He and his father tried to integrate the Maranatha Baptist Church
in Plains, GA in 1965 where he was a Sunday School teacher

At his Inauguration Speech, Carter
proclaimed that the time for segregation
had ended. "No poor, rural, weak, or black
person," he declared, "should ever have to
bear the additional burden of being
deprived of the opportunity of an
education, a job, or simple justice." He
hung a picture of Martin Luther King, Jr., in
the State Capitol Building and worked for
Civil Rights in Georgia. He also worked
hard to improve our Education system.

Accomplishments
• Helped people find jobs
• Added more money to the federal budget
• Helped the environment – created more parks
• Created the Dept. of Education to help children
• Worked on Civil Rights; hired more Blacks and Hispanics
• Worked on Human Rights and keeping the peace to help people in
other countries, such as China, Egypt, and Israel

Habitat for Humanity1984- Jimmy and his wife Rosalyn started volunteering
Helped to build apartment homes in New York city
for 19 families
They volunteer for one week every year.

The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Jimmy
Carter in 2002"for his decades of untiring effort to
find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to
advance democracy and human rights, and to
promote economic and social development".
