Brothers As I heard Father’s homily about the Pharisee and the Tax Collector today (10/28/07) I thought “what a good lesson for us all!” As Father said we all have a bit of the Pharisee, but we also have a bit of the Tax Collector in us. Jesus came to tell us how to live and what to live for. Now 2000 years later He is forgotten by many. Many are neither the Pharisee nor the Tax Collector, they simply do not care. We as a council have a great opportunity to remind them of Jesus, why He came and why He died for them. We as a council have undertaken to do this by a campaign of signs that say “Keep Christ in Christmas.” These yard signs and window-cling-on signs are available for sale to all interested parties who would like to show their support for Jesus Christ and His mission. Yes, the mission of Christ continues today as much as it did 2000 years ago and this is a good way to show that we are with Him. The Yard Signs are $5 each and will be available in the back of the Church after masses, and at the breakfast on Nov. 4 th . You can also call me and I will make sure that you get the signs that you need for your yard and the yards of friends and family. October 7th – Anointing of the sick Breakfast. Our council cooked French bread and sausage under the chairmanship of Bro. Dale Fraser. After the 9:45 mass, we fed about 100 people who were either the anointees, sponsors or their families. The event came through with great ease – thanks to 16 brothers who showed up and help. Our council thanks all of you very much.

Oct. 13th – Our council hosted a Barbecued Steak Dinner for the 4th degree exemplification ceremony candidates, state officers, wives and guests October 13th at the gymnasium. There were 13 new members including two from our council. Tom and Ann Barrie, Ollie and Connie Clausing, Ernie Cook, Dwayne Fellis, Jason Sargent, Wesley Woods, Eugene Melvin were there to make sure the dinner were perfect just as ever. Our Council THANKS you! Present during the ceremony as well as the dinner were 4th degree State Master James Gay, State Deputy Dennis White and his wife, District Master Andy Robinson and his wife.

October 19th, 20th and 21st – Parish Harvest weekend. It was reported that the dinner-dance at the Lakeside Gardens was a huge success, great music and food and again behind the scenes was our very own Charlie Marino, Deputy Grand Knight. The dinner auction chaired by Cheryl Von Arx, wife of Andre went on without a hitch. And of course there was our Grand Knight Joe Wiggins and his wife Gloria selling scripts, while Randy Paden and Charlie Marino dispensed the drinks. While all these were going on, Joe and Betty Egner handled the Bingo board. The council has decided to donate a flag pole kit and installation again this year which brought $300 for the church. Fr. Woods and Fr. Sirrianni were there to charm everyone. Great job Brothers (and your wives).

SPECIAL THANK YOU TO ….. • The Knights of Columbus who have worked tirelessly in numerous ways to raise money

to pay for this costly repair (water line/sewer/parking lot repair). Our wonderful Knights are always helping St. Henry Church, not only monetarily, but in many, many other ways as well. Please be sure to thank them for all their hard work and support of this Parish.(Excerpt from the St. Henrys Sunday Oct. 28th bulletin).

Scouting NewsThe Wonderful World of Scouting is alive and well and

thankful we have a Great Chartered Organization! Thank you Knights!

The Cub Scout Pack has, like always been real busy. The Pack conducted a great service project this month clearing brush and getting slash piles ready to burn for an old farmer that needed a hand. They took a neat trip to a Pumpkin patch out on Sauvie Island..a good time was had by all.

The Webelos dens all went camping up at Butte Creek this October. It rained enough to build an ark, but the boys did great.

The Boy Scout Troop is active. Many of the boys in the Order of the Arrow have been real busy. They all did service to the District Campout by hosting and staffing the Webelos District Campout. They also went on a ceremonies retreat. They did 8 hrs of service up on Scouter’s Mountain, clearing brush and repairing tent platforms so the Cub Scouts will have a great summer camp experiences.

The rest of the Troop camped with the Webelos last month, braving the elements and teaching the young boys how to cook, do first aid, tie knots, and build fires. Last September the Troop did a 25 mile Backpack trip on the old Barlow Road Trail (3530) up on Mt. Hood. 17 boys and 4 adults made the trip. We hiked for 3 days camping 3 nights along the trail. The boys really tested themselves along the way, but finished strong and are ready for the next adventure.

We would also like to report that Brother Perry Hopkins has completed his work for his Woodbadge. Perry has earned his woodbadge Beads. This is a great accomplishment and will help the Troop for years to come.

Thanks again Knights!Submitted by: Jerry Schleining Jr., Scoutmaster

The $550 Lowe’s Card was raffled October 7th, during the Anointing of the sick Breakfast. The winning ticket was pulled by Brother Shane Tercek’s son and the winning name is JANE ALBI of 2507 A NE Rene, Gresham with the help of Brother John Freuler. She was not present so Brother Glenn Zmuda, Treasurer called her phone number and left a message. Congratulations to Jane Albi of our parish.

Brother Eugene Melvin was at the last breakfast for the Anointing of the Sick and sold some of the “Keep Christ in Christmas” signs. Let us help our council propagate this evangelism to strengthen our Christian faith. Please call either Bro. Eugene at 503 491 8725 or Bro. Harvey Nolting at 503 667 7985 or Grand Knight Joe Wiggins at 503 667 0716 if you want to purchase or to help our council sell the signs. The signs cost $5.00 each and $1.00 for the window stickers.

Nov. 4th First Sunday Breakfast, doors will open at 6:30am to set up chairs and tables. We will need all the help we can get.

Eugene Melvin Edmund & Harriet Rice

Congratulations and thank you to Eugene and the E. Rice family for their zealous commitment to the Knights of Columbus.

In 1892 a Boston-based youth magazine published a 22-word recitation for school children to use during commemoration of the 400th anniversary of Columbus’ discovery of America. Under the title “The Pledge to the Flag”, the composition was the earliest version of what we now know as the PLEDGE OF ALLEGUIANCE. The last change in the Pledge of Allegiance occurred on Flag Day, 1954 when President Eisenhower approved adding the words”under God”. As he authorized this change he said: “In this way we are reaffirming the transcendence of religious faith in America’s heritage and future; in this way we shall constantly strengthen those spiritual weapons which forever will be our country’s most powerful resource in peace and war.”
