the different Kodava families can get together.

Realizing the passion of hockey in Kodagu, this

hockey festival became an event to bring Kodavas

together.

The love of the sport and the untouched talent

within Kodagu, generated excitement and

subsequently the tournament was first held at

Karada and called as Pandanda Cup attracted

around 60 families.

Rules governed that all the team members must

belong to the same family (surname) and

participate in a full hockey attire and women

could also be a part of the team.

Over the last 18 years of its existence, the Kodava

Hockey Festival has attracted an audience from

far and wide. A 30 Day event gathering over

200,000 lovers of the game, the enigmatic event is

conducted with a lot of enthusiasm from each of

the organizing family. The Kuppanda Cup 2015,

would be the 19th Edition of this Limca Book of

Record event.
