Culture and History tours Barcelona City Tour Oh, Barcelona, Barcelona… There are good reasons for the Capital of the County of Catalonia, the city which lies between the mountains and the sea to have become one of the major tourist sites, attracting endless tourists from all over the world. On this tour we will meet the major points of interest in Barcelona. In the process you will receive advice and recommendations regarding where to eat, shop and play. We will begin the tour at the Montjuic (The mountain of the Jews), the site of the 1992 Olympic Games, for a panoramic look at the whole city. At the Paseo de Gracia, one of the exclusive and beautiful avenues in Barcelona, we will look at the famous buildings by Antonio Gaudi, Luis Domenech y Muntener and we will visit the Casa Amatller, a masterpiece by the famous architect Puig y Cadafalch.

Now it will be time for a short break in a pleasant café, and then on to a site that has come to symbolize Barcelona - the “Sagrada Familia” Church , Gaudi’s main life work which he did not live to complete. We will end the tour with a walk along the ancient roads and alleys, so full of life and verve, of the Gothic quarter, we will see the Cathedral, the Municipal Square, the Jewish quarter, the famous Ramblas avenue, The Boqueria market and more. We will absorb the local atmosphere, and will try to occasionally get off the beaten track in order to reach those little known spots most tourists miss.

Walking tours in the old city of Barcelona The beating heart of the city of Barcelona is in the Gothic quarter and the two adjacent quarters – El Raval and La Ribera (El Born). In this part of town you will find buildings from different periods starting with the Roman period, two thousand years ago and up to the present day. Varied as the buildings are the people as no less so, to say nothing of the street shows, the colors, the smells...

We will pass along the famous places such as the Cathedral, the houses of government and the Municipality, the Jewish quarter, the famous Boqueria market and more. We will see all these places as well as some of the less famous ones such as the winding narrow streets of El Born and El Raval with their cafes, bars and boutiques. We will visit some of the old and special shops, and of course taste some of the local delicacies.

Price: 48€ per person Duration: 3-4 hours

The Holy Mountain of Monserrat On this day we will go up onto the serrated, tooth-like mountain in the Monserrat range, but only after we stop for coffee and local pastry, which should make a pleasant overture to an amazing day. We will be driven up the holy mountain, to breathtaking views, we will see the statue of the Black Madonna and will then take the funicular up to the higher regions of the mountain to walk and observe the unique rock formations. The Monserrat range, with the Monastery at its center draws many pilgrims, tourists, photographers and mountain climbers. To quote a famous Catalan journalist: "If you see the Monserrat and don't feel a quiver in your body, it is just possible that you aren't really alive..."

Price: 77€ per person Duration: 5 hours This tour can be combined with wine tour in Penedes. The price for the combined tour is 125€ (tapas lunch and wine tasting are included)

Modernisme Walking Tours Those architects, who designed the panorama of Barcelona, transformed it into an absolutely unique city. We will be introduced to the works of Antonio Gaudi – the greatest of the architects – as well as to the creations of other, less known though no less interesting and unusual artists. On this trip we will go to the unique "Eixample" quarter which was built in the 19th century, but which holds some of the best known Modernist creations.

We will admire some of the better known buildings such as the "Casa Milla" and the "Casa Batelló" as well as other amazing creations whose authors took flight on the wings of imagination, such as the palace of "Baró de Cuadras" by Puig I Cadafalch or the "Casa Comalat" by Salvador Valer.

On this trip we will be taking in a great deal of culture and inspiration, and as we don't believe this should be done on an empty stomach, we will invite you in the course of the trip for some light refreshments at a local cafe or bar. Price: 64€ per person Duration: 5 hours

Dalí Museum & Cadaqués

Salvador Dali, the man and the phenomenon was born in Figueres in 1904. During the last years of his life he built a museum in the town, calling it “The Gala Salvador Dali Theatre Museum”, hinting at his theatrical personality, his constant demand for attention as well as at the central part his wife and inspiration Gala, played in his creations.

Dali museum Cadaques

“How can one expect my enemies , my friends and the public at large to understand the meaning of the figures which rise up from me and which I duplicate in my paintings, when I myself, who created them, do not understand them” is what Dali once said in his well known irony, pointed at himself. The visit to the museum, with personal explanations is an unusual experience which becomes intensified upon reaching Cadaques. This village, with its white houses, is where Dali lived, and it is close to the Cap De Creus nature reserve where we will be able to observe the cliffs and wild scenery of the Costa Brava, It is possible to combine the visit to the Dali museum with a visit to the town of Girona. Join us to a great Dali Museum tour! Location and sites of visits: Costa Brava - Cadaques, Cap de Creus, Figueras - Dali Museum

Girona & Besalu or Costa Brava

Girona, which lies along the river Onyar (G pronounced as in George in Catalan, or G the way the Dutch say it for the Spanish) is one of the more interesting towns to visit in Catalonia. Girona has known many upheavals and has come under the influence of many cultures over the two thousand years of its history, due to its strategic position. The Jewish quarter, where the great Rabi known as the “Ramban” used to live long before the Jews were driven from Spain, has been restored, and remnants of Jewish community life as it used to be can be observed.

Girona Besalú

After visiting the old city of Girona we will go on to Besalu, a picturesque medieval village - an ancient stone bridge, the church towers and a stream surrounding the whole give the visitor the feeling that time has simply stopped.

It is interesting to see that here too there are traces of the Jewish life there used to be in the region. The ritual bath which was discovered during an archaeological dig is probably one of the earliest in Europe.

Another option for the Girona tour is to follow it with a visit to Tosa del Mar, a charming village on the Costa Brava whose inhabitants, though no longer fishermen, do partly live as they did in the past, behind the walls of the castle which was built on the cliffs above the sea. The views from the castle inspired many artists, among them Marc Chagall who used to live there. It is also possible to combine the visit to Girona with a guided tour of the Dali museum in Figueres.

The Temple of the Virgin of Nuria, the Patron Saint of shepherds and a very important sanctuary, is in the upper part of the mountain. A trek in the valley of Nuria (Val de Nuria) On this day we will make an excursion to the Nuria Valley, one of the most beautiful valleys in the Pyrenees, in the middle of which there is a lake. The only way to reach the valley is by a special mountain train which climbs the steep incline to a height of more than 1000 meters from the starting point. Along the way, waterfalls and streams can be seen and of course also the Pyrenees landscapes. The final stop is at the church of St. Nuria, the Patron Saint of the valley. Nuria is considered the protector of shepherds, and the valley is a place of pilgrimage for the locals.

After a short tour of the upper part of the valley we will come to the main event of the day – the trek downwards in the valley. We will leave the area of the lake, descending. While on the way we will pass forests, streams and waterfalls and some of the most spectacular Pyrenees views. The trek will take 3-4 hours and anyone who is able to walk reasonably well can do it.
