INTRODUCTION
KSTPS is first coal based power plant in Rajasthan.
It is located ideally on the left bank of CHAMBAL
River at the upstream of KOTA BARRAGE.
Its first unit of capacity 110 MW is synchronized on 17
jan 1983.
It is one of highest power generating plant with
installed capacity of 1240 MW.

COAL HANDLING PLANT
• Is called the HEART of thermal power plant because it provided the fuel for combustion in boiler.
• The coal is brought to the KSTPS from BHARAT COAL LTD.
• There are 14 tracks for transportation.
• Everyday 3- 4 trains of coal are unloaded, each train consists 58 wagons.
• Coal is unloaded from wagons by means of WAGON TRIPPLER

TURBINE
• Turbine is a machine in which a shaft is rotated steadily by impact of steam it converts heat energy into mechanical energy.
![Page 12: Kota Thermal Training report by Abhishk mathur](https://reader037.vdocuments.mx/reader037/viewer/2022102605/554a502bb4c9054b328b473c/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)

SWITCHYARD
The 220 KV Switch yard is the main part of the KTPS it has two buses arrangement with a bus coupled breaker.
There are 11 feeders connected at 220 KV switchyard
![Page 15: Kota Thermal Training report by Abhishk mathur](https://reader037.vdocuments.mx/reader037/viewer/2022102605/554a502bb4c9054b328b473c/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Main parts of Switchyard
• CIRCUIT BREAKER
• ISOLATOR
• CURRENT TRANSFORMER
• POTENTIAL TRANSFORMER
• LIGHTNING ARRESTOR
![Page 16: Kota Thermal Training report by Abhishk mathur](https://reader037.vdocuments.mx/reader037/viewer/2022102605/554a502bb4c9054b328b473c/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
CIRCUIT BREAKER
Circuit breaker is basically a mechanical device used to make or break an electrical circuit under normal & abnormal condition.
A circuit breaker is switched on or off under load conditions an arc is produced in between the breaker contacts.
This arc produced between the breaker contacts is quenching by some suitable medium.
![Page 17: Kota Thermal Training report by Abhishk mathur](https://reader037.vdocuments.mx/reader037/viewer/2022102605/554a502bb4c9054b328b473c/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
TYPES OF CIRCUITS BREAKER
MINIMUM OIL CIRCUIT BREAKER SF6 CIRCUIT BREAKER
In M.O.C.B separating contact of the breakers are made to separate within an insulating oil.
In SF6 separating contact of the breakers are made to separate within SF6 material.

ISOLATORS & ARRESTORS
• Isolators are device which disconnect the instruments from power supply, the isolators provided at 220 KV switchyard are motor operated.
• Lightening Arresters are used in switchyard for preventing from Lightening phenomena and are installed at entrance of switchyard.
![Page 19: Kota Thermal Training report by Abhishk mathur](https://reader037.vdocuments.mx/reader037/viewer/2022102605/554a502bb4c9054b328b473c/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
CURRENT TRANSFORMER
• Current transformers are provided for measuring and protection. All Current Transformers at 220 KV switchyard are BHEL manufactured .
• Designed to provide a current in its secondary coil proportional to current flowing in its primary coil.
• Primary winding consists of very few turns.
• Secondary winding consists of large no. of turns
• Current to be measured is passes through primary winding.
.

POTENTIAL TRANSFORMER
• Used for the measurement of high voltages.
• Primary winding is connected to voltage to be measured.
• Voltmeter is connected across the secondary winding.
