Unit Codes
Kubix’s unit codes consist of two or three
letters, followed by a series of numbers. In
some cases one or two letters may follow
the numbers.
Prefi x Letters
These indicate the type of unit, such
as BU for base unit; WU for wall unit;
BR for broom unit; and so on.
Numbers
The numbers indicate the width of the
unit followed either by the depth, or in
case of wall units, the height. For example
a WU1056 is a wall unit 1000mm wide
and 561mm high. A BU56 is a base unit
500mm wide and 600mm deep.
Suffi x Letters
Any letters following the number code
indicate a variant of the type as follows:
A
B
C
D
E
F - Full height door base unit.
D - Drawer line base unit (units
will be supplied drawer line
unless specifi ed otherwise).
LK - Lockable units.
Unit Dimensions
All dimensions are expressed in millimetres
as shown.
Corner Base Units
All corner base units have centre hung
doors with 110° hinges on 15mm Vista,
18mm Excel and 18mm Esprit. Corner
posts and blanking panels are fi tted as
standard. On corner base units with a
corner post, a white blanking panel covers
the void of the unit. A 600mm colour
co-ordinated blanking panel is fi tted
where corner posts are NOT required –
e.g. when the blank abuts a void for a
freestanding appliance or tray space.
IMPORTANT: Please specify the handing
of the side of the blanking panel when
ordering.
Corner Post
The corner post allows product ranges
with protruding handles to be offset by
30mm in order to avoid possible clashing
of drawer handles in a corner. The corner
post automatically spaces out the units
to the correct size across Dimension A.
However the fi tter must remember to
position the corner unit (as appropriate)
from the wall.
(See page 29).
Roll Edge Sinktops in Corners
Should it be necessary to position a roll
edge sinktop in a corner with a corner
post, then the worktops should be
increased in size to allow for the 30mm
extension. If using postformed worktops,
then two worktops are required as
illustrated on the right.
Please note that worktop B cannot run
into the corner as this would result in a
30mm gap between it and the sinktop.
NB: Sit-on sinktops are only available
for use with 30mm worktops.
L-Shape Corner Base Units
A corner unit with either a shelf or a
revolving carousel. The two doors are
hinged on the end panels and open to
170°. In order to facilitate transportation,
the unit is supplied in two halves and
the carousel or shelf must be fi tted on
site. Full height door or door and dummy
drawer front styles are available.
The dummy drawer fronts are fi xed
to the doors.
Corner Sink Base Units
1000mm and 1200mm corner base units
can also be supplied as corner sink units.
To specify a corner sink unit, change the
prefi x letters on the standard corner base
unit code from ‘CB’ to ‘CS’ as shown in
the example.
Corner Base Units Variations
To specify a corner base or corner sink
unit with a manufacturing variation, suffi x
the standard unit code as shown in the
examples.

General InformationEsprit 18mm rigid cabinets have been tested to and comply with the requirements of BS 6222 Part 2 Level H.
18mm CabinetSide panels, bases, shelves and rails are manufactured from 18mm high density chipboard. Vulnerable cabinet edges are lipped to resist moisture seepage in to the panels. All chipboard is manufactured to comply with BS/EN 312-3 (P2).
BacksAll units have inset hardboard fi tted backs as standard. Backs are inset by 53mm to allow services to run behind.
HingesAs standard, fully adjustable all-metal clip-on hinges are 170° opening. The hinges comply fully with BS 6222 Part 2 Level H, allowing perfect alignment.
Drawer SystemEsprit 18mm metal drawer box system has a 16mm chipboard base and quadro runners. The system has been independently tested by FIRA and successfully meets the requirements of BS 6222 Part 2 Level H. The drawer box is fully extendable and has soft close pneumatic action.
Wall Hanging Brackets Wall unit support plates and brackets are made from 3mm steel. The patented hanging brackets allow 5 levels of adjustment, up or down the wall, by up to 160mm (Patent no. 88216056 registered design no. 1053559).
Worktop BracketsWorktop brackets are fabricated from 25 x 25mm tubular steel and allow worktops to be supported from the wall allowing the same levels of adjustment as wall and base units.
PlinthTall units are supplied with colour co-ordinated 15mm clip-on plinth.
Adjustable LegsTall units are supplied on adjustable legs providing easy installation.
Metal FittingsAll metal fi ttings and screws used in manufacture are plated.
WireworkAll wirework used in the range is chrome, for a tough, hygienic fi nish.
WorktopsWorktops are FIRA Gold Award certifi ed, constructed from laminate bonded to chipboard. Front edges have an application of wax for extra protection against water ingress. Back edges are sealed by wax injection.
Shelf Supports18mm Esprit Units have metal shelf supports.
HandingsMany units are described as left or right handed. Handings should be expressed as if looking at the unit from the front.

