Bundamba Advanced Water Treatment Plant, Australia
The plant is a critical element in the
Western Corridor Recycled Water
Project, part of the Queensland
government’s water grid strategy,
aimed at drought-proofing the south-
east area of the state. KSB are proud
to be associated with this project,
which recently received the Grand
Honour Award for Design Project,
Project Innovation at the Interna-
tional Water Association‘s 2008
Water Congress in Vienna, Austria.
The award recognizes the use of
technology within the project, which
has been described as „a technical
masterpiece.“
Replenishing water supplies
Continuing drought and sinking levels of water storage in south-east Queensland
have led the state and national governments to put top priority on increasing the
production of purified recycled water. With Queensland contributing $2 billion,
and the Australian government contributing $408 million from its Water Smart
Australia Program, world leaders in the fields of engineering, construction, water
and wastewater services have been brought in to develop project assets and infra-
structure and, once construction is complete, to operate the required advanced
water treatment plants and associated pipelines.

Fast, reliable, competent
Utilising the reverse osmosis process, the Bundamba Advanced
Water Treatment Plant further treats secondary treated waste-
water to produce purified recycled water, which is then pumped
to the Swanbank and Tarong coal-fired power stations for use
in the cooling process, thus considerably reducing demand on
the region’s drinking water supply. Due to continuing drought,
the delivery timeframe for the pumping units has been critical.
As one of the world’s leading suppliers of pumps, valves and
systems for water management, KSB AG, represented locally
by KSB Australia, has been a highly competent partner. Right
from the start, KSB has provided invaluable support, not only
fulfilling the high quality requirements but also supplying the
key process pump units for both project stages within the
required “First Water” timeframe. Thanks to KSB, the plant
now has the capacity to supply up to 66 mega litres per day of
purified recycled water.
