JSC Foreign Trade Firm KrAZ, being an export subdivision ofHolding Company “AvtoKrAZ”, is a kind of “engine” of thecompany and defines development strategy of the enter-prise, produced vehicles design in conditions of rapidlychanging global automobile market.Today sales efforts of Foreign Trade Firm KrAZ are directedto 16 priority markets in the countries of the Middle East,Asia, Africa and Europe. Our goal is to obtain a total shareof 1% in the markets of these countries with 0.25% annualgrowth and we are resolutely approaching it. Properly elaborated sales politics, carrying out of active pro-motion and exhibition, extension of dealer network, as wellas company maintenance centers network provided FTFKrAZ with possibility to extend the geography of sales. In2006 traditional markets were enlarged owing to Bulgaria,Liberia, UAE, Ghana, Saudi Arabia. In 2007 Poland,Macedonia, Afghanistan, Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria andother countries were newly “reopened”.KrAZ vehicles sales growth in foreign markets is determinedby favourable terms of payment for foreign customers, suchas leasing, factoring, forfeiting etc.Among successful projects carried out by Foreign Trade FirmKrAZ this year is the establishment of joint venture in Polandtogether with Polish company and signing the contract fordelivery of 50 KrAZ vehicles by the end of the year. JV KrAZMotors Algeria found its further development in Algeria;signing the call-off contract for delivery of 100 KrAZ vehiclesper year is confirmation of this development. We have con-cluded a contract for delivery of a large lot to EquatorialGuinea and successfully won a number of tenders fordelivery of KrAZ vehicles to Egypt, Afghanistan, Angola andother countries.A short-term goal of FTF KrAZ is to launch assembling in Iranand India and open joint ventures in Ghana, Sudan, Yemen.Today among KrAZ vehicles the most merchantable in theforeign markets are fifth-wheel tractors (47% of the totaldelivery amount), dump trucks (25%) and chassis (26%).The most popular in the far-abroad markets are KrAZ-65055and KrAZ-65032 dump trucks, KrAZ-6443 fifth-wheel tractor.KrAZ-6322 military cross-country truck and its modificationsis the leader of sales. High competitiveness of this model andthe company itself was proved by successful fulfillment ofthe contract (the largest in the automobile plant’s historyand the third-large in the history of a military-technical col-laboration of Ukraine with foreign countries valued at morethan 110 USD mln.) for delivery of more than 2000 units of

automobile machinery based on KrAZ-6322 to the post-warIraq. The military men of Yemen, Angola, India and othercountries have given preference to this truck.At one of the biggest defense exhibitions – “IDEX-2007”which took place in Abu Dhabi in February 2007, AvtoKrAZtogether with his partner – the “Streit Armored Group”Company has presented a multi-purpose armored KrAZ-6322platform truck “Raptor” that received favourable reviewsof experts. High estimate of Ukrainian trucks resulted insigning of a few contracts for KrAZ trucks delivery to thecountries of Africa and the Middle East.Sales growth was stimulated by a considerable extension ofmodel range and profound vehicles modernization thatimproved consumer qualities, as well as fundamental reor-ganization of work and concentration on the customer inorder to satisfy his needs at most that is to supply him withspare parts and service package: warranty and after-salesservice.Currently the company is working actively at developing ofKrAZ trucks with RH steering, enlarging the range of optionsoffered to the customer.We have adapted the engines with the ecological standardEuro-3 manufactured by the Yaroslavl Motor Plant, KAMAZand Cummins for KrAZ vehicles sets and we offer such trucksto the customer. Recently we have considerably enlargedstandard size range of tipping platforms offered the con-sumer due to completing trucks with 14-, 16-, 18- and 20-cube bodies.KrAZ vehicle served as a basis for new types of special equip-ment, namely, the KrAZ truck with multi-lift equipment, thetruck for patching repair, the truck-mounted concrete pump,and special trucks for the Ministry of Emergency Situationsand shot lighters. For the first time during the “KrAZ” histo-ry the production of the fire-fighting truck and the truckcrane on two-axle chassis was mastered. “AvtoKrAZ” jointly with the “Telecard-Device” Com-pany (Odessa) created field communication systembased on the two-axle all-wheel drive KrAZ-5233BEtruck with 4x4 wheel arrangement.The truck is equipped with 330-h.p. engine Euro-2,1350x550-533 tyres and provided with centralized tyreinflation system controlled directly from the cabin.Truck full mass with communication equipment roomcomplex is 14.2 tons. Truck maximum speed is 80 km/h.

