It honors me to have been your Grand Knight. Thank you for your wonderful support. May is the month of our Lady, our “Queen of the Knights”, when special devotions are held. Our parish will have a “May Crowing” on Sunday, May 13th honoring our Blessed Mother. Please keep our Queen in your prayers. We lost a beloved Brother, Donald Harris, an exemplary Knight and Catholic Gentleman. Brother Donald was a wonderful Knight of Columbus, very active and did so much to honor the K of C with his devotion to his duty, a true advocate for the principles we all stand for. He will be missed by all. Keep Brother Donald in your prayers. We all learned that Father Al will be leaving our Parish to start a new chapter in his life as a Pastor at Queen of Peace in Gainesville. Father Al you enriched every Brother Knight’s life as our Chaplin and Pastor. We will be forever grateful for all you have done for us and our parishioners. We wish you all the best as you move on to a new parish. I’m sure every parishioner of Queen of Peace will love you as much as we love you. We will forever keep you in our prayers. We will miss you, your wonderful sermons and your musical talent. It has been an honor to have served the K of C with you this fraternal year. “God is good all the time.” We had a very busy month and thank you for your efforts in our many activities and events. Our Council supported the Santa Maria del Mar Church Rummage sale that took place from Sunday, April 8th through Saturday, April 14th. Many of our Brothers worked each day to help with this special fund raiser. Brother Pat Mulvihill’s, our DGK, wife Jacque was the leader of this very successful event. You are commended for volunteering to help Jacque, our Brother’s wives, her parish helpers and Kim Cazzaniga’s Life Teen group who did so much to support this wonderful fund raiser. The proceeds will be used to support our parish and our spectacular Teen Group. This was a family event for many who were helping. Your efforts are extremely appreciated by me and welcomed by all involved. Brother Knights helped Whispering Meadows Range on Saturday, April 14 install and repair fencing. Thank you for helping them as this ranch enriches the lives of those with disabilities and special needs through recreational, educational, and equine-assisted programs. I had the pleasure of attending the check presentation for the Trail Transition Program with a group of dedicated Knights on April 11th. This program helps train and support young students ages 18-22 years old to find jobs to fit their skills of challenged young people. Our donation was possible because of your help with our latest Tootsie Roll drive. Thank you. On Saturday, April 21st our Council hosted a very successful Family Pasta and Karaoke Night to support the Alpha Women’s Center. This event was arranged by our Treasurer, Brian Taylor, who did a fantastic job planning this event. Thank you everyone who helped in any way - from the tickets sellers, the culinary team, to the hall setup team and clean up team. Your efforts are very much appreciated. A Flagler Beach cleanup was conducted on Saturday, April 21st by our church Environmental Committee leader Hugh Bowman. Thank you, Brothers who helped with the beach cleanup to keep the beauty of our famous Flagler Beach. A shoe drive was held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton at all masses on Saturday, April 13th and Sunday April 14th for the Flagler County Education Foundation S.T.U.F.F Bus program to supply shoes and sneakers for students of Flagler County. Thank you to Brothers who helped with this event. Father Al thank you for your inspiring words at the 9am Sunday Corporate Communion Mass on April 29th. This was another wonderful turnout of our Brother Knights who filled the front of the church with a beautiful ‘Sea of Green’. I thank all our Brothers who attended this special mass. Thank you, Jane for the delicious breakfast that was served after the Mass in the church hall that was enjoyed by everyone. I thank anyone who helped with this special event. Brother Joe Abitante, thank you for your check presentation from this year’s church cruise to Father Al and our parish. Upcoming events in May include: Bingo every Tuesday in the church hall; First Friday Communion Breakfast; the 50’s Sock Hop Dinner Dance on May 19th at 6 pm and the hall setup on Saturday at 1:00pm before the dinner dance. Help our church Respect Life and council Pro-life committees with the Baby Bottle Campaign on Mother’s Day on May 13 th & 14 th at all masses. Bingo season will be ending May 29th. Thank you EY and the dedicated Bingo Team for a great season. Many new Brother Knights joined in each week to help with the many Bingo tasks. A special thank you to Brothers Stan and Jim for the wonderful lunch served each week showing unity and fraternity in their team work. Our Steering Committee created the slate of officers list for nomination to be elected officers for the new fraternal year beginning July 1, 2018 and ending June 30, 2019 and was published for three months. Brothers, thank you for those who purchased or sold books of tickets to support the Florida State Charity Raffle. All 180 books of tickets have been sold! For each book we sold, our Council received $6 per book. Charity is our first principle and I sincerely appreciate and thank you for your efforts. Good luck in winning one of the top prizes in the final drawing on May 26, 2018 at the Annual Convention Dinner in Orlando, FL. Thank you, Brothers, for all you did last month helping with our activities and events. I’m very much appreciative of your efforts in everything you did to proudly support our principles of charity, unity and fraternity.

