Let me once more set forth the Bhavan’s faith for the benefit of new students and members for it is necessary that they should understand it clearly and imbibe its spirits.

The Bhavan stands for the reintegration of Indian Culture. In the world falling to pieces under the impact of an amoral technological avalanche, it tries to hold fast to the fundamental values, for which our culture stands - RITA, SATYA, YAGNA and TAPAS.

FAITH in God who forms the cosmic order; TRUTH which is the accord between mind, word and deed; DEDICATION which offers all movement of life as an offering to God; SUBLIMATION which purifies the body and mind and transmutes instincts, passions and emotions into things of beauty. This regardless of forms and doctrines, is DHARMA, the three fold aspects of which are - SATYAM, SHIVAM and SUNDARAM - Truth, Love and Beauty.

For these values our forefathers lived and died. So did Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Swami Dayananda,

Swami Vivekananda, Mahatma Gandhiji and Sri Aurobindo, among the moderns.

Those values are embedded in our national outlook. We command the respect because of them.

We can look forward to the future with confidence only because they have the vitality, which gives the power to vindicate their validity even in this fear and avarice-ridden age of ours.

We, the Bhavan’s Family, whether it is the smaller one or the larger one, must make every

effort in restoring an awareness of these values in personal and collective life.

Thus Bhavan’s programmes cover “all aspects of life from cradle to the grave and beyond… it fills a growing

vacuum in modern life” as Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru observed when he

first visited the Bhavan in 1950.

Founded on November, 7, 1938, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan has grown from small beginnings, into an all India intellectual, cultural and educational movement. True to its goal of revitalizing Dharma or the Moral Order in its three fold forms of Truth, Love and Beauty (Sathyam, Shivam and Sundaram), the Bhavan is ceaselessly striving to carry forward India’s ageless message of Faith, Self-Discipline and Dedication (Shraddha, Samyama and Samarpana).

Dr. K.M. Munshi, the founder of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, was a practical idealist. His was a many faceted personality. Lawyer, Author, Constitution-maker, Statesman, Social Reformer, he was above all one who persistently strove for cultural and spiritual regeneration.

Over half a century of its life, the Bhavan has been steadfastly endeavouring to hold fast to the fundamental values of life and has been fostering these values, reintegrating them with new

elements suited to modern situations. This is being accomplished through its 375-Plus constituent institutions and departments, through its centres spread all over India and abroad that exceed a hundred. Its publications in pursuit of this goal has crossed over 1800 in number with a collective sales of over 30 million copies. Through its periodical journals in different languages, through its Sanskrit and Gita examinations for which over 40,000 students appear every year, Bhavan has been pursuing its goals.

Padmashree Dr. Mathoor Krishnamurti Padmashree Dr. Mathoor Krishnamurti, is presently the Director, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Karnataka. His over 30 years’ of Bhavan’s association has seen him even establish the London Kendra.Active in propagating Indian thought and values through television programs including BBC, he is the author of a number of books and the epicentre of cultural activities of Bhavans, worldwide.

BIM is located in an integrated Bhavan infrastructure on the Hunsur Road, a mere 4 kms from the heart of Mysore. SAMUNNAYAHA – Fiesta of KnowledgeUnder the aegis of the Business Leadership Forum, Bhavan’s Institute of Management had organized SAMUNNAYAHA - a case study competition on the 26th of November 2008 for the post graduate colleges of Mysore & Bangalore. 14 Colleges participated in the competition. Dr. L. Sridhara Murthy and Sri H.D. Raghavendra were the Judges on this occasion.

Bhavan’s Post Graduate Programme in Management

This full time programme consists of six trimesters and

the subjects studied in these six trimesters are

as given here. The programme is divided into Foundation,

Functional, Capstone and Application Level courses.

Value addition courses such as Indian Society, Ethical Choices, Business Entrepreneurial Skills, Etiquette and Soft-skill development courses in Leadership Traits, Team Building, etc are introduced at appropriate intervals. Evaluation System: The evaluation is continuous assessment of a student in each course by tests, presentation, participation, seminars and examinations, as decided by the faculty. The grading is based on a five point letter grades : A, B, C, D and E. Students are required to get a minimum of ‘C’ in each subject and a minimum CGPA of 3.0 or ‘C’ for promotion from one Trimester to next, as per Institute’s rules.Development of Soft Skills: A special emphasis is given for development of soft skills at Bhavan’s Institute of Management, Mysore. The students of BIMM participated in a programme GOAL (Garwale Out-Bound Adventure Learning) at Garwale, situated 30 Kms from Madikeri, Kodagu. The students took part in management games as well as Trekking, Commando Crossing, Burma Bridge etc and experienced a community living in the midst of nature.