Communication equipment complex(the so called shelter) is mounted onthe shortened platform. This complextakes place of 7-8 earlier applied com-munication equipment rooms.It is noteworthy that similar productsare produced only in 5 countries ofthe world. This complex has a greatexport potential since without it, it isimpossible to control army in modernconditions.

Italian company “Vehicle Engineering” has bought alot of all-wheel drive KrAZ-632 chassis. The presidentof the company, Mr. Marco Tockachelly, has shownhis willingness to accept the vehicles on the spot andtest them personally in off-roads conditions and inthe soft ground.Having completed a test-drive Mr. Tockachelly admi-red high cross-country ability of all-purpose vehicles,their excellent dynamic behaviour and good maneu-verability and expressed his interest in developingcooperation.

To satisfy numerous requests of construction organi-zations, Holding Company “AvtoKrAZ” has brought outto the market of building technology a truck-mountedconcrete pump JXZ 37-4.16HP (“JUNJIN Heavy Indu-stry”, Korea) on KrAZ-65053 chassis with 6x4 wheelarrangement.A new design enables to discharge concrete mix to theheight of 37 m with high accuracy, it saves time, pro-vides conveniences and additional opportunities whenoperated on the construction site. The concrete pumptruck output is 20-158 cubic meter per hour. Concreteintake capacity is 600 l.A powerful multi-stage rotary water pump has outputcapacity of 120 l/m and operating pressure of 20 bar.The pump is equipped with automatic control systemusing radio remote control.

Last year Holding Company “AvtoKrAZ” hasconcluded a contract for delivery of 29 trucksfor the Ministry of Defence of the EgyptArabian Republic (EAR).This cooperation was completed by the cus-tomer representatives’ training in operation,maintenance and operating repair of theKrAZ-6322 platform truck. The Egyptian mili-tary men have received theoretical knowl-edge which they have already applied inpractice in the second half of their training.

The training completed, the representatives of theMinistry of Defence of Egypt were awarded diplomascertifying the acquired qualification level.

Holding Company “AvtoKrAZ” jointly with the companyAUTOKRAZ POLSKA – the exclusive representativein the territory of Poland took part in the InternationalExhibtion of Road Construction “Autostrada-Polska’ 2007”that was held in the city of Kelts (Poland) in May.Annually the exhibition hosts on its area the leadingEuropean manufacturers of construction equipment,trucks, trailers and parts. This year more than 600companies from all over the world took part in it.

Holding Company “AvtoKrAZ” exposition was repre-sented by:n all-wheel drive dump trucks with 6x6 wheel arrange-ment: KrAZ-65032-063 with load carrying capacity of20 tons, equipped with a platform of 16 m3, andKrAZ-65032-65 on wide-section tyres Micheline withload carrying capacity of 18 tons, equipped with12-cube platform.n four-axle KrAZ-7133C4 dump truck with 8x4 wheelarrangement, load carrying capacity of 25 tons and12-cube platform.

Ukrainian heavy trucks are widely known in Polandand enjoy the reputation of reliable and undemandingvehicles, therefore KrAZ exposition aroused a greatinterest among exhibition visitors.The representatives of construction and mining com-panies that had KrAZ vehicles in their truck fleetbought at the times of the Soviet Union spoke respect-fully of their functional performance and stated theyhad not come across a more endurable truck. “A goodtruck” was the most frequent phrase pronounced bythe guests of “AvtoKrAZ” exposition.One of the guests, Romeck Kirichin – a driver with20-years working experience of driving different typesof KrAZ vehicles, said the following:

“The first time I drove KrAZ was in the army, that wasKrAZ-260B fifth-wheel tractor that is used for fueltanks transportation. I had a very good impressionabout that truck. Having a 20-years driving experience

