1.0 SCOPE

This Standard defines the site conditions, utility supply conditions and units of measurement which shall applied as basic design criteria to KOC Facilities.

2.0 GENERAL

All equipment and designs shall conform to design data specified in this Standard QVf"Ql"lt as modified or supplemented by project specifications or individual data sheets.

3.0 REFERENCE CODES AND STANDARDS

3.1 In the event of conflict between this Standard and referenced in other project documents the most stringent requirements shall apply, unless otherwise specified.

3.2 Any exceptions or deviations from this Standard, along with their merits and justifications, shall be brought to the attention KOC's Controlling Department for their review, consideration and amendment by Standards Division (if required).

4.0 ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

environment of Kuwait, is severe on all eqUipment and must be considered carefully before design and procurement of plant and equipment. It must be assumed that, unless otherwise specified, equipment may be subjected to sand and fine particle dust storms, sand laden winds, chemical contaminants, thunderstorms, heavy and extreme temperatures.

5.0 SITE CONDITIONS

5.1

.1 Summer maximum dry bulb temperature: 55°C, shade.

5.1.2 Summer minimum wet bulb temperature: 2SoC.

Note 1: These dry bulb and wet bulb temperatures shall be applied air cooler design for lubricating oil system of rotating machinery.

Note 2: (i) For dry bulb and wet bulb for all OX (Direct Expansion) Air Conditioning units refer, KOC Engineering Group speCification No. 015-HH-1101.

3 (ii) 47.4°C dry bulb I .S °C wet bulb temperature for the coastal areas of Kuwait (within 2.5 km from the coast) and 4SoC dry bulb I wet bulb temperature the interior areas (beyond km from the coast) during summer for all Chilled Water Air Conditioning units.

5.1.3 Summer maximum average dry bulb temperature: 50°C. Note: This temperature shall be used for process purposes, including inlet air to

air air compressors and diesel engines.

5.1.5 Soil temperature at 1.22 m depth: max. 35°C, min. 17°C. A design of 40°C shall be used for cable system design calculations.

5.1.6 For electrical equipment design, ambient temperature shall be -3°C to 50°C for all indoor and outdoor equipment.

5.1.7 Except for as limited by coating on pipes, the surface design temperature (applicable) shall be 93°C for equipment and installation.

Exposed metal black body maximum temperature due to solar radiation: 85°C.

55°C max 45°C average (1 day) minus 3°C min @ 100%RH.

Note: All equipment and materials shall be suitable for this direct sunlight temperature unless installed in a protected environment. Sun- shades shall be provided where appropriate.

c. Exposed white body maximum temperature: 63°C.

d. Winter minimum dry bulb temperature minus: 3°C.

e. Winter minimum average dry bulb temperature; rc.

f. Winter minimum average wet bulb temperature: 3°C.

Note: These dry and wet bulb temperatures shall be used for winter heating design purposes.

g. Relative humidity maxima at 55°C, 50% at O°C, 100% varying from 6 to 100%.

5.2 Atmospheric Conditions

The atmosphere is generally dusty and corrosive and in some areas may contain traces of hydrogen sulphide.

5.3 Sandstorms

5.3.1 Kuwait is subject to sandstorms, particularly during the summer months.

5.3.2 Air compressor suction conditions are as follows:

a. Ambient air range minus 3.0°C to 55°C.

b. 16 grams dust per 100 cubic foot air.

5.5 Wind Data

a. Maximum recorded wind speed: 38 m/s.

b. Design maximum wind speed: 45 m/s.

c. Summer prevailing wind direction/speed: SE, 6 m/s (Burgan area).

d. Winter prevailing wind direction/speed: NW, 6 m/s (Burgan area).

e. Prevailing wind direction/speed: NNW, 6 m/s (North Kuwait).

f. Summer prevailing wind direction: NNW (North Kuwait).

g. Winter prevailing wind direction: SSE (North Kuwait).

5.6 Rainfall

Kuwait is subject to thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.

a. Annual maximum: 200 mm.

b. 115 mm/h, falling uniformly for 30 minutes.

5.7 Ground Elevations

Kuwait ground elevations above lowest spring tide (LST) vary between 5 m and 150 m above sea level.

5.8 Barometric Pressure

a. Average: 754 mmHg.

b. Maximum: 769 mm Hg.

c. Minimum: 741 mm Hg.

5.9 Topography and Vegetation

5.9.1 Generally, gradual changes in elevation. Sand desert with few bushes.

5.9.2 A topographic survey report will be provided for the selected sites of the Facilities, which will include ground elevations and other topographic data.

5.10 Soil Data

5.10.1 Sand mixed with fine gravel and/or silt and some rock out-crops.

5.10.2 A soils survey report will be provided for the selected sites of the Facilities, which will include soils data.

5.10.3 Soil resistivity for use in cable designs shall be 2 Km/w.

5.11 Seismic Data I (Rev. 2) I

5.11.1 As Kuwait falls within seismic probability zone 1, seismic condition should be considered (if required) in the design in accordance with Uniform Building Code, Vol. 2 with

a. Zone factor (Z) = 0.075.

b. Site coefficients (S, or S2) = 1.0 to 1.2 depending on soil condition at Site.

Note: In Kuwait, the seismic condition will not govern generally over wind induced load condition in design for most cases, except for high rise buildings, tall or high mass structures, large diameter storage tanks and very heavy equipment

5.12 Tidal Data (Arabian Gulf)

Datum: Low water at spring tide, 0 m; High water at spring tide, 3.5 m.

6.0 UTILITY SUPPLY CONDITIONS

6.1 Electrical supply voltages are in accordance with the Recommended Practice entitled "Electrical Design Installation and Testing."

6.2 Plant Air: Pressure 8.5 barg or 850 kPa @ Air Dryer discharge Temp 65°C

6.3 Instrument Air: Pressure 8.5 barg or 850 kPa @ Air Dryer discharge Temp 65°C

6.4 Nitrogen: (Bottle supply)

6.5 Potable water: Pressure 3.5 barg or 350 kPa Temp 46°C

7.0 UNITS OF MEASUREMENT

7.1 The SI system of units is the preferred system to be used for designs and drawings. All calculations, documents and drawings are to be presented in SI units as shown in the following table:

8.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE

The manufacturers shall operate a quality system to ensure that requirements of this standard are achieved. The quality system shall preferably be based on the ISO 9000 series of standards and the manufacturer shall demonstrate compliance by providing a copy of the accredited certificate or the manufacturer's quality manual. Verification of the manufacturer's quality system is normally part of the prequalification procedure, and is therefore not detailed in the core text of this standard .

9.0 DOCUMENT ATION I (Rev. 2) I

9.1 General

9.1.1 All correspondence, instructions, drawings, data sheets, design calculations or any other information shall be in the English Language. In the case of dual languages, one language shall be English.

9.1.2 All dimensions, units of measurements, physical constants, etc. shall be in SI units, unless otherwise specified.

9.1.3 All documents (texts, specifications, data sheets, methods, drawings etc.) shall be provided with electronic files in the approved softwares (MsWord, Excel, Auto Cad etc.). Design calculations shall be submitted in the approved and widely used softwares, agreed by KOC.
