~ Danae’s Days ~ With school in session, not much has happened this month so I’ll share a thought with you.

This week I was asked, “Do you miss home at all or do you feel like you could stay there for a

long time?” I thought about it, but it didn’t take long, “I don't really miss home. I do miss

speaking English terribly. I miss familiar foods being readily available. I miss having a place I

can go to without someone knocking on my door and coming in. I miss being able to go

running in the mornings. I miss being somewhat in the same time zone as everyone I love. I

miss being able to go to the doctor and seeing someone within 30 minutes rather than 4

hours. I miss not having all the politics of a place suffocating into my personal life. I miss

special events in my family’s lives as one cousin got married, one had a baby, and my younger

brother just got engaged. I miss a lot of things but I couldn't dream of not living in this area

long-term.

It has a special heartbeat that moves to the rhythm of the grass and the winds. It is a slow

rhythm that brings people together over a warm cup of chai. It settles into your soul as the

hot sun puts people to sleep and the cool breeze brings them out again. It is as steady as the

rains falling on the metal roof tops across the town, a deafening lull that brings the world to

We broke ground for the Administrative Annex while in Kenya this last month. The girls have been captivated by the equipment and work going on. We still need close to $10,000 more to meet our goal, but are thankful that enough has come in that we can begin the work. The annex should be done by the end of February. When the annex is built we will be able to house 16-24 more girls in THE OLMALAIKA HOME which will be so amazing!

Other projects we have been working on and/or are completed –

The gate has been installed, mirrors are up in the washroom area, and we planted 40 bougainvillea plants along the fence. We are also still raising funds for a portable dental unit to do restorative care. $1000 has come in, but we need $3000 more to purchase it.

From Kim’s heart…..

We have been blessed beyond measure once again! I never dreamed that we would be able to break ground for the Administrative Annex at THE OLMALAIKA HOME while I was there in Kenya in October. God truly works in amazing ways! We were also were blessed with an awesome mission trip team. The lines at each clinic were long and at times we were taught lessons on flexibility and the need to work around obstacles. We laughed together, treated our patients with the utmost care, made new friends, tried new foods, walked the dusty roads of Narok together, shopped till we dropped (well some of us dropped while others never quit) and bounced all over the truck as we traveled the “famous” Kenyan roads. It was a great group to work with! The Kenyan government requires that THE OLMALAIKA HOME be officially registered. Please keep us in your prayers as we put the paperwork together and prepare for the home inspection. They are pushing us to finalize the registration within the next few months. It will be a huge relief to us when it is all said and done. We are so thankful that the District Children’s Officer has been so helpful and patient with us. That alone is something to praise God for!! ☺ I wish that each of you could come to Kenya with me! I just know you would fall in love with the girls at the home and to be honest the ENTIRE country! Thank you for making a difference. Kim xoxo
