Dear Brother Knights,
Brothers, we once again find ourselves in the midst of summer and have most
probably already made plans for what we will do in these warm glorious months.
I hope you all have a good summer and take the time to spend with your family and
friends.
On June 30th
I ended my term as Grand Knight of this wonderful organisation and
this outstanding council. We have achieved and gained a lot both spiritually and our
overall performance. It was a term that saw its highs and its lows; we did well at the
last two BC and Yukon Conventions and came away with a truck load of awards and
trophies. It really boosted our ego and gave us the energy to go forward and do more
as Men of the Knights of Columbus. On the low side we bid farewell to quite a few
brothers that the Lord called to his vineyard and we will constantly miss them. We
also had to bid farewell to brothers who have done a fantastic job in serving their
council but had to call it quits as being active members due to age creeping up on
them. We will constantly pray for their good health.
I have one last appeal to my brothers of this council. Please take a few minutes and
sit back and think, What am I doing personally as a Catholic Man? What have I
done to make a difference in this world? If the answer is I go to church on Sundays
and take my family to church and contribute to the Sunday collection….. then I
would say, so do all other catholic men. As Knights we should all be doing more
and try going that extra mile. We need to get out of our comfort zone and help our
community and parish. I have heard many a times “I don’t have the time or I will do
more when I retire”, let’s not put off being a better Catholic for later. We have so
many programs where you can easily fulfil being a better Catholic and a true Knight
of Columbus. We have never turned away anyone who wants to help, so please take
the first step forward and we will walk with you all the way.
I and my family would like to thank you all for your invaluable help and support we
received during these last two years. For the number of hours many have put into
making all our programs doable and successful. For coming out time and time again
to setup, cleanup and take down at our events. For your wisdom and know-how and
your love to share and spread God’s Word through your work and fellowship.
God Bless.
Vivat Jesus!

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You !
As we come to the end of the Fraternal
Year 2014, we are so thankful for so
many things in our lives. We have come
to know so many members and their
families on a more personal level and
have shared some very beautiful and tender moments with you all.
This has been the fastest 2 years on the council, there were some
challenging moments, taking chances and riding with the flow of sheer
instincts, but always knowing that we had the full support and backing of
the team behind us. We are so blessed to have been surrounded by so
many generous people.
We specially would like to thank the Ladies of Council 6855 for your
continuous friendship, support and assistance, not forgetting your know-
how and expertise in so many areas and being there when it counted the
most. Your eyes for detail and perfection in organizing every event with
your talent and personal touch has been noticed by every State Officer,
State Deputy and their ladies whenever they have attended any of our
functions, not to forget our Past District Deputy, our General Agent,
Field Agents and other visitors who enjoy every time they visit our
council events.
May God Bless you all and continue to shower you with his blessings.

FIELD AGENT’S MESSAGE
Jose P. Cabalu, FIC, CHS Field Agent
Annuities: More Flexible Than You Might Think
Annuities are easily misunderstood, in part because of their name. When you “annuitize” the money in your annuity (the money you’ve paid in, plus the interest it has earned), you’ve chosen to receive monthly payments for life, or for a fixed period.
However, annuitizing this money isn’t your only option. You may also treat an annuity like a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC). That is, you can use the annuity as a way to accumulate savings and earn a steady interest rate. You can make withdrawals from the annuity for any reason, although you may then owe income tax on some, or all, of the withdrawal amount. And, if you do choose to annuitize, you also have several payout options.
The point is, these products are flexible enough to serve a variety of needs.
Contact me if you’re interested in setting up an annuity as an RRSP, spousal RRSP, RRIF, a non-registered account, or a TFSA account
Contact me today to schedule a meeting. I am at 778-837-2317 or [email protected].

We held our Clergy Appreciation Dinner on Saturday June 14 at the Mayfair Lakes Golf and Country Club. We
were a group of 20 including Brother Knights, Spouses and Clergy. This was also an opportunity to say ‘Thanks’
to our departing clergy members namely Rev. Fr. Edwin Kulling and Sr. Guadalupe who will be leaving us shortly
to take up their new assignments. We wish them all the best and will miss them dearly. At the same time we
showed our support to Msgr. Dennis Luterbach and Sr. Maureen Theresa for all that they are doing in our parish.
The dinner and dessert was excellent and we all had a wonderful and memorable evening.
A big ‘Thank You’ to all who came out and made this a successful evening.

