From a distance, single jib cranes stillcorrespond to the classical image of acrane. The vertical column and theupward-pointing jib remind everyone ofthe long neck and bill of the bird withthe same name. First of all, the Kranich is a light-weightcrane predestined for use in areasunable to withstand high loadings: suchas old quays and light-weight cranetracks.

Another excellent feature of theKranich is its flexibility: we are able toadapt it to any requirements (geometry,classification, operating speeds, groundpressures). It can also be equippedwith all available types of load-carryingequipment, from hook via grab tospreader.

Moreover the Kranich is extremelyeasy to maintain. With regard to the jib,for example: the tip can be lowered tothe ground. Thus unimpeded access tothe rope sheaves is possible in this areawithout auxiliary equipment and extraexpenditure. The replacement of theropes is also made significantly easier.The toothed rack luffing gear of theKranich is also very safe and easy tomaintain. Compared with hydrauliccylinders, there are less failures andoperating costs will be saved.

In addition, the Kranich has an excellentenergy balance – due to the feedback ofthe braking energy into the feeding net.Its low primary energy consumption is

even more reduced by means of state-of-the-art power converters.

The Kranich, optionally manufacturedwith a large tubular column or a block-type column, is a cost-effective alterna-tive compared with a crane with artic-ulated luffing jib system. Since 1950 wehave delivered this crane approx. 700times, to 4 continents. It operates veryreliably in those locations, even underthe most varied geographical andmeteorological conditions, whetherthese are sub-zero regions with ambienttemperatures as low as –55°C, or hotand moist tropical regions as high as+50°C or, for example, regions subjectto sandstorms.

01 THE JIB SYSTEMThe Kranich with its low-maintenancejib system is manufactured in three sizesand lifting capacity classes: Kranich 500,Kranich 1000, Kranich 3000.

02 THE HOISTING GEARWe have optimised our hoisting gearthrough decades of development, so thatwe are able to guarantee highest perfor-mance and best availability. These areequipped as standard with compact,high-performance planetary gears ofmodular design. Thus, we achieve weightand cost savings.

04 THE TRAVELLING BOGIESBecause we consider reliability a cardinalvirtue, for the Kranich travelling bogieswe only use proven components fromreputable suppliers. Travelling bogiesfrom Ardelt characteristically have anextremely robust construction with onevery special feature: the driving con-nections between drive and drive shafthave involute toothing. This makesit possible to replace the drive unitswithout problems. Ardelt travellingbogies are modular in design and –as modules – can be combined ontravelling gear rockers. Thus these caneasily meet all requirements resultingfrom the infrastructure of the respectiveinstallation site.

By the way: in comparison to rubber-tyred travelling bogies, rail mountedtravelling bogies are less expensive asfar as purchasing and maintenance areconcerned, because there are no highcosts for tyres.

03 THE SLEWING GEARFrom its use in thousands of cranes,the slewing gear of the Kranich hasshown itself to be a compact and low-maintenance system. It consists of oneor several drive units with planetarygears. The slewing gear can be installedwith a slewing ring in case of a big tubu-lar column or with a block-type columnwith the following special features:a) supporting ring for the slewing rollerrockers and b) step bearing supportingthe whole block column. In both cases,excellent accessibility to all componentsof the slewing gear is assured.

06 THE ELECTROCONTAINERWe install exclusively first-class compo-nents in the modular designed Kranichelectrocontainer. We manufacture thecontrol cabinets in Eberswalde, installthese completely, test them meticulouslyand then deliver these as a compact unittogether with the operator’s cabin.

07 THE OPERATOR’S CABINArdelt operator’s cabin is a tailor-madeproduct developed from standardiseddesigns. We design and build the cabinsin accordance with customers’ require-ments and the operating conditionson site.

08 THE PORTALSThe Kranich portals are precision work.We manufacture these to exactly matchthe prevailing on-site conditions. Gantrygauges of 2.5 – 90 m are possible aswell as asymmetrical portals. Even craneswith hook heights of up to 60 m with
