Kororoit Creek Primary School has a zero tolerance for any form of child abuse
29 March 2018
Our thanks to School Council and the Easter Bunny for providing an Easter egg for each child across the kindergarten and school. We hope you have a safe and happy break and look forward to seeing you back on Monday 16th April for Term 2.
A note from our SRC Captains Thank you to everyone who participated in the ‘special lunch’ event this week. $1 from every lunch ordered is going to the Good Friday appeal, that’s an amazing $950! This is going to support the Royal Children’s Hospital greatly! We hope everyone enjoyed the Tabloid Sports, which raised $530, and Easter Bonnet parade that raised $520. That is an unexpected amount of money and we are thankful to everyone in our school community who helped us raise this amazing amount of money, it is deeply appreciated.
Overall with the special lunch, Easter bonnet Parade and Tabloid Sports we raised a WHOPPING $2000

Order your School Photos before 18 April A reminder, school photos will be taken on the 18th and 19th of April. Please ensure that your children are wearing their full summer school uniform, including black shoes or all black runners. It is essential that all children arrive on time to ensure they are part of their school photos as they cannot be re-taken due to the very tight timeline across the day. To order your photo package you will need to visit www.arphotos.com.au and use our unique school code 1804KC515. If you are unable to order online, please contact Arthur Reed directly on 5243 4390.
Please note family orders must be received no later than 11:59pm 18th April 2018. Sports for Schools Thank you for all of your fantastic support! We have already sent 15 bags full of Sports for Schools vouchers to Coles and have many more ready for packaging. Each bag holds approx. 2,500 to 3,000 vouchers and these vouchers will equate to some great sports equipment when the program ends during the holidays. School Crossing As of Wednesday 21st March, the crossing at the back gate on Leichhardt Ave is now actively supervised by a crossing supervisor. Having a crossing supervisor there ensures that children and their parents can cross the road safely and it significantly reduces the chances of accidents. Teachers who supervise that area will actively encourage you to use the crossing instead of alternate crossing points. We ask that you use the pedestrian crossing and help us reinforce the message of safety along with actually modelling safe behaviours.
Enrolments for 2018 will be open in Term 2! If you have a child enrolling for Prep next year you can download an enrolment form from the School’s website; www.kororoitcreekps.vic.edu.au and bring it in next term. Remember to include proof of birth (birth certificate or Australian passport) and a current immunisation statement. Annual General Meeting Parents are invited to attend the Annual General Meeting which will be held on Thursday 26th April at 4pm. Attitude Hunt Term 1 – Week 8 Congratulations to all of our students who, through their everyday actions whilst at school, have demonstrated the PYP Attitudes. We appreciate your efforts! Some of our award winners included: Ashleigh (H12), from Cuthbert House, who demonstrated the PYP Attitude of Confidence when she introduced herself to a Prep student she didn’t know so she could play with her. Kabir (H23), from Goldstein House, who demonstrated the PYP Attitude of Empathy when he assisted an injured Prep student. Joshua (H42), from Leichhardt House, who demonstrated the PYP Attitude of Empathy when he assisted a friend who needed help. SCIENCE Over the past two weeks our Year 4 students have begun using our new STEAM room. There have been a lot of keen scientists who have been using a number of materials and scientific formula to inquire into our transdisciplinary theme ‘How the World Works’. The STEAM room is being used to enhance the Victorian Curriculum aspects of our units of inquiry. The Year 4 students and teachers have been inquiring into different forces and whether they are contact or non-contact. Students have been making hypothesis, testing that hypothesis, learning how to record different results and then making conclusions based on this.

Ride 2 School Day Congratulations to everyone
for getting involved in our first active travel day!
Friday the 23rd of March was Ride to School Day. It was great to see the bike
shed over flowing this year. We saw many families riding, scooting or walking to school and we were so fortunate to
have such a beautiful morning. Raffle tickets were
handed out in class rooms and the raffle draw will
happen in week 9 on Thursday.

Sports Update:
SSV Divisional
Swimming Competitions
SWIMMERS FREEZE AT SSV DIVISIONAL SWIMMING COMPETITIONS!!!! TWENTY NINE students competed at the Divisional Swimming Competitions on March 20th at St Albans Leisure Centre. The weather presented rain, wind and cold temperatures which didn’t dampen the team’s spirit nor their abilities to swim at their best. The results of the day were something to be proud of with many students going through to Regionals. We are proud to report that we have five individual competitors going through to Regionals in all strokes as well as two relay teams. Well done to Nilay, Alpay, Emily, Lily and Shawn and the 9/10 girls (Nilay, Kaia, Kiara and Zara) and the 12/13 girls relay team (Lily, Tara, Ella and Emily). A huge thank-you goes to Sasha for assisting at all training sessions and coming down to support and organise the swim team and to King Swim for allowing us to train in the mornings and during lunch time. It was a fantastic effort by all members of the team. Kororoit Creek wish our competitors all the best at Regionals on Tuesday the 27th of March at South Geelong.
