OUR BISHOP SPEAKSLIFE’S BLESSINGS

Respected and dear brother-priests, religious and laity,Once upon a time, some mosquitoes and some bees had anexchange about their views and aims in llife.The mosquitoes said: “We do not toil or moil, as you bees do – nordo we have any desire to do it – we have a leisurely existence. Inthe night slowly and unnoticed we intrude into men’s habitations,then we sting them and suck their blood. That’s all our work. Weknow that we cause them itching and pain, but none of us couldcare less. As long as we get what we want, it’s alright with us. Weknow that people hate us, but this does not bother us.”In horror, the bees retorted: “Our way of life is just the opposite.Night and day we work hard and struggle to support ourselvesfrom the fruit of our labours. We hate to be a burden or a nuisanceto anyone; on the contrary, we are delighted to share the surplus ofour labour with others. Our aim in life is to support ourselvesas well as to give comfort, nourishment and sweetness toone and all. Flying from flower to flower, enjoying the warmth ofthe sun and light of the day, collecting scented nectar and makinghoney is truly an exhilarating and worthwhile way of living. It is inworking for ourselves and for others that we find meaning andhappiness in life.”Johann van Goethe says: “It’s not by doing the things welike, but by liking the things we do that we can discover life’sblessings.”No man can live happily who regards himself alone, who turnseverything to his own advantage.

If we want to be happy we must knock off huge chunks ofselfishness which requires self -discipline.

SALIENT POINTS OF SENATE1. This year TNBC/TNLBC annual meeting will be held at

Poondi. The diocese will host the meeting. The diocesan C.R.I.is invited to contribute to the diocese to host the meeting.

2. It was decided to have a “Village Catechists’ Seminar” at thevicariate level in all the vicariates.

3. TNBC announces that from April, 2016 onwards the stipendfor the Ordinary mass will be 100 and for the Sungmass 150.

4. The process of beatification of Rev.Fr. V. S. Loudu Xavier ison progress. The preparation for taking a film on PoondiMadha and Rev.Fr.Loudu Xavier is going on. Each family inour diocese can contribute 200 to the cause of shootingthe film and get a D.V.D. copy of the film from the ParishPriest.

5. The Pastoral letter of our Bishop on the theme “Year of Mercy”has been released.

6. It was proposed to exhibit some cut-outs or posters in ourCathedral premises depicting our religious values during theMaha Magam days. The plan for building the Eiffel tower andseven new wonders in the Cathedral campus was alsodiscussed.

7. A seminar on “Legal aspects involved in the administrationof Parishes and Institutions” will be held at Poondi on 9th July2016.

8. It was decided to check the account of Parishes andInstitutions by the Procurator, respective Vicar Forane andthe Auditor three months before the concrened Priests to betransferred. The Priests should avoid getting loans or givingthe properties on lease, undertaking any construction worketc. during the last three months of their transfers.

9. The Bishop spoke about the steps taken to settle the accountsof Sacred Heart Hospital, Kumbakonam.

10. It was suggested that the works related to the bronze statueof Adaikala Madha at Elakkurichy is to be finished soon.

11. All the hostels in our diocese should be regularized in allaspects immediately.

12. The marriages between the close relatives are to bediscouraged.

13. All the Parish Priests should see to it that masses arecelebrated regularly in the substations, especially in thechapels in the remote places.

14. The Heralds of Good News Congregation will start aMatriculation School at Valady. 30% of male students will beoffered by the diocese every year and they will be educatedat free of cost by the HGN Congregation till they finish theirprofessional studies.

15. It was decided to centralize all the matriculation schools ofour Diocese and two trusts will be established, one atKumbakonam and another at Jayankondam.

16. To promote the poor Parishes at Perambalur Vicariates andmake them self - sufficient, it was proposed that thematriculation schools run by the religious in Perambalurvicariate can contribute from their annual income.

17. The financial statements of the parishes /institutions shouldbe submitted compulsorily and the slab is to be paid to thediocese without fail.

18. The discriminations based on caste and other unwantedpractices should be avoided without any excuse.