I tested many trucks, but if I were to choose whichtruck I would prefer for work, I would answer withouthesitation: “Surely, KrAZ!” Once at the highway con-struction we had an accident. Primary work was car-ried out by our domestically produced STAR vehicles.A heavy rain started, it lasted rather long and was notgoing to stop. Suddenly our vehicles started to sinkin the mud. Then our chief decided to call for morepowerful vehicles – KrAZ and TATRA from the othersite. The work was continuing for some time. TATRAvehicles did not sustain torrential rain and a heavywind, and run down, whereas KrAZ continued to workconfidently. A foul weather did not grow quiet contin-uing to test the strength of people and equipment andit won – KrAZ vehicles run down. Then our chief wasat loss and pronounced the phrase that I rememberedfor all my life. He said: “If even KrAZ vehicle did notmanage, nobody and nothing is able to work in suchconditions”.

During the exhibition Holding Company “AvtoKrAZ”jointly with AUTOKRAZ POLSKA conducted negotia-tions with management of mining and constructionenterprises that resulted in concluding contracts forKrAZ vehicles delivery. It is scheduled to deliver toPoland not less than 50 KrAZ vehicles by the end ofthe year.Sales growth of KrAZ vehicles in the Polish market willbe stimulated by the established AUTOKRAZ LEASINGCompany (Gutta Bank financial division) that will carryout leasing sales of KrAZ vehicles.

Implementation of theproject will enable to considerably broaden theproduct market.Today Holding Company “AvtoKrAZ” offers its con-sumers vehicles equipped with the engine with theecological standard Euro 3 and 360-375 h.p.manufactured by JSC Avtodiesel (Yaroslavl, Russia),KAMAZ (Naberezhnye Chelny, Tatarstan), Cummins(USA), Deutz (Germany).Vehicles design provides for usage of power-plantsthat meet the Euro-3 requirements of several manu-facturers, hence the consumer can choose vehiclemodification subject to availability of service centersnetwork for power-plants maintenance in the country-importer of the purchased machinery.Among new developments of the year 2007 is thedesign of a new 25-tons KrAZ 7140C6 dump truckof 8x6 wheel arrangement with the engine YAMZ-7511.10 of 400 h.p. and the dump platform of 18 m3.The current year witnessed the completion of testingand certification of the new KrAZ-7140H6 truckchassis (8x6) with 25.0 tons load carrying capacityand KrAZ-6140TE fifth-wheel tractor with 20 tonsloading on fifth wheel and permissible full semitrailermass of 70 tons.A new design is KrAZ-65053 truck-mounted con-crete pump with application of the Korean equipmentof the model JXR-38-5.1 HP.This year a range of special equipment on two-axlechassis for crane mounting, fire-fighting and recoveryvehicles equipment was designed.One of our priority areas is to create vehicles modifi-cations with RH steering, thus, the plant will be ableto offer vehicles in the new markets and presentmodernized vehicles in a new quality in the tradi-tional markets.Owing to application of modern devices and parts, aswell as introduction of breakthrough technical deci-sions, KrAZ vehicles design has been considerablyimproved for the last year. The basic aspects ofdesign improvement are increase of driver’s safety,improvement of his work place ergonomics, andconformation to higher ecological requirements.On the consumer’s demand HC “AvtoKrAZ” startedmounting of KrAZ vehicles with ABS of leadingmanufacturers WABCO, Knorr-Bremse, “Ekran” thatenables to use more effectively braking force distri-bution on each wheel depending on road conditions,thus increasing vehicle active safety.In order to increase KrAZ vehicle operational figuresand provide reliability of the brake system, it issuggested to use Knorr-Bremse air-preparationdevice. This device performs a gas-dynamic andabsorptive purification of the compressed air aftercompressor. Air drying eliminates the possibility of

