Dear friends,
This years RI presidential theme is ‘Be a gift to the World’.
As you all know we are members of an amazing international ser-
vice organization that seeks to help all in need without concern of
creed or colour. We are bound by our ideal of service above self
and the application of the four-way test in all that we do and say.
I am a man of few words and hopefully a man whose actions speak
louder than his words. In this year we have some fantastic oppor-
tunities to serve the youth, community, club, international and vo-
cational. From our recent survey at the club meetings there was a
request for more fellowship and hands on projects. The two go
hand in hand and will build our club. This year we hope that getting each of you engaged and involved with
projects and enjoying fellowship with fellow Rotarians while we help those in need.
Please join us in at least one avenue of service and join in as many club activities that you can. My year will be
focused on local projects that combine family orientated activities as with the break from tradition with the
casual family friendly installation high tea. Being a gift to the world and putting ourselves at the service of
others is where we begin to create amazing fellowship.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve and join me in growing our club with great fellowship bonds and
meaningful club activities to build lasting friendships through service projects.
23 JULY 2015 VOL 2
K.R. Ravindran’s life was molded by family,
country, and Rotary. Serving as Rotary President is his way of giving back to each
of them.
“I’m sometimes introduced as a self-made man,” says
Ravindran, a member of the Rotary Club of Colombo.
“You’ve got to be utterly egocentric to believe you are
self-made. Each one of us is made because so many
people helped us become who we are.
One of the reasons I work so much for Rotary is that I
have been helped by so many people, and often you
never have a chance to reciprocate,” he explains. “The
only way you can is by helping others. When the peo-
ple I help ask me, ‘What can I do?’ I say, ‘Go and help
someone else in return.’”
For Ravindran, paying it forward isn’t a fad,
it’s a way of life. His theme for this Rotary
year, Be a Gift to the World, also summarizes
his personal philosophy.
