6mm (US 10) double pointed needles, 6mm circular needle 40cm (16in), 5mm (US H/8) crochet hook
GAUGE10 x 10cm (4 x 4in) = 13 sts and 18 rows in st.st. on 6mm (US 10) needles.
NOTEThe earflaps are knit back and forth and then sts are CO between them for the front and back of the hat and then knitted in the round.
HAT
Earflaps: CO 5 sts with color A on 6mm needles. k2
rows in garter stitch (both sides knit). Inc 1 st at the
beginning and end of every other row (1 st after the
first st and 1 st before the last stitch of the row, 6
times => 17 sts. Knit in st st for 19 rows from the
beg, ending on the RS. The colorwork patt can be
knitted following the chart, remember to have the
strand of wool at the front when knitting the WS.
Knit 2 earflaps
Crown: CO 13 sts (back), knit across one earflap,
CO 23 sts (front) and knit across second earflap =>
70 sts. Join in the rnd and knit one rnd. Knit the
stranded patt from the chart. Make sure the
placement of the pattern matches the patt on the
earflaps charts. Knit 1 rnd after completing the
chart. Now knit the star decrease: *(k8 sts, k2tog) rep
from* to end of rnd. Continue dec every other rnd until
7 sts remain. The number of stitches decreases by 1 st
on every dec rnd. Break the yarn and thread it through
the rem sts. Weave in ends and crochet a rnd of
double crochet aound the edge of the entire hat.
