Porcupine Press March Issue #1 Paper Issue #10 On Tuesday, February 23, the fiſth through eighth graders parcipated in the school spelling bee. Chloe Koessl, sixth grader, outlasted fiſth grader Nicole Williams to earn top speller. Chloe, Nicole, Madison Sibley, Jeff Yoss, and Traſton Mayhew will be advancing to the county spelling bee held in Frazer on Tuesday, March 9 th . The bee was single eliminaon and in the first round, seventh grader Ryan Padden, fiſth grader Hayley Nybakken, and sixth grader Joe Dunning misspelled a word. In the second round, seventh grader Sandy Viste, sixth graders Shae Fisher, Natasha Chamberlain, and Kira Rosencrans lost their seats along with fiſth graders Taylor Padden, Nolan Viste, and Dalton Kautz. Third round brought the end of the compeon for eight grader Airien Ackerman and seventh grader Ryan Scanlan. Seventh grader ChyAnn Clampi lost her seat in the fourth round. Seventh grader Jeff Yoss and eighth grader Traſton Mayhew lost their seats in the fiſth round. In the sixth round, eighth grader Madison Sibley misspelled a word to take third place leaving sixth grader Chloe Koessl and fiſth grader Nicole Williams compeng for first place. The judges were fiſth grade teacher, Mrs. Pete and sixth grade teacher, Mrs. Bengochea. The spelling bee was coordinated by Mrs. Fisher, and the pronouncer was the assistant volleyball coach, Mrs. Fast. In other words, the mini pre-school they have every year. The preschool is a mini teaching experience to teach various skills to a group of pre-schoolers. The aending pre- schoolers were Sam Kelm, Zevin Kummerfeldt, Tia Dees, and Alyson Melius. The 7 th graders split up into four groups and each group had a focus for their staon. ChyAnn Clampi and Sandy Viste did a story and a puppet show called, “The Three Lile Pigs”. Ryan Padden and Ryan Scanlan did a tesng game that focused on math skills. Jeff Yoss, Jordan Keys, and Trenton Stahl did a play dough staon to teach hard manipulaves. Ilah Carpenter and MyKayla Lauckner had a coloring staon that helped the kids learn how to color. The aendees had some healthy snacks, put together by 7 th grade. “Every year the 7 th graders work really hard to put together this experience and every year we all have a lot of them,” said Mrs. Hanson, who organizes this project with 7 th grade every year.