Measure 1000mm from the fl oor and mark this point on
the wall. Using a spirit level, draw a horizontal line around
the walls from this point. This is the datum line.
From this datum line, measure down at various points,
calculating the highest point of the fl oor from the smallest
measurement.
1000mm
1.1 1.2
For the positioning of wall units, measure up 1192mm from
the new datum line and create a second level datum line.
Where the smallest measurement is taken measure up from
the fl oor, 705mm. Create a new level datum line from this
point.

Step 1: Datums and DimensionsHaving checked the plot for level and square, commence by marking a level datum line on the wall around the base unit area.
The datum line will provide a level mark for positioning the hanging brackets for wall units, base units and worktops.

Before fi xing the hanging plates to the wall, measure and
mark the end position for the base units, wall units and
worktop ends. This is where the hanging plates will end -
some hanging plates may need to be cut down.
Fix the wall hanging plates with the pre-drilled screw holes
in line with the datum lines drawn in fi g 1.3 & 1.4.
Cut down any overlapping hanging plates inline with end
markings made in fi g. 2.1.
2.1
1000mm
2.2
With all the wall units, base units and worktop support brackets in position check the levels before commencing. Adjust levels using the methods shown in ‘Step 3’.
Wall units, base units and worktop support brackets can now be lifted onto the wall hanging plates. Please refer to ‘Step 3’ for height settings.
2.3 2.4
Step 2: Planning and FittingNote: For safety reasons, please ensure that wall hanging plates are screwed securely into a solid wall or battening in the wall.
Never bend wall hanging plates to fi t an uneven wall, if necessary use metal washers between the wall and hanging bracket.
Fix hanging plates using 2” No. 10 screws and plugs.
Plumbing and Electrical Connections: Height adjustment of units will be impaired if plumbing
and electrical installations are not made correctly. Taps
are supplied with fl exible hose connections. We strongly
recommend that fl exible hosing is used for all wastes and
plumbing work to allow for maximum adjustment.
Tiling and Decoration: Tiling and decoration should
be completed and dry prior to fi xing of wall hanging plates.
It is recommended that wall hanging plates are fi xed on top
of tiles. Tiles should therefore start at 650mm from the fl oor
and extend to 1800mm.