valves freezing in brake system devices.Updated reducer differential suspension owing tointroduction of additional pins has considerablyimproved its reliability.To provide KrAZ fifth-wheel tractors operation withdumping semi-trailers, it is offered to mount hyd-raulic system on KrAZ-6443 and KrAZ-64431fifth-wheel tractors. In order to perform regulationsof EEC, UN No 55 regarding the provision of operationwith different trailers on KrAZ vehicles, where can beapplied a towing gear of king pin-eye type.On the consumer’s demand KrAZ vehicles can bemounted with electrically heated rear-view and side-view mirrors that provide good visibility in wintertime.The company has developed and produces currentlybodies of various capacities (10.5; 12; 14; 16; 18 and20) depending on types of transported goods.A steering wheel of the new design meets modernergonomics requirements. A new seat design ofthe “Pilot” company with three-points safety belt fas-tening decreases vibroloading, makes the driver’sworking place more comfortable and increases safety.Progressive suspension can be of two types – pneu-matic and mechanical.In order to increase efficiency and safety of truckbrake system, new air tubes with power batteriesare introduced in all KrAZ vehicles models.

GGhhaannaa:: The Republic of Ghana is well-known for its consi-derable potential of logging and woodprocessingindustry. Annually more than 1.6 mln. m3 of timber,such as wawa, mahogany and sapele etc. are expor-ted to various countries of the world.In order to satisfy Ghana logging complex needs,KrAZ-6433 fifth-wheel tractor set was designed at theend of 2006, being equipped with 3.5 in. fifth-wheelmanufactured by the George Fisher Company. Truckspossess higher towing and dynamic characteristicsin comparison with basic models equipped with two-inch fifth wheel.The development of fifth-wheel tractors with 3.5 in.pin was determined by the need of logging enterpris-es in a vehicle that had more possibilities at payloadand towing characteristics. Last year in August thosewho possessed such characteristics started conqueringthe impassable jungles of Ghana. Powerful KrAZ-6443vehicles linked to two-axle pole-trailers of local manu-facturer were transporting logs of century-old finewood through bushwhack. Loaded with gigantic logsof 1.5 m in diameter and total weight of about 50 t,KrAZ vehicles owing to all-wheel drive were easilymoving across steeps, bumpy soil roads of Ghanaequatorial forests. Ghana consumers also noted theergonomics of the driver’s seat PILOT with air suspen-sion and three-point safety belts fastening that pro-vided more comfortable conditions for driver’s work. A huge advantage of HC “AvtoKrAZ” in its stra-tegy of gaining consumer preferences in themarket of African countries is provision of tech-nical support and after-sales service of thesupplied automobile machinery. Providing servicesupport of KrAZ-6443 fifth-wheel tractors deliveredto Ghana in last August, technicians of HC “AvtoKrAZ”were witnesses of the fact that owing to margin ofsafety implemented by the plant designers, the trucksuccessfully sustains even intense overloads. Thenext lot of trucks is delivered to Ghana.

The Motor Showguests were able to observe KrAZ trucks of the 2007model range, as well as historic trucks.Among the new developments of automobile machi-nery presented by Holding Company “AvtoKrAZ” onecould see a 25-tons KrAZ-7140C6 dump truck with 8x6wheel arrangement and platform of 18 m3, a truck forroads surface treatment consisting of the KrAZ-64431fifth-wheel tractor and semitrailer with binding sub-stances distributor manufactured by Nikolaev plant“DorMash”, KrAZ-6140TE fifth-wheel tractor of 400 h.p.with heavy-duty semitrailer, KrAZ-65053 with multiliftsystem, KrAZ-5233H2 fire-fighting truck on two-axlechassis and other vehicles.The collection of earlier reconstructed old-timers – thefirst produced vehicle of the Kremenchug automobileplant, namely KrAZ-222 dump truck, as well as KrAZ-214platform military truck and KrAZ-255B cross-countrytruck – was enriched by a legendary experimentalKrAZ-7E6316 truck “Sibir” (8x8) and KrAZ-260 withhowitzer “Hiacinth”.KrAZ vehicles exposition was supplemented with the

exhibition of historic and modern military equipment ofMorozov construction department, the 110-th Kharkovauto-repair plant and the Kremenchug garrison ofthe military unit A1546, as well as retro-vehicles, fireengineering, buses and motorcycles. Todaywe produce not only heavy-duty trucks, but also rail-way cars, vessels and many other things essentialboth for national economy of Ukraine and many othercountries of the world”.All day long Pobeda square had a feel of festiveatmosphere: the performances of brass band and rallyteam “Avtoslalom”, biker and special forces shows, abig concert starring the comic-troupe “Maski”, TinaKarol and Mika Newton, as well as Kremenchuggroups. That day all children received balloons andmany people who took part in a free lottery left theplace with valuable presents from “AvtoKrAZ”. Thefestival ended up with a huge firework.

