    Details in the next newsletter.

    NO REFRESHMENTS

    BRING YOUR OWN BEVERAGE!

    Dear Guild Members,

I have really lost track of time. The year 2020 has been very

memorable and at the same time, forgettable for many of us. I

just realized last week that summer is here and I’m thinking, “I’ve

completely missed spring!” Of course, that’s not entirely true but

it certainly has been a different experience. No extended travel

    adventures this spring.

I have been grateful for the fact that we can still visit with all of

our children as well as many extended family members and

friends via Facetime. And I am also thankful that I have several

projects to keep me busy at home, including quilting!. But I do

yearn to see all of you again. Your guild board members have

been working on how we might be able to accomplish that for

our August meeting. Details about how we plan to do this will be

included in the next month’s newsletter. In the meantime, keep

working on your various quilting projects including Block of the

Month, Gifts from the Heart, Pumpkin Patch Little People, the

2020 Quilt Challenge, and your own personal items to share at

Show and Tell. There is lots of time for quilting remaining. After

all, Summer is just starting, right?

    Your Prez,

    Betty

August 10: Denise Stahl “Conversation With a UFO Queen”

Workshop: 12:30-4:30 “Mini Country” with the Quick Curve Ruler. Denise will conduct a 4-hour workshop to overcome your fear of curved seams by learning to use the QCR by Sew Kind of Wonderful. She will provide patterns for the mini as well as a large curve (for those who aren’t fans of minis). Workshop fee: $20; Pattern and Ruler: $15 = $35 To sign up: contact LuAnn Hoover, [email protected] or Pam Russell, [email protected]. Or sign up at the meeting.

Look Forward to the August Program

    • 4 Hour Workshop with Prepwork ( See below)

    • Description – Learn to use the Quick Curve Ruler to make this Chic Country also called the Winding Ways quilt. Cut

and sew curves the easy way with QCR. Participants can choose from either the full size or the mini quilt. The Chic

Country is 57 x 57 inches and the Country Mini is 20 x 20 inches. It is a little more difficult to sew the curves on the

mini quilt, but it takes less fabric. So the choice is yours. The process is the same. You might love it so much that

    you’ll want to make both!

    • Pattern and Ruler (if you don’t already have them) ✓ Full size Chic County Pattern and Ruler - $35 ✓ Mini Country

    Pattern and Ruler - $28

    • Class materials list – ✓ Machine with quarter inch foot ✓ Neutral or matching thread ✓ QCR or QCR Mini Rulers

(available for purchase at class) ✓ Small (28mm) or medium (45mm) Rotary cutter ✓ Cutting mat (rotating mat is

helpful) ✓ 6 x 12 inch ruler ✓ Fine sharpie or other marker that will show clearly on fabric ✓ Med weight sharpie to

mark ruler with cutting points ✓ Purple Thang or Stiletto ✓ Best press or preferred spray starch ✓ For the Full size

you’ll need 15 light FQ and 15 dark FQ, for Mini Quilt - 8 light FQ and 8 dark FQ. Choose fabrics that that go well to-

gether – tone on tone, solid, or small scale fabrics. You won’t need all of the FQ in class.

    • Prepwork – precut some of the squares and rectangles so we can get started with the Quick Curve Rulers right

    away. ✓ For the Full size, cut 16 - 5” x 5” (8 light and 8 dark), 16 - 4.25” x 6” (8 light and 8 dark), and 8 - 4.25” x

    6.5” (4 light and 4 dark). ✓ For the Mini, cut 16 - 3” x 3”(8 light and 8 dark), 16 - 3.5” x 3.25” (8 light and 8 dark),

    and 8 - 3.25” x 4” (4 light and 4 dark).

    Library Corner

This book is a must have for quilters!

Using these charts and formulas, one can easily determine

how many strips or squares a fat quarter will make. Do

you know what size to cut quarter-square triangle blocks

or how much fabric you need? No Math Quilt Charts and

Formulas will give you the answers.

Future Programs September 14: Candy Hargrove

“Do I Have Too Many Churn

Dash Quilts? I Don’t Think So!!”

This program will feature 30 quilts,

new and old, small and large, dedi-

cated to Candy’s love of the Churn

    Dash block.

    Memorial Books

New books have been added to the collection at the Manhattan

Public Library in memory of two of our guild members. Sisterhood

of Scraps was selected in honor of Marilyn Frank. The Complete

Machine Embroidery Manual was chosen in memory of Twila Hoffman. Visit the library when it reopens soon or request a hold to borrow these books and recall with fondness the two guild members to whom they are dedicated.

As they look ahead to Pumpkin Patch 2020, Patty Nelson, Carla Bowman, and

Mary Swisher are focusing on selling the Little People and their sleeping bags

at this year’s Patch, October 2-3. These cute, tactile play people will market

well to grandparents, families, and church daycares. Please do your part to

make this guild fund-raiser a success by making as many as you feel comforta-

ble doing with fun, colorful fabric scraps. If we all made five sets, we would

have a fantastic collection of Littles! Sleeping bags can be made for 2-5 little

people. Plan to sew and stuff and bring your Littles to the September guild

meeting, at which time the co-chairs will be signing up workers for the Patch.

The patterns for the people and sleeping bags were in the June Newsletter

Supplement. Contact Elaine Shannon if you need patterns.