We held our Corporate Communion Mass and Joint Council Brunch on Sunday, June 15th which was also Father’s
Day. We had a good turnout of members for the 9 am Corporate Communion Mass, but cannot say the same for
the Joint Council Brunch as our number of attendees dropped mainly because it coincided with Father’s Day.
Our Special Lady Sister Lillian Jordan was the only representative from our council widows who attended as
most of the ladies had other family plans and prior arrangements.
Nevertheless those that attended had plenty to eat and had a good time. This event was also an opportunity for
all Grand Knights to inform all present the various functions of the council and also gave an opportunity to the
incoming Grand Knights to get over their initial fear of public speaking and address their brother knights.
We ended the day with the presentation of the trophies of the Joint Council Golf Tournament that is held
annually and saw a record number of members and guests taking part for the first time. Our Thanks to St.
Monica`s Council and St Joseph the Worker’s for putting on an excellent spread for Breakfast.

We once again hosted the travelling Icon Our Lady of Immaculate Conception that was in our midst travelling
from council to council before making its way back into the USA and then on to Mexico.
We held the Icon prayers on June 23rd at St Monica Church due to the request from the family of one of our
dearly departed Brother Carl Bowers. We had a good number of brothers and spouses that turned up for the
Icon Prayers and Veneration. Special Thanks to Bro Reynold Lobo for conducting the prayers and also to our
District Deputy #23 Ed Panes, Faithful Navigator SK Stan Leong, DGK Lorenzo Ranada, Past Grand Knights Philip
Barnwell and Edgar Ursua for leading us in the decades of the Rosary.
Following the Icon prayers, a prayer service was offered for deceased brother Carl Bowers, Charter GK Council 12861.

Once again this year on Wednesday June 18 we awarded bursaries to Grade 7 students of St Paul School along with our 4th Degree Assembly Faithful Navigator SK Stan Leong who also presented cheques to winners of the Essay Contest. The event was well organised by the school and was well represented by parents’ participation. We also presented a scholarship to graduating high school students and this year went down to the Chan Centre of Performing Arts to present a scholarship to the student of JN Burnett High School. The young recipient was very grateful to the Knights of Columbus for her scholarship and was keen to know more about our wonderful organisation.

We once again showed our support and gratitude to the Young Altar servers of the parish. Our young new
brothers Felix Tan and Raphael Teotico did an excellent job of coordinating and organising this annual event and
got a good number of altar servers to participate in the event.
We all met on Saturday June 21 and slowly but surely the kids started to trickle in. Bro Felix and Raphael were
on hand to welcome them along with the Altar Servers Coordinator Jim Munk. The kids were all settled down
and Bro Felix got them involved in games ably assisted by Bro Raphael. Lunch was being prepared and a big
Thank You to Bro Manny Tolentino, Raphael Teotico, DGK Bro Lorenzo Ranada, Sister Alma Nisperos and Julie
Ranada for their help in the kitchen.
The altar servers had a hearty lunch and gift cards were distributed to all wining contestants, Certificate of
Appreciation and year of service were handed out to all present. The event came to an end around 4 pm and all
the altar servers had a wonderful time.

Brothers please join me in congratulating Brother Reynold, Clera, Natasha, Nicole and Narada Lobo as being chosen as the Family of the Month for June 2014. Bro Reynold has been an active member of this council since he joined in 2008. He has been a Chancellor of this council for 2 years and has been the Recorder for our council for around 4 years. He is also actively involved in the 4th Degree and holds a similar position on their Assembly. He is there at our Pancake breakfast, Charity Appeal Drive, Pennies for Heaven, JC events and other Knights Dinner and Dances.
He along with Clera are active members of the Dancercize team, members of the 7.30 Choir and Adoration Chapel and great supporters of our Month of May and October Daily Rosary, to name a few.
Their daughters were Altar servers till recently and are members of the Saturday 5 pm choir. They are there to lend a helping hand at the Annual Children’s Christmas Party.
Congratulations and a Big Thank You Lobo Family for your help, devotion and support for the Knights of Columbus. May God continue to shower his blessings on your family.
Brothers please join me in congratulating Bro Jonathan D’cruz as being chosen as the Knight of the Month for June 2014. Bro Jonathan has just completed a year with our Council and has been helping out with our sports even before joining our organisation. He has been assisting Bro Manny Tolentino with Free Throw Challenge, Youth Basketball , Spring Break Basketball, just to name a few. He also made himself available during the convention with helping us with Audio Video and also attended a business session during the convention. He is a 3rd Degree member and is always on hand to help with ushering at Sunday Mass and helping with setup, serving and takedown at our monthly pancake breakfast, despite working full time and attending university.
We are grateful for the support these young brothers have shown and their eagerness and dedication to serve their Council. Thank you Bro Jonathan for your continued support and willingness to heed the call whenever needed. God Bless.