In the framework of the Motor Show “KrAZ-2007”Holding Company “AvtoKrAZ” presented a project ofHC “AvtoKrAZ” participation in the rally “Dakar”.The idea of creating a truck that is able to meet thechallenge of any weather, any climatic conditions cor-responds to the project name – “SIMOOM” thatcomes from the Arabian name of a dry hot wind whichis generated in the deserts of North Africa and the Ara-bian Peninsula and entails the strongest sand-storms.Participation in the rally “Dakar” necessitated the elab-oration of technical and engineering documentationfor the creation of a new type KrAZ vehicle of the 5thgeneration – KrAZ 5173PE. This is all-wheel drivesports truck (4x4) with independent suspension of allwheels. KrAZ-5173PE was created specially for opera-tion in all kinds of roads and areas in different climat-ic conditions at the temperature ranging from -450Cto +550C. The truck is able to overcome grades risingup to 320 m and lowering up to 250 m. Fuel distance in extreme traffic conditions is not lessthan 850 km at fuel margin in two fuel tanks theirfull capacity being 900 l. KrAZ-5173PE can overcomepasses up to 5000 m above the sea level and the riverfords up to 1.5 m in depth.The truck has a full mass of 16 tons at load carryingcapacity of 6 tons. The truck has a peculiar arrange-ment. There are four superstructures on the truckframe that are not connected to each other, namely anengine compartment, a cabin, a system compartmentand a wagon.In his front part the truck has the so called “bumperguard” for the protection from slight set-backs.The engine has 2 cooling systems: a liquid cooler infront of the engine and two supercharging air coolersabove the engine that are essential for engine normaloperation in conditions of high temperature in thedesert.The truck is equipped with 740 h.p., 4-stroke,8-cylinder, V-shaped diesel engine manufac-tured by the DEUZ company (Germany). This is ahighly accelerated sports variant of the stock enginethat has been popular among the companies- partici-pants of the rally “Dakar” in the course of 5 years.The cabin of KrAZ-5173PE sports truck is an updatedcabin of KrAZ production vehicles. It is mounted behind

the engine and is located within the truck wheelbase.The cabin is supplied with 3 anatomical seatsfor driver, navigator and mechanic and threepanel boards with its own indicators for each ofthem.Moreover, the cabin has an inner roll bar for crew pro-tection in case of rolling over.The fourth section of the truck is an aluminium wagonwith inner roll bar and opening rear doors. The wagoncomprises a set of tools and spare parts, at least twospare wheels in the wheelholder, tanks for water andoil.Taking into account the specific conditions of “Dakar”,the truck is equipped with sports tyres of the“Michelin” Company (France) with 14.00R20 dimen-sion. Special forged wheels applied in sport trucksKAMAZ-4911 EXTREME were designed for thesetyres. There is a system compartment behind thecabin, it has a powerful safety rail that functions as afixation base for both mufflers with two exhaust pipes,as well as for two air filters with vertical pipes of airintake through monocyclones.The bolide chassis also has its design peculiarities. Amechanical 13-speed gear box manufactured by“EATON” (England) is attached to the engine. For torque distribution from the engine to two driv-ing axles the transfer case of the “ZF Steyer”Company (Austria) is installed. Due to the reduced high gear ratio – 0.89, the truck isable to make up to 165 km/h and when low gearis switched (1.536) the truck is able to move acrossdifficult sections of the road.