Level H is the performance standard for Heavy Domestic Use, a vital requirement for social housing applications. Kubix 15mm and 18mm kitchen cabinets to BS EN 312-P2 and P3 comply with the requirements of BS 6222 Part 2 Level H, which includes demanding tests to ensure fi tness for purpose.
Cabinet and surface strength As part of BS 6222 Part 2 Level H, Kubix 15mm and 18mm cabinets undergo the most stringent test procedures to certify fi tness for purpose in social housing applications and a long life of unfailing service. For example, the cabinet and frame are subjected to demanding forces, greater than encountered in everyday domestic use, to ensure their strength and integrity. The ability of the rails to withstand sudden lifting is tested, with Level H allowing no component failure. Tests for the strength of the top and bottom surfaces replicate the effect of someone sitting on the worktop or standing on the bottom ledge to reach something.
Shelves, doors and hinges For the storage parts, the strength of the shelf supports and the capacity of the shelves to take a full load with minimal defl ection are stringently assessed.
To make sure they can cope with the constant heavy use, doors and their hinges are tested for strength, wear and fatigue, as well as repeated slamming, open and shut actions. For example, doors are opened and closed 40,000 times for the domestic environment, and 80,000 times for heavy domestic use in the social housing market.
Drawers and handles Drawers are submitted to equally uncompromising assessment, including downward load while open, slam shut and open, the strength of the drawer bottom, and general wear and fatigue. Flaps on doors that open downwards are tested to represent a person leaning on the fl ap. To test the strength of runners, a drawer is loaded and an increasing vertical force is applied to one corner.
Even the handles are strength tested, with no component failure permitted. Bonding of the strip handles to the frontals is thoroughly examined for excellent adherence and water seepage.
Surface durability Kubix frontals have been tested to FIRA gold award standard for durability.
The performance of the surface fi nish is put to the test to ensure stain resistance to day-to-day spillages such as juices, oil and coffee, as well as household chemicals such as ammonia and disinfectant. Impact resistance to scratches and dents is also tested replicating the effect of a heavy pan being dropped onto a surface or a sharp knife.

Care and Attention
UnitsScrews fi ttings should be checked regularly to ensure that they are secure to prevent excess strain on the furniture. Do not place heavy weights on partially open doors or drawers.
Avoid using strong chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Simply use warm water with a mild detergent and a damp cloth to clean. Once cleaned, remove any excess moisture with a clean, dry cloth.
FrontalsFrontals should be treated with care to maintain their good looks and performance.
Never use abrasive cleaners or strong chemicals on furniture. Melamine and laminates are best cleaned with a damp cloth, warm water and a mild detergent.
Do not allow water to stand on surfaces, always wipe dry immediately with a soft, clean cloth. Clean and protect with furniture polish. Prevent marking or scratching by eliminating the risk of contact from sharp or heavy objects.
Worktops - Cleaning stains Always start by trying the most gentle method. If stains persist, work through the following steps, repeating each method if the stain appears to be disappearing.
Step 1. For routine cleaning, use adamp cloth or sponge and a mild soap or detergent.
Step 2. For diffi cult stains apply a mild non-abrasive household cleaner/detergent with a soft bristled brush.
Step 3. If stubborn stains persist, try a paste of baking soda and water, or a non-scratch cleaner such as Cif Active Cream or Flash All Purpose, scrubbing lightly with a soft bristled brush for 10 to 20 seconds.
Step 4. Apply undiluted household bleach or nail polish remover, let stand for no longer than 2 minutes, and rinse thoroughly with warm water. This step may be repeated if the stain appears to be going away and the colour of the laminate has not been affected.
Warning: Do not expose the surface to household bleach for prolonged periods, which may result in permanent discoloration.
Worktops - Cuts and scratches • Always use a cutting board – sharp knives can damage any laminate surface.
• Apply a light coating of a non-oilyfurniture polish to help hide fi ne scratches, e.g. Pledge Clean and Dust.
Worktops - Heat • Never place hot pans, dishes or heat producing appliances directly on worktops.
• Always use a heat shield, hot pad or trivet to avoid blistering or cracking of laminate surface.
Worktops - Special do’s and don’ts Do: Always rinse thoroughly after cleaning – residue from cleaning solutions is the single greatest cause of damage to a laminate surface.
Do: Wipe up spills right away and rinse thoroughly, particularly harsh chemical liquids such as oven cleaners, drain cleaners containing caustic soda, rust removers and toilet bowl cleaners.
Do not: Use acidic or abrasive cleaners – they can damage laminate surfaces.
Do not: Expose the surface to household bleach for prolonged periods which may result in permanent discoloration.
Do not: Apply excessive scrubbing, especially on surfaces with a gloss fi nish.
