North Koreans back up to North Korea– MacArthur get reassigned out of South Korea
• 1952 U.S. President Election– MAJOR ISSUE: Korean War
Republican candidate: Dwight D. Eisenhower (Ike)
• Promise to end war if elected• Americans LOVE Ike (WWII)• November 1952: Ike wins election
– Peace talks failed (tried 4 times)– Ike goes to Korea (threaten nuclear)
July 1953: North Korea convinced to settle:
1. Threatened with nuclear action
2. Stalin dies (March 1953)• North Korea no longer has ally
Cease fire on July 27, 1953• 3 years of fighting• Cease-fire (stop) signed• Cease-fire in effect until 3/11/2013