The first sequence of the demonstration area is put incommission and at the present moment it is almostready for the performance of a full-scale testing.Design work was started at the beginning of 2006, theconstruction of the demonstration area was launchedby the automobile plant workers on the site of an olddilapidated wheel shop that had not been used for along time.The primary designation of the demonstration area isto serve for new equipment testing, to demonstratevehicles capacities for potential customers, as well asto conduct investigations when creating new vehiclesmodels or modifications of the serial vehicles modelsand mounted on them units and components. Apartfrom the above mentioned goals, a new demonstrationarea will enable to optimize the process of running-innew vehicles which roll off the assembly line.

The creation of a personal demonstration-testing area is the first step of HC “AvtoKrAZ”on its way to the building of a modern certifiedtest center.The “AvtoKrAZ” demonstration area embodiedall the obstacles elements of the world famoustesting areas, such as FGUP NITSIAMT – Dmitrov(Russia), in Bronnitsa and Nizhni Tagil, IDEX (UAE),SOFEX (Jordan). The demonstration area reconstructsthe relief of almost all the extreme roads and enablesto create maximal (in many cases extreme) load on allthe constituents of high cross-country ability vehicles.The demonstration-testing area of HC “AvtoKrAZ” islocated on the area of 10600 m2 and comprises arange of obstacles and special zones which enable toconduct testing of cross-country ability, maneuverabil-ity, vehicles dynamic characteristics. The obstacles arechosen in such a way, as to create marginal (in manycases extreme) load both on the vehicle as a wholeand on its units and components: frame, suspension,axles, steering etc.

KrAZ-65033 negotiates the obstacle “Rolling Hills”(the length of the area is 28 m, the width is 3.6 m, thedistance between hills tops is 6 m each). This obstacleis aimed at checking the vehicle cross-country abilityin difficult road conditions – when a truck negotiatesa chain of rolling hills.

On the “Vertical Wall” at the height of 0.6 m isKrAZ-6322. This obstacle is designed for checking thevehicle capacity to negotiate a big single obstacle.At the international exhibition of military equipment“IDEX-2007 in the United Arab Emirates KrAZ-6322Raptor armoured truck made 5 t heavier was the onlyone among the exhibited three-axle vehicles whichmanaged to negotiate this obstacle.

All-wheel drive KrAZ-65033 (6x6) dumpernegotiates the “Hill of Pipes”: 10 concrete pipesof 0.8 m in diameter make up the hill of 1 m inheight. The section is intended for testing thegeometric cross-country ability of the truck,checking of the frame, the suspension and thetruck axles in the cyclic load conditions.

KrAZ-6322 on “Concrete Humps” – a chain ofconcrete blocks with 1.5x1.5 m dimension and2.2 m distance between blocks (the height ofthe first row of blocks is 0.2 m, the height ofthe subsequent blocks is 0.4 m). This section isdesigned for testing the geometrical cross-country ability of the truck, simultaneously theframe, the suspension and the truck axles areexposed to heavy loading.

KrAZ-65033 dumper for difficult operating con-ditions on the “Multi-step Ledge” – a steppedsymmetrical concrete climb, where the 2 lowsteps are per 0.2 m high each and the upperstep is 0.4 m. The total height of the obstacleis 0.8 m. Tested are the frame, the suspensionand the truck axles.

KrAZ-6322 is tested on the cross-country abili-ty through the “Sandy Area” (the width of thestrip is 6 m, the length is 34 m, the depth of thesandy layer is 1 m).

KrAZ-5133BE overcomes the obstacle “RailroadEmbankment” (the height from the embank-ment foundation to the upper part of the rails is0,9 m). It is designed for testing the geometriccross-country ability of the truck in difficult roadconditions, as well as checking of the frame, thesuspension and the truck axles.

When KrAZ-6322 overcomes the section “Ob-struction from Beams Located Aslant”, testedis not only the truck geometric cross-countryability, but also the steering, the frame, thesuspension and the truck axles in the conditionsof heavy oscillatory loads. 8 concrete beams(0.4 m in height and 0.4 m in width) are lo-cated at an angle of 300 to each other.

KrAZ-6322 rushes out of the “Pool” intendedfor testing vehicles on fordability up to 1.75 m.

KrAZ-6333PE evacuator at the obstacle “UphillSlope” with 200 cross slope (the uphill slopelength is 15 m): tested on the resistance to sidedumping.

