The Young Musicians’ Summer Academy has been organized for the past 19 years. It attracts talented musicians, students of music academies, junior and senior teachers working in musical higher edu- cation from all over the world. The Kodály Zoltán World Youth Orc- hestra, whose members represent 14 different nationalities, rehearses during the Summer Academy. After the course the ensemble goes on concert tours both in Hungary and abroad. For the last couple of years they have performed in the Unesco Centre, Paris – France, Mila- no – Italy, Bellaggio Festival – Italy, Bratislava and Galánta – Slovakia, Academy of Performing Arts, Praha – Czech Republic, Ljubljana – Slo- venia, Eisenstadt - Austria, and Romania. The artistic leader and conductor of the orchestra is Tamás Vásáry, who is also world-famous as a brilliant pianist. He holds several prizes and awards conferred upon him for the high level of his activity as an artist. These include the Kossuth Prize, the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary, the Golden Prize of the President of Hungary and the Cruciferi Sancti Stephani Regis.