Brothers, may we pray for those sick or in distress, our deceased Brothers and pray to God to protect us from harm and evil and to unite and heal the world’s unrest into peace and harmony. Mary, Queen of the Knights, please keep our council strong, bless us, as we pray for your guidance and support to help us as we grow the Knights of Columbus in our principles of charity, unity and fraternity. Brothers, thank you for your support and may God Bless you all. Vivat Jesus, Tony

Deputy Grand Knight - Patrick Mulvihill

Worthy Brothers,

May promises to be a very busy month for our Parish and Council #10514. During this month there will be First Communion, Confirmation, May Crowning, Election of Officers for Council

#10514, Bingo, the annual Sock Hop, the Respect Life Baby Bottle Campaign, and let’s not forget Mother’s Day. Please read further in the newsletter and the Parish Bulletin for dates and times of these events.

A couple of weeks ago, I was very privileged to present a check to the TRAIL Transition Program. The money that was donated to them came from our Council’s work in the last Tootsie Roll Drive. The TRAIL Transition program is designed for students with special needs between the ages of 18 – 22. The focus of the program is training the students for employment. Special thank you to Grand Knight Anthony Gasparino, and Brothers John Fisher and Mike Boullion for joining us. The students and staff were very appreciative and when asked what they are going to do with the money, they all said they were going to

buy a curriculum that will help them learn employability skills (see top of page 7 for photos).

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to all my Brother Knights who came out to help at the Parish Rummage Sale! Without your help, it would not have been a success. This event earned $10,017 which will go toward the youth of our Parish in their Catholic Education activities. Brother Knights helped with the set-up, accepting donations, selling items, clean-up, cooking breakfast for the volunteers, and grilling hamburgers and hotdogs! GREAT WORK! You certainly demonstrated the principles of charity, unity, and fraternity.

Brothers, please continue to pray for our country to become united and to protect us all from harm and evil. Also, please pray for those sick or in distress and our deceased Brothers.

Mary, Queen of the Knights, continue to bless us as we seek further growth in our principles of charity, unity, and fraternity.

Vivat Jesus, Pat

“Why should I become an Insurance Member?” On occasion, a brother Knight will ask me this question. The obvious answer, of course, is because of your insurance need! Insurance need aside, what are some of the other

advantages to being an insurance member? Let me name a couple: Your financial participation helps fund the Order’s

charitable activities. You retain the right to purchase additional KofC

products, regardless of membership status. Your spouse has a “Spousal Right to Purchase” any KofC

annuity or insurance product, for which she qualifies, for one year after your death.

Our Order is among the highest rated life insurers in North America. AM Best has rated the Knights of Columbus with their highest rating for over 40 consecutive years. Our current rating of “A++, Superior” is a testament to our track record for excellence and security.

Since the year 2000, insurance in force as grown from $40 billion to $110 billion and our assets have increased from $8.5 billion to $25 billion. During these years we have paid out more than $5.3 billion in dividends and more than $4.3 billion in death benefits. That’s nearly $10 billion in dividends and benefits. Let’s talk soon about how “Insurance for Brother Knights by Brother Knights” can bring peace of mind to you and your family. Victor Silva, FIC, MDRT

Youth Program May 2018

This is the time of year when the students of Flagler County are studying for year-end finals and planning for the next year of their education or planning for a new experience of a college or technical education for high school graduates.

The youth programs become secondary and it becomes a time to prepare and plan for the next school year. I will be asking our council to support the students of Flagler County by coming out to help at our events. We need a “Sea of Green” at these events to show the students what

the Knights of Columbus does to support them and hopefully this will encourage them to become to become Knights in future years as they mature into young adults. I am also looking forward to your support for the youth programs by helping or attending our events. Thank you and God bless you all. Tony Gasparino, Youth Director

Flagler County School Stright/Trails Transition Check Presentation

Spiritual Adoption Program

KofC 10514 members, under the direction of Pro-Life Chairman Duane Berreth, assisted the Santa Maria del Mar Respect Life Committee in the distribution of over 500 Spiritual Adoption Prayer Cards. The simple prayer of Archbishop Fulton Sheen – “Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the unborn baby that I have spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion.” is said daily for 9 months. The program will end at Christmastime with a ‘baby shower’ benefitting Alpha Women’s Center in Bunnell.

New Ultrasound Machine for Women’s Resource Center (Palatka)