What is KrAZ-255B? This is a brand of theKremenchug automobile plant, or rather anautomoblie brand of the Soviet Union. Inthe middle of 80-s of the previous century57 countries of the world were armed withKrAZ-255B. Can any other automobileplant or any other company in the worldbe proud of such a fact?

In 1967 KrAZ-255B started its triumphalmovement across the world. In 1968 theseKrAZ vehicles were first supplied to theWarsaw Pact countries. The first countryabroad that received KrAZ-255B for itsarmy was the German DemocraticRepublic.

KKrrAAZZ--225555BBThe history of KrAZ-255B truck creation is ratherinteresting. In 1961 the USSR State Committee on thedefense equipment worked out and approved thetactical and technical requirements to the militarytruck. The design of this vehicle was charged overthe Kremenchug automobile plant.The truck was completely new for the plant. It had anindependent wheel suspension and was equipped withthe new wide cross-section tyres of alternating pres-sure with 1300x530-533 dimension. Apart from thisthe truck had a centralized tyre inflation system whichcould be controlled on the run by the driver directlyfrom the cabin.The unique tyre was created by three organizations:the scientific and research institute of the tyre indus-try of the USSR, the Voronezhskiy tyre plant and, ofcourse, “KrAZ”. The tyre VI-3 designally permitted theoperation with different pressure ranging from 3.5 atm.to 1.0 atm. that considerably increased the truck cross-country ability in off-roads conditions.When the truck moved across snow, sand and marsh-land, the tyre decompression up to 1.0 atm. increasedits print and contact area by 50-60%. Both models ofKrAZ-253 and KrAZ-255B trucks were tested on thestate level together with the KrAZ-214B and Ural-375serial vehicles from May 1964 to June 1965.The testing results were the following: both new mo-dels of KrAZ vehicles surpassed by their characteristicsthe existing military trucks.At the beginning of 1967 KrAZ-255B was put on theassembly line and the same year it was added to theSoviet Army armoury.In 1967 KrAZ-255B obtained an “arms-companion” –KrAZ-255V fifth-wheel tractor. At maximum 8 tonsload on the fifth wheel, the truck was able to towsemitrailers of the full mass up to 26 tons.The front driving axle of KrAZ-255B was absolutelynew. The application of new tyres, load increase onthe axle required the alternation of the wheel center,the axle case cast beam, differential axles, as well asof all the parts of the equal rotational speed joint. Thewheel center and differential axles were also changedon the middle and rear axles. Shaft support bearingswere forced in the transfer case. The cardan drive wasnew as well. Cardan shaft cross-pieces and yokes hadan increased dimension-type. The truck steering sys-tem was new. Unlike other models that had an airbooster, KrAZ-255B had a hydraulic booster arrangedinto one unit – a distributor and a main cylinder.

The complete family of KrAZ-255B wasestablished in 1969 when in May came offthe assembly line the first KrAZ-255L tim-ber truck – a civil variant of the militaryKrAZ-255B truck. All the three trucks fromthe three-axle all-wheel drive family truckswith high cross-country ability had one andthe same chassis, they differed from eachother only by superstructures: side plat-form, fifth wheel and special equipment incase of the timber truck.

KrAZ-255B/B1 vehicles manufacture wasintensified from year to year. Other machi-ne – building plants of the Soviet Uniondeveloped and produced on the chassisbase more and more new products: variousengineering vehicles, cranes, excavators,airfield and fire trucks.These were military trucks, but at thebeginning of 70s of the previous centuryKrAZ-255B trucks chassis were launchedfor supply to the national economy as well.

Owing to the new steering system, designersmanaged to raise the maximum speed of KrAZ-214Bfrom 55 km/h to 71 km/h. Modernized were othercomponents of the three-axle truck as well, but it isnoteworthy that KrAZ-255B truck at the 19675 kg fullmass was able to transport up to 7.5 tons of cargo.

Being slightly modified, having received newtyres and centralized tyre inflation system, thetruck, in military experts’ opinion, was equatedwith track-type machines by its cross-countryability.

