GRAND KNIGHT’S MESSAGE

Brother Knights I have just returned from the 112th Annual Knights State Convention in Spokane, andwe were very well represented. DGK Mike Colosi, our District Deputy TomPursley and I were present. Our Council did very well on awards again this year.We took First Place for the Family Service Program for our Knights beforeChristmas program (Now called A Christmas Wish).Next is the internationalcompetition at the Supreme Convention in August. We also received a Bronzeplaque for being a very active Council and took First Place in Division 5 and FirstPlace overall for the Tootsie Roll Drive again this year. We have now won threeout of four years. I want to congratulate Ralph Marriott and Rob St Clair for doingan outstanding job coordinating last year’s drive. Pictures of the plaques are below.

This was a great convention for me and my last one as your Grand Knight. I want to thank everyone for theirsupport during my past two terms. We are stronger together (Unity) and together we can do more for others(Charity) and as we grow our Council, the Brotherhood will become stronger (Fraternity). As I step into myrole as your trustee and await my approval from our newly elected State Deputy Eddie Parazoo to becomeyour District Deputy, I will still be here to help support our new Council officers and will be a soundingboard between the State and our Council and the Councils in Centralia and Chehalis. Thank you and Godbless you my Brothers and your families!

I still have June to cover so as you read this we are only days away from our annual Vocations Auction onJune 6th. The prices this year are $30.00 per person or $50.00 per couple. The theme is “The VocationsBowl”, the Super Bowl of Auctions! Wear your favorite Super Bowl team’s attire and Hallen Hall will bedecorated in colors of many of the Super Bowl teams. The dinner will be a sit down tailgate style dinner withBBQ chicken, ribs, potato salad and all the BBQ fixins. More details are in the flyer included in thisnewsletter. Please come out for a fun night and help support vocations here in our community.

On June 13th everyone is invited to come to Sacred Heart’s Hallen Hall at 6pm to say good bye to Fr. Pat,Our Chaplain, who is leaving Sacred Heart. We all owe Fr. Pat our gratitude as he has been so supportive ofour Council and everything the Knights stand for and do. He will be missed by all. I need some volunteers tohelp making fruit trays and serving beverages. Other groups may be shorthanded as well, so please email meif you can help. On June 27th at St Michael Downtown they are having Mathew Kelly from 9am – 1:30pmwith his “Living Every Day with Passion and Purpose”. Fr. Jim has asked us to handle the hospitality for thisevent, so if you already have your ticket I could use your help beforehand with snacks and beverages. Wewill be seated in time for the presentation.

FAITHFUL NAVIGATOR’S MESSAGE

Dear Faithful Brother Knights

It will be a relatively quiet month of June before wekick off the summer. Wewill be electing newofficers at our JuneAssembly businessmeeting. Jim Pivec willbe retiring as our FaithfulPurser. Jim did a great jobover the last few yearsand I want to extend a bigThank You to him. Jimdoes a lot of other servicefor both the Council and

the Assembly, and I am lucky to be able to call him afriend. I really look forward to working with BillMcBride, who will be taking his place. He’s gotsome big shoes to fill but has lots of support aroundhim. Another tireless worker and volunteer who willbe retiring from our Assembly officers is FredWeisdepp. He has continued to volunteer frequently, despite having a lot of pain from an injured back. The world could use more people with Fred’spositive outlook and enthusiasm. We will bewelcoming Daniel Miller as our new Faithful InnerSentinel. The final position which will be turnedover is that of the Faithful Outer Sentinel, held bySean Johnson. Sean has graciously agreed to stepaside, to allow another new 4th degree brother, whois eager to serve, to take his place. Even thoughSean has young children at home and his wife iscurrently expecting, he still volunteers to helpfrequently. Sean misses more meetings than mostofficers because either his job has him travelling out

of town or he is coaching kid’s baseball. He steppedup to be an officer because he was asked to. Sean isalso very active in our Squires. I want to telleveryone how much I appreciate and respect Seanfor his service. I know that he will be there again toaccept a position when asked. We look forward toworking with Sean’s replacement, Randy Kinsey, who is also an energetic and enthusiastic volunteer.

The rest of your assembly officers will remain thesame. I am humbled by, and thankful for being ableto work with such a capable and gracious group ofCatholic men. I will list them here: Jack Winslow,Faithful Captain, Phil Kelley, Faithful Comptroller,Archpriest Lawrence Gosselin, Faithful Friar, MikeColosi, Faithful Admiral, Bill Safford, Faithful Pilot,Corb Thornton, Faithful Scribe, and finally, ourTrustees are Sam Pellegrino, Ron DeGroot, andMike Mallinger.

So as we start a new year, we will be focusing onnew membership and re-engaging our currentmembership who haven’t participated in a while. Please support our important fundraisers, such as theAuction on June 6th and our Cowboy BBQ inSeptember. Details to follow. Our next businessmeeting will be Thursday, June 25th. And our nextCorporate Communion will be Thursday, July 23rd atColumbian Hall.

Pax Domini Sit Semper Vobiscum,

ST. JOHN PAUL II IN AMERICA DOCUMENTARY

April 2 marked the 10 year anniversary of the deathof St. John Paul II. Prior to his death, the Knights ofColumbus was blessed to have collaborated with St.John Paul II on many important initiatives andprojects ranging from evangelization andcommunications to the defense of the family andreligious freedom. One of the most important goals ofSt. John Paul II was to foster unity across theAmerican continent. That hopeful vision has becomeour own as Brother Knights. The Supreme Council istherefore pleased to announce the release of a newdocumentary film celebrating St. John Paul II and hisimpact on the American continent.

John Paul II in America: Uniting a Continentexplores how the papacy of St. John Paul II left anindelible mark on the American continent. Driven byhis singular conviction of a “United AmericanContinent” under the patronage of Our Lady ofGuadalupe, John Paul II’s papal travels fromArgentina to Alaska that generated massive crowds,

shaped an entire generation and ultimately changedthe course of history. Narrated by actor Andy Garcia, the film features rare archival footage and insightfulanalysis from leading figures including Cardinal SeánP. O’Malley of Boston, Supreme Knight Carl A.Anderson, John Paul II biographer George Weigeland former Vatican spokesman Joaquín Navarro-Valls. Viewers will be both intrigued and moved bythe documentary’s unprecedented framework forunderstanding one of the giant figures of our times.

This film airs this month on national televisionnetworks as well as EWTN, CatholicTV and Salt +Light TV in Canada. For more information about thefilm, including broadcast times and how you canpurchase a DVD, please visit kofc.org/jpiifilm

Our council has ordered a copy of this DVD and weplan to have a “movie night” event sometime in thenear future when we will show this documentary.
