On December 7th Koko Head club members Lions Ted Aratani , Selvin Chin-Chance,
Gavin Hall, Mana Taylor-Hall, Stanford Ito, Phil Sharp, and Stan Torricer, gathered at

Koko Head Lions 2013 Christmas Party -Selvin Chin-Chance
On Thursday December 12, members of the Koko Head Club with their CIS and guests from support-
ing sister Lions Clubs (Kamehameha, Chinatown, Manawalea) gathered together at the Treetops Res-
taurant in Manoa Valley to celebrate the Holiday season. In addition to the Holiday festivities new
member Lion Michael Gascon was installed by VDG Lion Jim Bryan.
President Lion Selvin and his CIS Frances welcomed all and started off the evening with a Christmas
Carol game. This had young and old engaged in a flurry of competitive guessing. Winner received a
miniature Lady Slipper Orchid. The answers had some shaking their heads in disbelief.
The dinner buffet especially the fish was outstanding as usual and no tummy was left unfilled. The
TreeTops restaurant has been a Manoa institution for many years and it will be sad to see it go at the
end of this year.
Lion Gary Nip repeated his annual reprise with a great job as MC and entertainment guru. He had the
group laughing their heads off with his humorous interpretation of fun filled facts and irreverent
jokes. The distribution of grab bag gifts was also injected with Lion Gary’s usual sense of humor
capped off by his gag gifts. Lions Stan Torricer and Selvin Chin-
Chance were good natured recipients of two of his “gifts.”
Koko Head Lions Donates New Refrigerator to Niu Valley Staff Room -Selvin Chin-Chance
After years of faithful service to the Niu Valley Staff their refrigerator gave up the ghost. Club mem-
bers have also been dependent on it for serving up refreshing bottles of water during club dinners.
A unanimous vote of club members provided the necessary funding to replace the aging refrigerator
and Lion Selvin and Phil were given the go ahead to replace the refrigerator. After a slight delay in
delivery the new refrigerator was delivered to the staff room. This was greeted by a collective sigh of
relief from the Niu Valley office staff who use it for keeping their lunches.
The Friends of Niu Valley parent group also congratulated us on our efforts to support the staff at Niu
Valley. Mr. Brendan Burns, temporary principal of Niu Valley graciously accepted delivery of the new
refrigerator and thanked the Koko Head Lions for their generosity and support of the school.