Apart from electric two-tone sound signals, two-toneair signal C40B was installed on the cabin LH side plateof KrAZ-255B vehicle and was initiated by the driver inemergency pressing a separate button.In 1976 all the vehicles of the second KrAZ family,

including KrAZ-255B, KrAZ-255V, KrAZ-255L wereequipped with two-circuit braking system whichenabled to increase the truck operating safety.A new pontoon-bridge park (PBP) was developedespecially for KrAZ-255B truck and was estimated asthe best in the world. A heavy mechanized bridgebased on KrAZ-255B chassis enabled to build a tempo-rary bridge for wheelbase and track-type equipment(tanks) not only through water obstacles, but alsothrough ravines.From 1979 to 1982 the Kremenchug automobile plantsupplied annually about 4-5 thousand of militarytrucks. The highest level was reached in 1981, whenthe USSR Ministry of Defense and the All-UnionAssociation “Avtoexport” “KrAZ” shipped 5591 units ofKrAZ-255B1 trucks.Within this period the Kremenchug automobile plantproduced 197155 units: KrAZ-255B/B1 platformtrucks and their chassis – 160732; KrAZ-255V/V1fifth-wheel tractors – 6957; KrAZ-255L/L1 timbertrucks – 29466.Within 23 years the Kremenchug automobile plant hasproduced and supplied to the Soviet Army, theWarsaw Pact countries, as well as to the armies ofother countries of the world nearly 82 thousand mili-tary KrAZ-255B/B1 trucks. If we take into accountthe fact that in January of 2006 the plant producedits 800-thousandth vehicle, nearly a quarter of theproduced vehicles total quantity falls to the share ofthe famous model.

Holding Company “AvtoKrAZ” was visited by thedirector of the FLN company, the “AvtoKrAZ”representative in Iran, Mr. Hossein Yahyapour.He shared his impressions about the currentsituation in the truck market of Iran and toldabout the partnership.“We began to cooperate with HC “AvtoKrAZ” 1.5year ago. The manager of the commercial andeconomic mission of Ukraine in Iran Mr. Alek-sandr Ivanov introduced us to “AvtoKrAZ” andMr. Yuriy Oblog, and we started working.It was difficult to enter the Iranian market, asthe automobile engineering is very developedin Iran. We have a lot of group companies thatspecialize in heavy trucks manufacture: Iran

Khodro, SAIPA, Zamyad Company, Iveco, Renault andothers. There are MAZ vehicles in Iran, although theylost the market because that did not manage to orga-nize after-sales service and their assembling producescurrently a small quantity of trucks.Having conducted a serious work in Iran, with the helpof the company General Director Mr. Sergey Sazonov,as well as of Mr. Igor Fomenko and Mr. Yuriy Oblogwe won the contract for 36 trucks with a big interna-tional construction company of Iran – Keyson.KrAZ dump trucks will be used in the construction ofroad to a reservoir in the GINA project led by thiscompany in the Equatorial Guinea.This is not a big contract for KrAZ, but on the otherhand, we gained it in a very complicated competition.

We have been working for 5 months under thiscontract. Namely KrAZ trucks were given preferenceto by the company owners, despite the fact thatthey represent BelAZ.Moreover, our partner is a subsidiary company ofKeyson – one of the biggest construction organizationsof Iran which implements global construction projectsall over the world. We are sure that KrAZ vehicles will givea good account of themselves followed by arrangingthe after-sales service. There are prospects to increasegreatly the quantity of the company’s trucks suppliedfor different projects in the world, including Iran.Old models of KrAZ vehicles are well-known in Iran. Ienvisage good prospects for KrAZ vehicles (6x6) pro-motion to the market of Iran. At present, jointly withHC “AvtoKrAZ” we consider the project of establishingthe KrAZ vehicles assembly plant in Iran. Then we willmanage to benefit from the customs-tariff, to reducethe cost by manufacture localization (to install Iraniantyres, engine, cooler on the truck etc.)Today a few construction companies of Iran are inter-ested in KrAZ vehicles purchase.In the nearest future we are planning to open a show-room in Iran”.
