Petrel TIPS&TRICKS from SCME&P SOLUTIONS
Well Sections in *Petrel 2015 – Part 2
Since Release 2011, there have been major changes to the Well Section feature in Petrel, including a few new features added in Petrel 2015. This is the second in a series of TIPS&TRICKS about the new changes for Petrel 2015.
This TIPS&TRICKS will explore how to:
Use curtain sections to allow a Well Path to be followed within the X‐Section
Collapse vertical wells so the deviated tracks can better be seen
Swap wells in single‐well Well sections

Allows a Well Path to be followed within the X‐Section
1. Create or activate a Well Section 2. Open the Settings of the X‐Section. Go to the Definition tab and the Hinges sub‐tab

Collapse Vertical Wells
Collapse the Vertical tracks in a Well Section to clear the view to be able to see Deviated tracks
1. Create or activate a Well Section with both vertical and deviated tracks 2. Even if the only vertical track is an Index track, it can still be in the way of viewing
3. Open the Settings of the X‐Section. Go to the Definition tab and the Hinges sub‐tab 4. Click the Wells to collapse 5. Un‐check the box in front of Use default in the Vertical display area 6. Check the box in front of Collapse to vertical line 7. Click OK

Swap Wells
Swap one well for another in a one‐well Well Section
1. Open a 2D, 3D or Map window and display wells in it. 2. Open the Tool Palette with the X‐section editing group active
3. Click on the Swap single well in section icon 4. Click on a Well and a new X‐section is created
5. Click to create a new template or use an existing one 6. Click OK 7. A new Well section window is created with the well using the chosen template