The Students of BIMM were provided with an opportunity to visit and stay in a rural area at Kollegal under the programme - Village Vocational Venture. They visited pottery making yard, Silk Industry (from cocoon to silk cloth manufacture), the manufacture of Jaggery, mat weaving etc. They specially enjoyed their stay at a heritage house (Thotti Mane).

Eminent Visitors to CampusDr. Sudarshan Kapoor, Founder, Professor, Department of Peace Studies, Naropa University, USA, delivered an interesting lecture on Mahatma Gandhi and his principles of Satyagraha and Ahimsa and hoped that a Black Gandhi is the need of the hour in USA. This was arranged as a part of 50th Anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr. visit to India.

Mr. Adil Khan, CEO & President, Amplidyne Inc’ USA addressed the students of BHAVAN’S INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT, Mysore, on the intricacies of strategies to become successful both on the Career & Personal Front and the meticulous way to approach Corporate Culture.

Mr. Frederick J. Kaplan, US Consul for Public Affairs, US Consulate, Chennai gave a glimpse into the concept of higher education in USA with special reference to requirements and procedures.

Dr. Rajindar.K.Koshal and Dr. Mrs. Manjulika Koshal, Professors from Ohio University, USA spoke on “FEMALE EXECUTIVE’S ROLE IN THE DEVELOPING ECONOMY”. The learned professors gave a new insight into the role of female executive with examples from JAPAN, MALAYSIA, INDIA, US and other countries.

Dr. Bala Prasanna, Technical Manager at IBM- International Business Machines, New Jersey, USA and a senior member of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers) gave a lecture on “Working in the 21st Century- Few Tips to survive & thrive”. There was a good interaction after the formal lecture.

Smt. Sudha Murthy, Chairperson, Infosys Foundation inaugurated Business Leadership Forum at BIMM and spoke on the importance of Charity, helping the needy and reminded the students of their duties towards the needy.

US Consul General Andrew T. Simkin, US Consulate, Chennai, delivered the Convocation Address of the II Batch of PGPM students on Sept. 17th, 2009. He complimented India for following the path of Mahatma Gandhi which alone can solve many of our problems. He gave away medals and certificates to the successful PGPM students. Chairman Sri. N. Ramanuja presided over the convocation.

An afternoon at IMTEx-2009 24th January

The students of Bhavan’s Institute of Management were taken to IMTEX 2009 TOOL TECH EXHIBITION on the 24th of January 2009. IMTEX 2009 consisted of CNC Machines and tools in which more than 3000 machines manufactured in seven different countries were on display. The Students were greatly benefitted by this exhibition.

The students of Bhavan’s Institute of Management had a practical exposure to the subject Production & Operations Management through a visit to JK Tyres.They had an insight into the working of a manufacturing unit, i.e. facility layout, plant location; work in progress, planning, role of supervisors, inventory management, use of equipments, total quality management etc.The students got an opportunity to observe the step by step processes involved in manufacturing a tyre.

Manipal Institute of Management had organized a 2 day National Level Fest Kurukshetra on the 27th and 28th of February, 2009.Our students Dimpesh Kumar Jain and Divya Sharma won the 1st place in Finance and brought laurels to the college.SDM-IMD, Mysore had organized a 3 day National Level Fest Naissance from the 8th to 10th January 2009.Students from Bhavan’s Institute of Management participated and brought laurels to the Institute. Kunal Hemdev and Ms. Gunjan Raparia, were placed second in Marketing event and the team got the I Place in the cultural event - Regalio.Bhavan Marshall MBA Programme, Bangalore had organized their annual fest Evigna on 18th and 19th of February 2009.Students from BIMM attended the Fest with full zeal and secured the 2nd place in Finance round.

To encourage sportsmanship among the students, Bhavan has been organizing sports events. This year a Volley Ball tournament was organized by BIM, Mysore. This was inaugurated by Sri N. Ramanuja, the Chairman by tossing the ball. Two teams each from M.P. Birla Institute of Management, Bhavan-Marshall MBA Programme and BIMM participated in the event. The first place was won by BIMM.
