"Tin Horse Highway News - have you made your entry for this year's

Tin Horse Competition yet? Time is running out.

Some of the horses have recently been spruced up ready for this year’s event, including the

"Horses at the Bar' on Nobles corner which appears to have been shot at since the new

paintwork......" Some little buggers have tried to put a bullet hole in the flags - seems they

didn't like our choice of football team colours for the flags!!

4th July Sewing Workshop was great fun. If you would like to participate in our next sewing workshop then please register your interest with Sharyn 0429 801 055.

10th July School Holiday Craft Day was a really fun event for our local children! 1st August: It was lovely to get out in the sunshine and see some of the horses up close and personal. Most of the horses on the trail that required some grooming were thankfully rejuvenated by the original owners over the following weeks so it was a casual day in the end! Thanks Tommy Hebbard! 3rd August: A new horse was made by Travis McAdam, although it may not ever arrive on the Highway as it is enjoying the view of a fine canola crop along Pound Rd, South Kulin! Thanks for the loan of the shed Brian & Deb Robins! 10th August: Making mini tin horses was really cool. For those who were able to make it there was a huge range of craft to choose from to create some really delightful mini horses. Thanks Erin Bailey!

. 16th August: Knit a Square day was well attended and those who made it were fortunate to have had a brief talk given by nurse Lisa Barr from the Find Cancer Early program. For more info visit www.findcancerearly.com.au or ring 131120

Kulin opens its doors

for 2013 Bush Races! Leading up to the 2013 Kulin Bush Races Weekend, the

heritage buildings along Kulin’s main street will come to

life! Using professional actors, community members and setting up clues and scenes around the town, ‘Kulin Open

Doors’ and ‘Kulin by Night’ will showcase the town's history like never before. Photo: Early Kulin streetscape.

Kulin Open Doors – Thursday and Friday 11am – 3pm (FREE – no bookings required) - A self-guided exploration

where people will make their own way to various buildings and places in the Kulin townsite and meet some of the ‘characters’

which once had a connection to the places and to the town. Look for the ‘Open Doors’ signs outside buildings.

Kulin by Night Guided Tour – Thursday and Friday evening (Bookings Essential) - Kulin by Night is a roving

performance of dramatic encounters with characters of Kulin’s past. This experience will lead a small group through

Kulin’s historic main street at night, uncovering and discovering the stories and characters which are embedded into

the fabric of the towns original buildings...who will you bump into?

Kulin by Night Ticket Information:

• $30.00 per person (includes a specially arranged supper in the old Dining Room of the historic Kulin Hotel)

• Tickets will be available from the Shire of Kulin

• Tickets are very limited (24 people per night) so bookings are essential

Keen to be involved? We would love to hear from you!

The Shire has teamed up with 'Scooplight Theatre' who in collaboration with the Kulin community are developing the

‘Kulin Open Doors’ and ‘Kulin by Night’ experiences.

There are many ways which interested community members of all ages can be involved:

• Man and welcome visitors to different buildings which are part of the ‘Open Doors’ experience - This role is to

encourage people to 'come in' to the building and take a peek at what's going on.

• Help with the research and development - Share your story or a memory associated with one or more of our

heritage buildings

Community Information Evening – Friday 20th

Sept – Freebairn Recreation Centre @

6.00pm

The Shire of Kulin welcomes community members to come along to a presentation by Scooplight Theatre where they

will showcase what is being planned for the Kulin ‘Open Doors’ and ‘By Night’ experiences.

If you would like to be involved or would like to know more, please contact Gen Whisson at the Shire of Kulin. A big

thank you to those who have already offered to help and/or supplied memories, historical information and ideas for

the project.
